Close Call
Kind of gives me an eerie feeling too... I posted in the reports about my morning on Lake Lanier on Sunday morning. I actually called it quits around noon primarily because of the wind. my wife was shocked that i came home so early, but i told her the wind was really wild on the channel i was in and making for some rogue waves and i was a little uncomfortable being out by myself. Fast forward to this article I read about another kayaker on Lanier on Monday that somehow managed to be rescued after the wind and waves capsized his kayak! Cliff notes for you if you don't care to read the article: wear the dam PFD and let someone know where you're going, it saved this guy's life! http://www.gainesvilletimes.com/m/section/6/article/115317/

Dobyns Finesse Casting
i don't have that length you're talking about, but i have a champion 682c and love it for 1/4oz jigs or 1/8 T rigs, fished a 1/8oz shakyhead on it last weekend and worked like a charm.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
going to steamboat springs a week from today, that's the only thing that's kept me from going buckwild on some purchases lately.... those lift tickets sure are pricey!! 2 weeks after that trip, headed back west to Las Vegas for the NCAA tournament and a bachelor party.... then i'm 100% on fishing along with all my purchases!

Do you have a trolling motor on your kayak?
i have one as well (30lb minn kota on my ride 135) and it's 50/50 as far as pros vs cons. mine is EASILY removable so i can take it off and fish the river, put it in the back seat of my truck for transport, etc. PRO: easy to navigate the wind hands free steering trolling is a breeze! Pretty stealth believe it or not CON: battery is heavy, must be charged extra rigging to deal with slower than you think limited run time then it just becomes dead weight

Any interest in an online BR kayak/canoe tourney?
most online tournaments do some weird math formula that calculates the state record and then assigns some handicap based on that.... being that i live and fish in GA (world record) i never enter those tournaments because of the ridiculous handicap they assign to this state! fun idea no doubt, just a lot to coordinate. the city wide tournament isn't as big of a deal because the size and species do not vary so much as they do across the country.

Quick Morning Trip to Lake Lanier
my dog may be a little mini size-wise, but he's a hair factory so i should be good for a while! i was PLEASANTLY surprised when i put it in a container with water at home, found mine looked best with no trailer. in the water it was incredibly fluid. almost lifeless on a straight retrieve and on the fall, but some erratic little jerks and pumps and that thing comes to life. i was just experimenting and having fun with it and happened to catch a nice one so i was pumped! now i'm thinking about mixing some silicone in with some golden hairs to see how it looks?!?

Chrome cast, Apple TV, roku
get an HD antenna, something like "the leaf" on amazon for like $20 or whatever it is now.... gets me like 12-15 HD channels, including the major networks (CBS, NBC, ABC) then get one of those units of your choice. i have all 3 of them and never ever ever ever use the chromecast, useless brick. apple tv and roku are good. cool thing with apple tv is if you have an apple computer, you can "mirror" your computer on the TV. so if you can stream live TV, find free movies, etc. you can watch them on your TV screen....

Quick Morning Trip to Lake Lanier
first off, that PFD is too comfy not to wear at all times.... best investment i've made for kayak fishing. and i've been calling it the "trippy jig" ... the dog's name is Tripp so that works well, and it's a little bit of a play on the Northstar hippy jig (hair jig)! i must admit it was pretty gnarly to catch one on it too!

Quick Morning Trip to Lake Lanier
Was able to get on the water early and had til about lunch time to try and catch them. When I put the kayak in at the ramp, the stripers were going nuts busting the surface. I made a few casts out to the them, but no action so i moved on. water temps were around 49 all day and i could never really mark anything of any significance, no bait, no fish. but i did manage to find a few baits shallow in a small ditch near some deeper water. i got 2 taps on one of my football jigs, but they didn't pick it up. threw the shakyhead in there with the unknown worm that's like a trick worm, but a morning dawn-ish type color, tipped in JJ's chartreuse on the Megastrike shakyhead. tap tap and it ran straight sideways, short fight and 1lb7oz spot in the yak. worked my way around the nearby dock and down a steeper rock chunk bank. started throwing my "hair of the dog" jig and BAM. 2lb2oz healthy spot! the jig is literally some hair from my dog that is some kind of miniature golden retriever looking mutt, not even joking.... tied a chunk onto a 1/8 oz owner ball jig, no trailer and this fish liked it! it actually had a really cool fluid motion while swimming and pumping it back. then the wind came and it was time to go, no more bites, no more fish....

Can I fix this rod tip? (Dobyns SS703C)
yeah re-tip it but now it will fish like a 6'6" and likely more of a 4 or 5 power than the 3 it was.
