I fished Sunday in a lake that has toothy fish. Nobody broke off out of us 3. I was using the highest pound test out of us 3. It's was yozuri #12 I caught a pike,a walleye, and a lot of pickerel. Plus some large and smallmouth bass.

Scored some hedgehog parts off a member for a great price. The level wind cap is purple too. Going to grab the brake dial screw to have something on the non handle side to tie it in.

Look into lowdown customs production line of rods. They come up for sale on SU pretty regularly too,if used is an option for you.

Walmart online has a lot more things verse what you see in stores. That goes for everything.

Is this serious? You hold it any way that feels comfortable. It's not rocket science. Experiment with different ways of holding it and find what works best for you.

You have various offerings from all of the major companies. You then also have the choice of new or used. You can pick up a used reel that is in the $400-500 range for $300 pretty easily. You just have to decide what features you are looking for in a reel and then go from there.My vote goes to the new Daiwa Zillion.

I don't keep tabs on the plastics but when I lose a lure I make a note so I can buy another. $24 is great if that's all you lose in a season.

Yeah just save a bit more. $200 and you can have a very nice setup. My vote goes to a tatula rod and reel. You can get a 7'1 mh/xf rod on Walmart.com for $89 and a reel for $103. You can also look on that popular auction site and find the reel for $90-100.

You don't have to remove them. The shields are held on by a small c clip. You can use the point of a thin wire hook to remove the clip and shield if you really want them off. There's no need though just to flush them out.

They used to say fish were drawn to the red. I don't buy it but some do. I know a lot of the swimbait guys will paint their stinger hooks white to blend in with their 8" hudds.

All my hooks are shiny and all my tungsten is unpainted. Never felt the need to color match my weights,yet alone a hook.

The lake I call my home lake has a mix of everything in it. If the pickerel are in the area the bass are near by. At least for me anyhow.

The action of the blank. Though duckett doesn't actually list their rods actions. General terminology would be Medium heavy with a fast or extra fast action. That's your basic casting rod. Medium or medium heavy with a moderate action. That's your basic cranking rod. The moderate loads further down the blank and helps with hooks not pulling out on treble hook lures. You want the casting rod for an all around general use rod. You can throw a big mix of things on it.

Yeah the porting and spool make that .3oz difference. I didn't mention paint or accents. I prefer the dark grey personally and I don't like red either so the regular appeals to me more. Only reason I have an R model is because I wanted the ipt of the 8:1 for frogs and flipping/pitching heavy stuff.

The quick ones I can remember are the Zion drag star and a lighter spool. It's a smidge lighter and has 2 crb bearings also. I can't remember anything other than that. Honestly between my regular and type R I can't tell a difference.

The type R comes in a 6:3:1 and 8:1:1 Has a few things the regular tatula doesn't. The Hd holds too much line for basic bass fishing imo so it wouldn't even be on my list. The standard tatula comes in 6:3:1 and 7:3:1 plus a 5:4:1 model for deep cranks. A good all around ratio/ipt is 6:x:1 so now you have to decide if the few extra features of the type R are worth the extra money to you or not.

Numbers were good but the amount of 4lb and up fish was down from last year. I even fished more this year. I did however beat my Pb that I caught last year by 1lb. So I'm happy with this year overall. Plus I have about another 6wks of fishing so I can't complain.

I second spending more on the all around setup,as it'll get used more but a heavy action rod will serve you well for frogs and you can also use it as a heavier Tx rig,c rig, pitching and jig rod too. So with a budget of $500-550 you can get 2 quality setups and cover multiple techniques. There are endless options and you're going to hear a bunch of rods and reels mentioned. For me it would be a Powell Endurance 723 and 714. Then put a tatula reel on them. 6:x:1 on the 723 and 7:x:1 on the 714.

Rod A would/could not load properly and could result in less casting distance. Rod B would/could overload and could result in less casting distance and even damage your rod.

I throw anything of size back so hopefully I can catch it when it's even bigger.
