Need A Trolling Motor
That very well be whats up with it. Sometimes with loose wires or a break in the wire it can appear that everything is fine and then something gets bumped and its gone. Can really throw you into confusion. Think of it as a plug that you need to hold in a certain way to get the appliance to work. Same idea just inside your boat. Good idea to pull it and just replace it to be sure your not getting bad grounds and corrosion somewhere in there.

Gloves That You Can Feel Rod With
I use a pair of Simms gloves. They are mittens which fold back to expose fingerless gloves and the thumb folds back as well. They are also windstopper and polartec. Little pricey at 60 bucks but they keep me warm on the run to my spots, and keep my hands warm once I get there to fish.

Need A Trolling Motor
This may seem obvious, but did you check the switch on the side of the foot pedal to make sure it was set to momentary or constant? Ive had them kick to the off position an awful lot by accident and if you dont look at it you would think the motor died

Pegged Or Unpegged
I like having it pegged all the time. Cant stand not feeling in touch with the bait all the time. Also if you are going through any sort of cover and you leave it unpegged the weight will slide down sometimes leaving the bait up in the cover. Can feel really weird and youll spend half the time trying to find out where your weight is vs your bait

Okuma Reels
Ive got a Helios baitcaster. In terms of how much I like fishing with it, I like it more than my Curados. Durability is a future concern. Havent had it for long at all, but I really like what I see so far. Knobs are nice to the touch, and the thing is LIGHT. After I fished with some of Scotts in Florida I bought one and probably see more in the future if it holds up to my abuse.

Rookie Mistake...
I told him to voltage check to see if anything was pulling and discharging the batteries when not in use. If there is something pulling then it really will act as a load test. If it comes back fine, theres nothing to worry about

Rookie Mistake...
Your thought process is right. However to be brutally honest, 4 months in storage is nothing in terms of batteries these days. If they were drained to the point that they were ruined you have much bigger problems on your hands because that would be caused by a constant drain by something in your boat, possibly a bad ground or such. Do yourself a favor, get a small battery tester and test them. Charge them up, let them sit for a day then test them. If they are reading anywhere over 12.4v each then you are A-OK. That said, over winter, I do pull the batteries and the onboard charger, put them inside my house and plug them in every month just to top them off. Usually the lights turn green in 2 seconds anyway so they arent being depleted at all

Sold My New Bullet
If you keep flip flopping youll never have time to fish in your own boat

Reel Problem
Tip for the future. When spooling up, most spools are wiffled so instead of tying around the spool, tie the line through the holes in the spool. Impossible for any slipping to occur then

Are Last Years Shimano Spinning Reels Better?
The Sahara, and Symetre were changed this year to a new smaller body design with upgraded features. Price points stayed the same though. Many of their reels did not change at all however,

Pa Anglers - Bed Fishing Warning... Its Illegal
The areas in question have been pretty dessimated the past dozen or so years. Yes there are big fish still there dont get me wrong, but there are a lot of weird diseases and such going on, so closing it all together on those stretches is somewhat of their attempt to bring it back to what it was

Pa Anglers - Bed Fishing Warning... Its Illegal
You probably see them because I know a lot of clubs during the closed season down here (from mid april to mid june) go to NY or MD for their tournaments. Personally, NY has awesome smallie fishing, MD has some of the best LM fishing, so it goes year round for me

Superstitious ?
I always make a short, bad cast with a bait i know wont work as the first cast. Ive had too many days go the way of catching a keeper first cast, then literally nothing all day. Never again. Also, bananas freak me out on a boat. Dont come near my boat with one unless you want to get tossed in. My cousin broat 3 one day, stuck them in the cooler without me knowing and it was a horrendous day. I didnt know until we trailered when I was emptying the boat when I kind of freaked. We got back to a family gathering and he immediately looked at my dad and said "whats up with him and bananas" He looked at him and said "didnt catch much did you?" and laughed

Tuning Circuit Board Lip
Didnt even think of that. Its a Spro Little John with the circuit board lip. The thing rolls more than any crank Ive seen before. Ill give it a shot tomorrow. Its got an oval split ring which goes to the line tie just so you know what Im dealing with. I have dozens of Little Johns and none have ever given me this issue. I actually got the bait after I sent one back to their headquarters because the lip came out of the bait itself and they sent me two new ones back. They sell for 12 bucks a pop and I had them back in a week. Cant beat that for customer service

Reel Problem
Is it a baitcaster? If so its more than likely your drag being way too loose if the reel wasnt making grinding noises

Tuning Circuit Board Lip
Not a question on how to make them since I don't, more or less how to tune one. Got a few Spro's with the circuit board lip that want to run sideways on slow retrieves and completely roll over to the surface when I'm burning them. Ive tuned cranks with plastic lips but never a circuit board lip. For any of you who have tried to tune them, what way works the best? I don't want to start filing or scraping till I know which is the best way to go about it. Figured the guys who make them would be the best suited to answer this! Thanks in advance

Braid. Who Started The Rumor
http://www.sportfishingmag.com/techniques/20-line-test?page=0,1 Also, from my experience. In a slack line, all lines are pretty much the same, however put it under tension and hit it with a knife and braid will go right away nearly every time. Do that with mono and fluoro and Im sure you will see that its not the same. Theres a reason why surf fishing guys use heavy mono or fluoro as a bite leader with toothy fish or to save their lures from snapping off the second they get in around rock jetties or wrecks

New Here & Simply Want To Catch A Hawg
In terms of catching a big one, I have a few local small ponds (ones I can cast half way across with a good wind) and Ive caught a bunch of 4-6 lbers out of them. (none have gone over 6 though). My secret? Fish it, A LOT. Youll find areas that tend to hold the biggER fish, and concentrate on those spots. Ponds are a different animal though where youll be catching dink, dink, dink, big fish, dink. Theres no way to really "pattern" them other than what lure they want. Upsize the bait, and usually sunfish colors work great since they tend to be the main forage for the bigger fish in the ponds since shad are non existant. My biggest out of the one pond actually came off a bed using a Sebile Soft swimmer in a sunfish color. The thing annihilated it. BTW this pond is only 4-5 ft deep at its deepest, so 12 ft is more than adequate to hide those big fish.

New Here & Simply Want To Catch A Hawg
Man a 5 lb fish up here is a biggun! 6-7 lbers are a huge rarity which you only see 3-4 times a year. If that. You southern boys have no idea

Tournament Time Up North!!!!
Had a big tournament at a semi local lake the day before easter. Have another big one this weekend at the same lake. Was very very slow tough fishing. Started the year off with a big goose egg. First 3 teams were all in the teens with poundage, fourth place had less than 4

Frustrated With Fluorocarbon...
I have seaguar invizx on all my rods now with the exception of a topwater rod and a punching rod. I have 6,8,12,15 lb tests all rigged up and honestly, if it wasnt for the box I would think it was mono with how it manages

Empty Spools?
Never understood getting personal right off the bat.. In all seriousness, ask your buddies, save old smaller spools, or go to a sporting goods store and ask them. I know we run through spools all the time but they just get tossed when we are done with them.

Crankbait Bite
Thats exactly what that was. They chase is and then just keep coming to you. Theres no other physical way the bait can end up closer to you without you reeling in the line under tension without something carrying it!
