  1. I'd probably agree that my other Dobyns feel just a touch lighter than other rods with similar specs.... that said, this rod feel fairly true to the ML rating to my uneducated hands.... I might just have to give it a go and see if it works for me. I much prefer fishing the jigs on my casting rods, but sometimes the need to skip it on up under some gnarly brush or docks comes into play and a spinning rod is where i feel most comfortable for that. may just be the wrong tool for that job though!
  2. yep, get you some 6 or 8 lb test line and spool it from the bottom as Mike said.... your problems will be solved.
  3. Noneya Springs????
  4. well that's a mean looking hook too, but this is the one i was talking about.... Siebert makes some with this hook and once you hook the fish, they just aren't coming off this hook:
  5. WHOA!! that puts my little mahi to shame! Here's a nice little mess from the last trip to the keys..... Always better when you catch more than your loud mouth boss too!! I'll be back there in Mid-May to go round 3!!!
  6. nice going! that's a nice one!
  7. i've done both and frankly neither one are perfect. whoever comes up with that magical 3rd option is going to make some dough!
  8. Big Heels fan here my man, and boy if they haven't wrote the book on starting out slow this season!! Thank god there's 2 halves in the ball game or they'd have been watching from the couch by now!
  9. those are some VERY nice fish there Turtle!! That owner deep throat hook is legit, my favorite jig hook, period!!
  10. Recently acquired this rod and my intent is using as a wacky worm rod, BUT I was wondering if anyone has tried fishing any lighter wire jigs with this rod? Thinking something like a 3/16 or 1/4 jig plus small trailer.... Would that be a little much for this rod? Would the Med Light be enough to get a good hookset with the jigs? I'll be fishing with either 10 or 15lb braid so that might offset the lighter power a little bit i'm thinking. This does not have to be a jig rod for me, just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with this particular model and lighter wire jigs? Thanks!
  11. i know he doesn't mean to.... he really loves me, i know it. come to think of it, it's my fault. i shouldn't have been on ebay in the first place....
  12. 12# big game on the casting setup. toss whatever you want on that unit. 6# or 8# copoly on the spinning rig and toss anything up to about 1/2 oz on that. i fish a few different ponds around the area and those 2 setups will work for everything i'm throwing.
  13. RAM mount with a transducer arm on my kayak. I imagine something similar would work pretty well on your pond boat. you can always do the DIY route too.
  14. i always have a jig rigged up, always. Most of the year i also have the t rig, but when the water is at its coldest i usually opt for just the jig over the T rig.
  15. yep, it's almost just a reel set for me with these smaller hooks. also helped me a ton when i picked up a Powell Inferno Light action rod. That light action helps me with the hook sets on the ned rig.
  16. No joke, you see who started this whole freakin' thread don't you???? He's like the counselor of the NA or AA meeting that also deals out of his trunk in the parking lot when the meeting is over!
  17. you'll be just fine. those technique specific rods will work for much more than what is listed on the rod.
  18. whichever color is on sale!! i really do like the green pumpkin magic though for most situations and i like straight black for the ultra stained water.
  19. there's a black cavitron with a red blade hanging from a tree in a pond near my house..... i'm the moron that put it there and have not been able to retrieve it.... still haven't brought myself to replace it because i keep lying to myself and saying i will get it back eventually!
  20. really nice fish there man!
  21. that's been my problem too!
  22. nice job on that piglet!!!
  23. I laughed when i noticed that T shirt! nice fishing too man.
  24. man that looks like a killer spot! i love fishing with my brother, he's a trip. makes for some of the best memories!
