Ohhhh...I remember the service days....had a eagle claw pack rod and a mitchel 300, some marabou jigs that traveled all over the west coast with me. From southern California to Alaska. Didn't take up much room in the ol duffel buried in the middle.

Upon giving this some more thought I would assume where you fish that there are certain techniques that seem to always produce or just the majority of the time. ie.....jig...Texas rig...etc. Go with just five rods or less and spend more time with you line in the water...hasn't worked to bad for me in the past. Of coarse every lake has it's little quirks but there are some tried and true techniques and baits for each lake. Try to find these and fish em. Tight Lines

I've been blessed....fishing has been amazing around here for me....have to fish pretty deep but have had some amazing days on the water. Also hearing other good reports. Tight Lines

I think I'm better when I just fish the basics....if I try to catch them on "what I want to catch them on" sometimes I struggle. I'm finding as I get older I still "LOVE" all the tackle but am slowly taking things out of boat to kind of clean it up you might say. Time in and time out there are just some baits around here that always seem to work..... More time using the right baits .... usually gives me better results. Tight Lines

Going to get me a new one probably this weekend....God has been gracious to me in that have had no accidents.

It's amazing what a forcast and weather change will do to people....you hit the nail on the head. Bright side is fishing will be great next week!!!

Loved that area when I lived out there. If your bank fishing and it's not to far I would fish the banks around the I-5 bridge that crosses Shasta. Really can't remember a time when there wasn't fish there. Small brown jig, Dry Creek Tube (2 3/4")(Baby bass) 3/16 insert style hook, or a drop shot with a pink/chart tail 4" worm. Don't forget the crawfish smelly jelly with anise. All fished slow just like your using or fishing live bait. Would use no more than eight pound line either. You will loose tackle...but you should get rid of that skunk. The south side of the bridge was my favorite both bank and boat and around the marina by the launch and into that cove. Move around this area till you find them....always here. As a last note go into Phil's Prop shop...was a great store and good people. But haven't been there for years. Good Luck

Thanks to all the posts I decided to do some more research and found things very interesting about inflatables. Boatus.org/findings had some interesting statistic's. Tried and tried to find failure rates among inflatables and could not. But anyway...if does boil down to personal preference and also should one choose to get an inflatable there is a little more care for sure than just putting on styrofoam. Like one post said....the cylinder could travel at high speeds if not put in correctly. Think one of my favorite reads was to manually inflate your inflatable and let it sit for overnight as a test. Again... Thank you one and all for all the input.

That's the beauty of bass fishing....so many techniques...so many. We all....pro or not have our favorites and usually resort to those because of the enjoyment factor. It's good to know a little about it all (that's why all the rods in the boat) just in case. Case in point....would be amazing if I found a pattern fishing a carolina rig. Not a bad way to fish....not my favorite.

I use the Silver Thread fluro and have for years.....no complaints at all and the price is reasonable. I've gone to almost all braid on all my reels so am mainly using for leaders.....it has done well. Have caught a ton of big fish on the six....

Have done those....they work good.

I can tell you all this....have done a bunch of reading and as far as life jacket goes even the old material on styrofoam can break down over time and fall apart. I do feel too that when it gets warm here in the south I could be hard pressed to wear one of those when it's hot and muggy. Also feel when hundreds of "our Pro's" out there wear the auto's that they can't be all bad. Have even seen coast guard wear them. Nothing is perfect....nothing....so guess I'm still going with the auto's and when the good Lord wants me....well...what God wants...God gets. Tight Lines

Just watched the first MLF.......not bad ... not bad at all. Love two hour fishing shows.

Fish one to two tourneys a month...some of us are trying to get a tourney or two going in Jan and Feb. Tight Lines
