What are your top three fluorocarbon lines and the worst?
I use Yozuri top knot exclusively. It’s a bit thinner than other Fluro’s, just as strong, and even less expensive.

Loomis warranty on guides
I’ve recently had guide issues with an NRX and IMX rods. The insert came out and I had to expoxy the insert back-in. I had to have a guide replaced on another NRX rod because one of the guide foots came out of the thread wrap. Instead of sending it in and having to wait for a Loomis repair, I had the guide repaired locally.

Need some clarity on plastics(s) color
I would add one other thought. Bass see 4 times better than humans. So, you drop your bait in the water slowly and get an idea how deep you can see it, multiply that by 4 and that’s the distance a bass can see it.

square bill
Crankbaits are designed to be running and digging into the bottom. This action is designed to trigger a strike. Squarebills are designed with a wide wobble, run shallower, and are designed to entice suspended fish. It is true that cover enhances their production, but don’t think they cannot catch suspended bass in deeper water. I fished a tournament this last weekend and four of my keepers came on a Squarebill in 20 feet of water.

How do I make a practice plug?
I would suggest using a tube bait Texas rigged with a bell sinker do the desired weight, usually 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2. By the way, I insert the bell sinker inside the tube bait

Favorite squarebill and why?!
What I think I important with ny crank bait is consistency. I find that for a square bill the Rapala BX Brat and Fat Brat work well. I also love their DT series for crankbaits.

Soft plastics storage boxes
On my boat I keep them in the original package and then put “like baits” in a ziplock bag labeled with the type (stickbaits, craws, finesse, et.). What I started to appreciate was that I was carrying way more plastic baits than I needed. Keeping the freezer bag to a gallon size for each type of bait helped me be more disciplined.

Crankbait line - Yo-zuri Ultrasoft vs. Sunline Defier Armilo
I would suggest you abandon mono all together. I would go with fluro and I’m personally impressed and have used Yozuri topknot fluro.

M/MF or MH/MF for Squarebills?
IMO the key is to use a moderate action. Then, on small square bills use a medium weight and heavier ones MH. Think about it. I use #10lb fluro on my squarebills, you want a rod that is a little forgiving when you set the hook.

Simple backing question
I would suggest that you get the least expensive 10# mono you can find in a high visibility color. That way as you repeatedly re-tie you can get an idea how much regular line you have left givinhpg you an indication on whe you have to re-spool. I find that 12# has more memory and is a bit harder to work with. in addition, I take a sharpie and make a mark on the inside of the spool indicating the level of backing I want to put on. My goal is to spool between 80-100 yds of my main line over the backing material.

Line backing on a baitcaster
For me 10# mono works the best. I find that anything bigger gets to bulky. You only need 80-100yds of line tied to the backing. I take a sharply and make a mark on the inside of the spool about halfway up and spool the backing to that mark. That way I’m consistent when I respool. One 200 yd spool of FC will then respool two reels.

Do you use fish attractant?
I use attractant and I believe that it certainly doesn’t hurt, and many times help, especially if the fish have been under heavy pressure. I am concerned about it washing off so I usually use a gel preparation. The one exception is when I fish a Paca craw, I have small pieces of dyed foam rubber that I soak in liquid scent, and then insert it inside the hollow front of the bait. In this case it adds scent as well as makes the front of the bait float like a craw in the defensive position. ihave my opinion on which scent I like, but I’m sure everyone here has their favorite and see no need to get adicussion on which scent is better. I will share with you that an old fisherman who I had a lot of respect for and was an outstanding fisherman believed in using preparation H. He shared with me that at that time it had shark oil in it. Honestly, I never developed either the smarts or the guts to use it. Didn’t want others to see it in my tackle box LOL. Research has shown that the only smell/taste that turns off bass id Deet in insect repellant. The oils on our hands has no effect so there should be no need to use a scent to mask the fisherman’s

Moving to Kansas City - Best areas to live
I lived in Omaha for forty years. Before miving to the KC area after retiring? I was in healthcare. Sounds like you’re graduating from medical school either UNMC or Creighto n and have to take call at KUMC. Overland Parkarea is very nice, but pricey, But if you have to live that close that might be your best option.

Best mono as leader
IMO you get what you pay for. There are very good inexpensive fluro line ps out there. For me, the best is Yozuri top knot. For me, it has little memory, and you can get a spool on sale for around $10.00. i use two different knots with fluro and I’ve not had a knot problem. I use the fish n fool and polymer knot. Please remember that mono can have memory problems as well.
