  1. questions for you: 1. what kind of bait are you using? a nose hooked roboworm is my go-to 2. are you using a "normal" drop shot hook or the spinning type with swivels (i prefer the "normal hooks myself) 3. how long of a tag end do you have from the hook to the weight? < may be especially important if fishing from the bank
  2. i'd be stoked to get a box full of pie/cookies!!! i'd then take you up on the fishing trip in hopes you'd bring more pie and cookies!!!
  3. trust me, it's no easy endeavor here... it's why i was pretty stoked to find this one. Security guard for this place went by last night and gave me a nice friendly wave so i was even happier about that! granted there's no signs that say no fishing or no trespassing, but you never know! i just laughed to the point of a snort on that one.... "urban sea hag"
  4. Failed to mention that the new rod was the Phenix Recon 683 ML casting rod. Have the curado 51e on there with a new yumeya bfs spool with 8# yozuri hybrid. Handled the wacky rig and the fish like a boss!
  5. BINGO.... This is my finesse lineup, no problem for 1/8oz jigs:
  6. no matter what you use, the tension on the line really does help to make it a clean "one and done" cut. that said, the boomerangs work great. i also won some pliers that have a cutter on them that are awesome, but don't remember the brand. My wife gets some fancy fiskars scissors at work that i use around the house and they work well too. Tension is the key though. I usually put the tag in between my teeth and just get it taut and then cut.
  7. Went to a new pond last night, well i had gone once before for about an hour, but didn't catch that day. Had 3 rods with me with a spinnerbait, jig and wacky rigged senko. My intent was to catch a fish on each and i nailed it! 2 on the wacky rig, 1 jig fish and 1 spinnerbait fish (a 3rd wacky fish jumped off right at the bank). The jig was a @cadman head with a homemade skirt i tied up and a yamamoto craw which the fish nailed on the drop. Spinnerbait was a war eagle with a homemade skirt and the deadly keitech swing impact for the trailer with a little JJs magic dip on the tail. Really nice little pond with some decent cover and a big fountain in the middle of it so i think i'll be back But next time, i'm taking some bug spray with me, they nearly carried me off last night!
  8. i wasted no time Goose! Slimed up indeed. caught 2 nice little guys on the wacky senko last night, and a 3rd one jumped off right at the bank.
  9. i just got the rod. It's a Phenix Recon 2 683c. It's a ML casting rod. I have it spooled up with 8# yozuri hybrid right now. I like it so far!
  10. I hear ya man, but even the top companies are very likely to just mail you said tip or guide and tell you to fix it yourself or locally due to shipping costs and potential for damage during shipping. I could see the reel seat or nut or something being an issue after a year for sure. I was mostly referring to the blank like you said. Trust me, I'd still be upset though either way!! $250 ain't chump change!
  11. if a rod is defective you're going to find out in the first year.... the artificial lifetime warranty thing drives up the cost of the rods for people like me who use them properly yet allows people who abuse their gear to claim it was a warranty issue. i've had 2 rods break on me within the first 3 days of use and those were warranty issues, after a dozen times of fishing a rod if it hasn't broken, i feel mostly confident it never will. 4 inch weightless senkos? if so, that's about 7 or 8 grams with the worm and hook. so right at 1/4 oz which it handles quite well. if you're fishing it wacky with hook exposed no problem, if you're fishing it "texas style" with the hook in the worm i still think it would work.
  12. Phenix Recon 2 683C Yumeya BFS MG 32MM Spool for the curado 51e
  13. Mail lady was good to me yesterday! Got my Recon 2 683c I got from the auction site (mint condition). Then i got my used, but mint, Yumeya BFS MG 32MM spool for the Curado 51e. My new finesse casting rig! Yard casts were very nice! (sorry to Goose, no fish slime yet!)
  14. an honest thank you, sincere as you can be. then tell him you're dead set on letting him know just how thankful you are and tell him you'll pick him up and drop him off for a day out on the boat. while he's on the boat, feed him some lunch and make his day. if he's got a kid, offer to take the kid. i'd agree that he's likely not going to accept the money, but might accept a gift card or a dinner or something like that.
  15. can't go wrong with the war eagle spinnerbaits! the finesse war eagles are great in the ponds around here. i do like the terminator t1 but they are crazy expensive. i found some a while back on sale for $5 and bought everyone in the store....
  16. i'm not very familiar with the cuda, but have paddled a coosa before and could put the rods in the hatch into the hull. is that an option on the cuda? It's how i transport them with my ride 135 if fishing with a partner, otherwise they go in the cab of the truck.
  17. i have a dobyns champion 682c and really love the rod. It handles well, has a nice tip to help with the casting and enough power for topwater/jerkbaits which is what i bought it for. have also used it for some shakyheads and worked well for that. i was not a fan of the avid (have not used an avid x, but they felt much better than the original). i felt it was tip heavy and overpowered (mine was a MH that felt like a strong H to me)
  18. my mom was in a near death car accident when i was about 13 and was airlifted from franklin, nc to asheville, nc... my dad was driving my brother and i over and was hauling.... a state trooper friend of ours had put out the word that we were headed to the hospital and not to pull him over so he was doing about 90 MPH the whole way there. along the way a car was just puttering along in the left lane and then started taunting my dad as he would try to pass them in the right lane. he managed to get beside them and they were laughing and gave him the middle finger, which usually sets my dad off anyways! about that time he pulled out the S&W 357 with the 6 inch barrel and rolled down the window and didn't point it at the car, but up in the air. they locked down the brakes and went from about 55MPH to nearly 0MPH instantly!!! we went on to the hospital!
  19. there's a guide from douglasville that catches some hogs on swimbaits in the local reservoirs. used to be on this site, but i don't think he's active anymore. Randall, don't remember his last name... http://www.wmi.org/bassfish/bassboard/fishing_tactics/message.html?message_id=318025
  20. one look at those tails in the OP's pics or your fish tells you all you need to know about them putting up a fight.... those big wide tails turn them into torpedoes!! those LKN spots are mean little fish for sure!
  21. ^^ this guy doesn't catch anything worth following just tiny little dinks
  22. i'll be down there the 2nd or 3rd week in May and I'm stoked! My boss is killing me right now with pics of blackfin tuna from down there....
  23. not the cx, but i used the cxx for swimbaits back in the day (20lb) and it is very strong line, good for what i used it for. but it did have some memory to it, that's for sure.
  24. can't take it with you when you go.... or as my granddad always said "you never see a uhaul behind a hearse"
