  1. i'd go dobyns champion rods myself, trying to add more to my rotation right now. otherwise, st croix is hard to beat, just buy them 1 power less than you think you need since they're all a little heavier than advertised from my experience.
  2. somewhat worthy? that's a beauty!
  3. i fish from a yak too, have a lowrance 4x HDI. not top of the line by any means, but it works. that said, i barely if ever use the DI but rather stick with the sonar. if i could do it over again, i'd buy one with GPS so that i could drop some waypoints, but wouldn't care about the DI one bit.
  4. you'll be happy you didn't get the DI version i think.... i barely if ever use it on mine, just stick with sonar. BUT now SI, that's probably a different story. i have ZERO experience with the side image.
  5. i have a 4x HDI and if i could do it over again, i would... i'd opt for one with GPS over the DI... granted i know where i'm at and going for the most part, but the ability to drop some waypoints would FAR outweigh the DI for me. i actually barely IF EVER run the DI on mine now, just the sonar. no input on the dragonfly, but they look really slick.
  6. kinda what i was thinking.... my choice between those two, i'm taking the one that doesn't talk back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. i was looking forward to brock taking some snaps.... he showed a lot of poise when he was in the games this past season... i would have been happy taking him through the playoffs myself! hope John knows I don't understand he's doing as far as finding the next QB.... that defense can only carry us so far with no offense.
  8. my wife has been wanting to try it and i just sent her your message and i'm sure it will push her over the edge.... we have no kids either so should be a good option to "spice things up"
  9. good luck RW, this weather is just beyond crazy!
  10. 1/8 oz panther martin spinner black with yellow dots and gold blade... can find them at walmart or anywhere for that matter. Will catch about any fish in any water from my experience...
  11. great buy on the villain, if they had the spinning models at that price, i'd have already bought one....
  12. no, he's saying a ML would be the only compromise if you weren't going to have 2 separate rods. and i agree 100%. another thing to mention is where i fish for trout, it's VERY tight quarters. anything over 5'6" is a no go for casting in a lot of my spots. my trout rod now is a 5' UL and my lightest bass rod is a 6'6" L I use for dropshotting/ned rig.
  13. X2 on the X2! Camden was verrrrrrrry helpful to a newb!
  14. for both bass and trout, i'd be looking at a ML or maybe M, but no more than M.
  15. between those 2, villian.... abu has good customer service as well. go on gandermountain's website and look, they have some models marked down to $89 AND you get a $30 gift card!
  16. the 300e's are awesome reels, but like you said a little pricey and can be tough to find (if you're a lefty, i kinda regret selling mine some days! once upon a time i had a cardiff as well and it worked just fine for throwing the big baits.
  17. see i agree somewhat with this in that fishing is too unstable, not to mention none of us really "practice" fishing, we just fish. in fishing, practicing and doing are more or less the same. on the other hand, i disagree that in a stable environment you can "study up to become the best". 10,000 hours or 10 million hours won't make me as tall or naturally gifted as a Lebron James for instance.
  18. i would opt for green pumpkin from confidence, but junebug would work just about as well for me too.... who knows, catch rate might improve for some with only 1 bait.... less time changing lures, more time with the lure in the water!
  19. you mean like Detroit or something along those lines?
  20. ^^here's your answer they're all the best bait, on that day, at that time. if there were a definitive answer to your question, there would be 98% less posts on the tackle forum.
  21. welcome from middle-ish/north-ish GA!
  22. nice catching!
  23. the 10,000 hours thing is a myth..... if it were true, i would be a master sleeper, but instead i am a horrid sleeper!
  24. having had a canoe my entire childhood and having fished from a kayak for the last 5 years, THEY ARE NIGHT AND DAY. but they both have their uses. if you think you're limiting yourself somehow in a kayak, it's evident you've never been in one.
