i "upgraded" from a standard paddling PFD to an Onyx 24 A/M auto inflate and would never go back! the inflatable type is so comfortable you forget you're wearing it and that's the difference maker for me.

the orochi xx jig and worm is what i have and would not be my ideal choice for 3/8. feels right at home with 1/2 plus trailer - 3/4 plus trailer i think. i've mostly thrown 1/2 oz plus trailer on mine and it handled that range well. on the dobyns side, i'd look at a 4 power for the 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs you mention. don't think there's any way you could be disappointed in either of those decisions!

i have no science to it so can't offer you much. a rod/reel combo either feels right to me or it doesn't.... it may weigh 10 oz total or 20 oz it's just a feel thing.
