  1. I used the Ambassaduer 4600 c for three decades.Bought them in the late 70s . Finally had to retire them. They served me well.
  2. I like a six foot rod for top water fishing. Walking the dog , to me , is much easier on a short rod .
  3. You dont think line visibility is a factor in bass fishing ?
  4. I received my Jelly Worms from Amazon. The Tequila Green and Pumpkinseed Chartreuse are fine. The 100 pack of Scuppernong are not. They are not brown they are dull red and they are hard. A lot harder than Jelly Worms are suppose to be . They are unusable. Im glad they were only three dollars. Lesson learned. I guess I could boil them to soften them up but I think Ill just throw them away. I dont know how they got so hard . I have thirty year old jelly Worms that are still as soft as the day I bought them. On the bright side the sanrenmu 7010 pocket knife I also ordered is amazing for an 11 dollar knife .
  5. Id try the spinnerbait rod . And you could try substituting other lures for deep cranks. I dont use deep cranking much because you have to use huge lures. Most of the time I prefer using a sinking lure like a Rocket Shad , Rattle Trap, Little George , Gay Blade ...
  6. Bringing up this old thread. I dont know how a basses brain works . I have used Doug Hannons trick and will in the future. Not all the time but in clear water with slow moving baits like Texas rigs,it appears to have worked . On Table Rock I saw a bass under a dock. I flipped a Salt Craw to it on light spinning gear , probably 6 to 8 lb test , repeatedly and the fish ignored it. I then used a black marker and colored the line in about two inch alternating strips for a couple of feet breaking up the solid visual . Flipped it back in and the bass did not hesitate in taking it. I dont know why it took the bait this time ,it could have been the break up pattern of the line . With that lesson , I have bought some Triple Fish Fluorescent but did not like the line properties. Id sure like to see some Trilene xl in a cammo pattern. Markers wear off after a few cast .
  7. I cancelled Bassmaster. It is laid out like a maxum magazine these days. Short articles for short attention spans .
  8. Can a bass detect quiet lures in muddy water? Yes. I can remember one time in particular that I was slaying white bass and an occasional largemouth, 15 foot deep on small CC jigging spoons. The water was so muddy that there was zero visibility at that depth .
  9. I dont use deep diving crankbaits, jigging spoons , little George's ... when wade fishing a small river but do in boats. I'm also limited in how much tackle I can take when wading, so the selections are different than when fishing from a boat ..
  10. Are you fishing from bank or wading or are you fishing from boat ? My selection for wade fishing is different than from a boat.
  11. If no boats allowed then how do you know the known bass locations ?
  12. . While snorkeling in a clear river /creek that has a lot of people swimming in it , Id tap my fingernail against my watch or tap two rocks together and bass "Always" came to investigate . So rattles on jigs may well get more attention. Crankbait hooks and split rings make noise without rattles.
  13. Im a penny pincher. I rarely purchase fishing gear thats not marked down. I have to want something pretty bad to pay full price. I hunt flea markets and second hand stores for my favorite crankbaits. I do replace the hooks with expensive ones but those old Big Jims outproduce Rc and KVD cranks in side by side comparisons that I have done in the past three years. I have quality rod and reels that I have picked up cheap . I have a plastic Bass Baby boat, a canoe , access to kayaks and john boats any time I want. My wife wanted a pontoon , so I got rid of the Bass boat and picked up a used 22 foot Lowe Deck boat with a semi v hull . I can do anything in that boat including bass fishing. I put an 80 lb thrust trolling motor on it and two new depth finders. It fishes a lot better than I thought. I havent done tournaments for years and enjoy fishing much more. You dont have to spend a lot to enjoy this sport. Heres the only pic I have of the used Lowe deck boat I bought .
  14. I use to ice fish ponds and experienced the same thing. Maybe its a visibility thing .
  15. Those two humps right next to the two depressions. I wonder if they are manmade ?
  16. I find bed fishing challenging. More times than not I dont catch the fish. They will spawn on top of stumps in a nearby lake. Sometimes I will spot the wakes as they chase away smaller fish. I never have caught one of those fish.
  17. The flats to the north of the deepest water and a point with humps like Toad pointed out . Thats an interesting area . Likely gets fished to death , though. Edited: All the indention's of the purple/ blue areas are high points that Id try .
  18. So , the Elaztec is a lot lighter than half a Senko ?
  19. In my experience it can make a huge difference at times.
  20. Its hard to see, bet it would be good for finicky fish .
  21. I dont think fishing for spawning bass hurts a bit , but Ive been wrong before. A lake will only hold so many adult bass, An astronomical number of fry are hatched each year. I doubt anglers fishing for spawning bass will effect the number of fry reaching several inches. Thats Mother Natures way of assuring a healthy population. What is much more important is natural events that can have great impact on a years spawn , like floods . One of my most memorable days of fishing ever , I was targeting schools of fry with a jelly worm and catching 2 to 3 lb bass all day.
  22. A lake I frequent is really tough now days. 25 years ago it was a fantastic fishery. A lot of days I start fishing at the thermocline , which is usually around 20 foot , and work my way shallower. Some days I can pick up a few fish at the line where chunk rock turns into smaller rocks.
  23. Mudbug is my preferred Crankbait very early, when the water is still cold around 40 degrees but the sun is warming it up in the afternoon. . We reel them as slow as we can along steep banks and catch some real cows .

How well do they work ? If you dye something like a pumpkin seed or watermelon seed worm tail chartreuse with Spike-IT does it turn bright chartreuse or does it just change a little ?
  25. I use to have one of those , I never did use it and sold it in a yard sale .
