  1. sorry never been there, but did fish some of those farm ponds you speak of up around Elkin... one of my buddy's family is from the area and when i lived in charlotte we took a trip up there and hit up 3 ponds he had access to and man they were really nice! wish i had access to some places like that around here! much luck tomorrow!
  2. nice fish, but i'd have been trying to catch the loch ness monster over your shoulder!!!!
  3. i'll fish in the snow, the rain, the cold, but the wind just sucks in a kayak man..... nothing good about it!
  4. good lord man, that's one stout looking fish!!!!
  5. i get what you're saying, but i can't logically think of another way you'd do this under those "normal fishing conditions" when there is no such thing as normal fishing conditions. it's much like the miles per gallon rating in the window of a new vehicle. they didn't test every single possible way the car would be driven, on every road, with every driver, with every tire, with rain/snow/wind, etc etc etc. they took a controlled study and put every vehicle on the same playing field, same as frydog's study. i think he's about as close as one can get to answering the op's questions about stretch with his experiment.
  6. as infrequently as i actually use the thing, i might have to go that route and save the $ for some more tackle! thanks for the info guys. nice review on the gear as always Goose!
  7. hope my wife never finds out about this 5lb bag of popcorn..... those crumbs will be all over my house! somehow only like 75% of popcorn pieces actually make it in her mouth, the rest are in the couch cushions or on the floor! i'll keep an eye on that scale though
  8. that sucks raider, hope he makes a full recovery!
  9. LOL, one day they'll develop some crazy immunity gene and we'll be treating herpes with carp......
  10. i'm the opposite of bare minimum.... would be easier to list what i leave at home vs take with
  11. bait during normal production = OK, catches fish discontinued bait = best thing ever, hard to find, super rare, CRAZY money on the resale market!!!
  12. Lake Fork Guy has a video of him fishing the Jackall Pompadeur in a pond and they miss it, he throws back, they hit it! I'm with you in that it basically never works for me, but sure enough worked for him in that one video, much to my surprise! i'm with jfrancho in that a senko is the usual for a hardbait miss... but if i'm already pitching a jig/worm/craw, i throw the same bait right back at them.
  13. So i lost my scale last Saturday like a moron, fell out of my kayak somewhere on the way back from the lake in the back of the truck.... That said, only options locally are the run of the mill Rapala/Berkley scales which i'm sure will work fine (in fact the one i lost was a Berkley and worked just fine), but price on the decent looking ones and the AccuCull seem somewhat negligible... The AccuCull seems highly rated as well. So should i go ahead and pony up the $35 for one or is there a better/equally effective option for cheaper? Thanks!
  14. i hear ya.... and agreed with you! oddly enough, FryDog does his samples like the "pros" do over on TT.... with controlled variables (the way most legitimate "scientific" studies would be done) http://www.tackletour.com/reviewfluorocarbon2.html
  15. i'd say that given what he laid out, it's pretty darn accurate, but as he said, he's no scientist. he took the controlled variables that were available to him and published his findings, which answer exactly what the OP had asked. i agree that it might not compare to a hookset, but i'd also argue that my hookset doesn't compare to yours and vice versa.... my equipment, drag, hook, etc. don't compare exactly to yours and so on and so on.
  16. that's one sweet ride there Josh!
  17. say hello to 90% of my tackle.... LOL
  18. Cranky old man says, "Hello!" ... for a minute there i thought my dad may have joined the forum!!! welcome old timer, hope you're enjoying retirement thus far!
