  1. Mine wasnt as big as that monster maybe 2/3. Its hard to speculate . I got a good look at several times. I caught two years ago about 35 inches and weighed around 8 lbs. They were long and skinny. This fish was a lot bigger. I have a large net that I bought after hooking a big sturgeon two years ago . I was on a steep bank and could not land that fish either. I'm going to start taking it . Just didnt think I needed it for bass fishing.
  2. It was hanging in chest deep water . The fish cleaning station is built on a small dock.
  3. Thats what happened. One bass missing the other ripped to shreds . Never seen an otter herebut they are arund . Dont think it was a turtle. I'm thinking muskie or catfish . One of my fillets have teeth marks that makes me think not a catfish.
  4. I'm an old fart and had a younger angler stop and talk to me last week while fishing . Fishing is tough he said. Bass are deep, the weather has them shut down. I agreed. Didnt have the heart to tell him the fish were biting good two foot deep.
  5. That always bothers me but I get over it.
  6. In the past two weeks I have caught app. 150 bass on a Texas Rigged Dinger with 1/4 oz weight and 3.0 gamakatsu hook . Then there was the giant musky hooked yesterday on the same rig .I'm not even fishing other worms at the moment . These things get bit.
  7. Heres something . Last week I had a limit of bass under the slot 10 to 12 inch fish . I secured them with a cheap chain stringer near the fish cleaning station while I unloaded my gear to the truck . When I went to fillet the fish one stringer hook was open and the fish gone and another bass was just a head and backbone , it had been filleted. I wondered what did that , now I know.
  8. Like I say , I have no idea how to guesstimate the weight. I was more impressed with its girth than its length. I just looked . The Missouri state record is 41 lbs. I might have had it.
  9. A nearby lake has been stocked with musky and yesterday I hooked into one while bass fishing . Pitched a Yum dinger to a laydown and it bit . This fish was huge. I dont have a good guess how much it weighed. I actually wore it down and had it boatside but had no way of landing it. I took some lip grippers and clamped it to its lower jaw and it surged . The hook came out and it was gone . Then I noticed the blood dripping from my hand. It got me . Bass thumb is cute , musky hand is the real deal . I'm guessing this was a minimum 30 lber possibly 60 . I dont know, never caught one like that. On a side note The Piscifun Phantom performed phenomenally.
  10. Blue is a great color but has fallen out of favor . I use to buy blue jelly worms in 100 packs
  11. I had success on many different worms.
  12. I had several back in the day . They were decent baits . There were a long bill's and squarebill's. Sometimes there would be one that did not wiggle , strange .No matter what I'd do it just would not tune.
  13. I've had a few packs but currently go through Dingers by the dozens . I think they are the best wood pitching baits I have used. I rig them with a 1/4 or 5/16th oz weight , so the slow wiggle of a weightless senko is not what I'm after.
  14. Fishing yesterday and there was an 18 ft thermocline but the shad were balled up around 10 to 12 ft. I caught a few at 10 ft. to 12 ft.
  15. I had a couple with monofilament weedguards molded in . They worked great in the spring , equipped with a pork chunk and allowed to helicopter down through brush . Havent used one for many years .
  16. ! foot is not much of a rise. On small lakes with a 1 foot rise , I just fish them like before .
  17. Big bass have a way of getting off. I have lost more than my share. Maybe I'm cursed.
  18. Frog fishing is the most frustrating for me. I set the hook either too fast or too slow. I dont have any pointers except tighten the drag all the way and keep on keepin on.
  19. I've changed the line on my pitchin rod at least three times this year. My other reels , I dont think I changed them out yet . Just depends on the wear and tear and how low it gets from retying.
  20. I like the point at the mouth of the little cove on the east side. Right above the 415 scale.
  21. When it come to finesse jig fishing "Neds" nothing is taboo. A half lizard lying on the bottom of the boat will score.
  22. June Bug is my favorite . I like to run a chartreuse spike it marker down the back of a june bug worm. It gives it a two tone color. Dont know if it catches more fish but it works well when pitching to shallow wood. Caught about 50 bass today that way.
  23. I like to toss sunfish patterned spinnerbaits over submerged weeds.
