it's a perfect time to be learning plastics around here, seems for the last 2-3 weeks that it's all the fish have wanted!

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
clayton's baits don't catch fish.... i'm pretty sure they're all caught by @gardnerjigman and then clayton just poses for the pics!! i kid, i kid.... blue makes some really nice stuff... i especially like the skirt color on the silver-ish looking bladed jig there Kyle!

Jig Color
A LOT of states publish the crawfish species online like at the DNR site or colleges or something.... check them out and you'll be surprised how many different colors those things are throughout the year! that said, black anything does catch them year round. i like a greenish/blue and a pb&j type color to imitate craws and bluegill year round. can't go wrong there.

Happy Senko de Mayo (May 5)
go to lowe's and ask for 3/8" heat shrink tubing from the electrical aisle.... cut it into a small strip and it slides right over the senko, you don't necessarily even need to heat it up and shrink it. run the hook through the tube and the worm and it will prolong the life of the senko like you wouldn't believe! far better than the o ring method because this has your hook perpendicular to the bait rather than parallel, much better hookups. here's a link to a killer explanation from BR member @Wayne P. http://www.bigindianabass.com/big_indiana_bass/a-better-wacky-rigging-method.html might help the OP slow down on burning through that bulk pack too!

Kayak accessories
i haven't tried that Dave... i actually got the silent traction kit and used it and works great.... BUT even the 3M super duper spray adhesive stuff will come off after long exposure to water, at least that's been my experience with it.

kayak recommendation
i can walk from the front hatch to the back compartment on my ride 135 it's so stable.... HEAVY but stable!

Kayak rod holders
i have all of my rods over on my left side because i do like 80-90% of my casting on the right side, a long time ago i caught one in a backcast on my right side and sent it overboard.... so i'd kind of agree with J that right behind the seat would be best. maybe go a little DIY and come up with some super cool solution to mount something to that "bar" right behind the seat?

The pond was on fire last night!
My wife was working out of town last night, so i went to chase some girls.... at the pond!! This little honey hole has been good to me lately, but last night it was on fire! I fished from about 6:30-9 last night and caught 10 fish and lost 2. The last cast was a tank too, somewhere between 3.5 and 4lbs. It was right at dark and she didn't really "hit" the bait, more or less just inhaled it and started peeling off to the side. All except for 1 fish were caught on the 5" wacky senko which has been the bait of choice out here the last few trips. The 1 loner was on a keitech swing impact and 1/8oz weighted hook, caught on the new to me Adrena from @Grantman83 Funny thing is the bait was really too light for this rod, but i tried anyways. i had an errant cast that sent the line over a tree limb and a little overrun on the reel. once i got the reel straightened out, i looked at the line and sure enough, it was swimming away from the tree limb, set the hook and fish on! I love her to death, but sometimes it's nice when the wife is gone!

Short spinning rods for kids
the ones i saw were at gander mtn, if they'd had a 2 piece in 5'6" i'd have bought one for myself for trout fishing.... for a kid, i wouldn't hesitate on grabbing one. they seem very well made for the price and had a nice feel to them in my opinion. when my older nephew gets proficient with casting his spincaster and moves up to the spinning rod, i'll probably grab one of them for him to be honest. and even though they don't want to hear it on here, that company has stellar customer service should anything go wrong...

Short spinning rods for kids
dude, those ambition rods are pretty good if that's the one you're referring to.... i almost picked one up, but they didn't have the exact length i wanted.

Braid for spinning gear
yeah i think 15# is good for the spinning reel for most or all techniques that you'd want to use the spinning rig for

Looking for a new set-up
honestly i think for $250 you can have the best of both worlds! 2 Pflueger Presidents at about $60 each (excellent reels) 1 Berkley lightning shock spinning rod at roughly $40 (underrated rod, but worth every penny IMO) 1 Dobyns Fury spinning rod at $110 (well balanced, versatile, nice rods) now i know, math puts all that at above $250 it's $270 to be exact. BUT i listed the full MSRP of those items. if you shop around and/or wait for memorial day sales, you'll get all that under your $250 budget. just what i'd do if it were me.... or you could just go with the fury and 1 president and have some dead presidents left over to buy tackle with!
