Re reading Slider Fishing
I was fishing the Slider heads long before I even knew the story. I bought the book and watched some of his videos a few years back. Some random thoughts...he focused on fishing mid depth (not getting married to the bottom was the phrase) quite a bit in the book and in some of the earlier videos but the ones I watched when he was older he seemed to only focus on the bottom. I wonder if he changed some. Seems slow rolling a worm just above the thermocline at mid depth would land some but I've rarely had luck that unless it was along the bottom. Over the Ned? Is that because the Ned is starting to be thrown by everybody? I know I'm seeing little TRD's on the ground (pun intended) at the local pond I bank fish from.

What is a popular opinion you disagree with?
That rocky banks heat up faster in the Winter. I've checked it numerous times, with the sun beating down....doesn't happen.

What is a popular opinion you disagree with?
At risk of turning this into another line debate.....I'm not even sure I'd say it's a general consensus. I do use some braid, fluoro (in heavier lb test), but most of my setups have good old fashioned mono. I do believe mono has and continues to catch fish.

Nrx spinning rod for Carolina rig
My #1 fish catcher this year has been a Carolina Rig 1/4oz on a spinning reel with various plastics. Not familiar with those rods but do like a 7ft MH with some backbone if that helps.

Spooling up reels yourself
A long nail..come off the top on casting reels, off the bottom for spinning reels. Squeeze the line a little as it goes on..it's worked for more years than I care to admit.

Cheap Lures For Summer: New Video!
Agreed...on. Carolina Rig and Drop Shot too.

Have You Heard Of The : "Free Rig" ?
I found the video..its around 5 mins. The premise behind it is to let it fall on slack line next to cover so that it will fall vertically. He said a Texas rig will pendulum away from cover more. Not sure I'm buying it, a TRig falling on slack line falls pretty straight down, especially if you strip off some line on deeper cover. But that was his take. But I do have some Dipsey weights that I drop shot with, I might give it a try. I remember the day I reluctantly tried the Ned rig, it worked out pretty good..

Yo-Zuri upped their game? (line)
I tried it too....twice, nothing to write home about.

Jointed Shad Rap
Ahhh..the internet, where time stands still for over a decade....lol I threw the JSR when this thread was open...I throw it now too.

OCD about Soft Plastic Colors
I'd guess stressing about color is more of an angler thing than a fish thing..having said that, I've seen where a minor change has made a difference (red flake) comes to mind. I generally keep some dark (black/june bug), white, and green. I also like a two toned laminate colors (if the product offers it) dark on top, light on bottom...just like the little fish, craws, snakes in nature. Nice and simple....

What is your favorite Crappie jig head?
Crappie Sliders are my favorite. Just set the hook a tad harder.

Have You Heard Of The : "Free Rig" ?
That's kind of what I was thinking...I guess to be fair, maybe it gets a little more separation since the line should move with less friction through the dipsey sinker...but that's being generous...and does it come through cover as good as a bullet? Interesting, thanks for posting.

Who else uses exclusively soft plastics and jigs.
Not exclusively, but by far I throw soft plastics in some form the majority of the time.

Search Bait strategy?
In theory ....but around here, if I don't slow waaaaayyy down I get nothing. I catch myself dragging too fast, I slow down and it's back on. But I'm fishing for green fish, maybe that's the difference.

Have Neko/Ned rigs replaced drop-shotting?
I haven't thrown a Neko, but I do have a Ned on at all times now. It's made the permanent rotation.....but it has not replaced the drop shot. Two different deals.

Anybody Ever Get Caught Without Their License?
Wow, thats crazy. Although, I fish about 5 different lakes and the one I fish the most (because it's closer) I've never been checked on in 25 years. I've fished it more than all the other combined times 50. I've been checked on all of the others.

Colors
Until somebody learns to speak to these things or they start reading Bass articles to learn what to bite..that's all you can do. We worked a channel bank back in April...3 in a boat. Throwing green pumpkin, water melons and had made a couple of passes because we were kind of stuck in an area because of wind. I switched to a Watermelon Red and I started catching. My buddies told me it was because I was in front. So I went to the middle, kept catching, caught a couple more and had to give it up....lol...That red flake had to be the difference that day.

Anybody Ever Get Caught Without Their License?
We were on Dale Hollow one year (one of my first times there) and ventured a little too far into Tennessee's water. Tennessee DNR took our drivers license and had us follow him to a marina to buy a Tennessee license. Very nice fellow.

Probably asked 100 times...
It's still my favorite. I've tried several and keep coming back.

Does a heavier mono effect lure fall rate?
I don't think the difference will be noticable or at least I can't tell.

Numbers Bait
Yeah the Ned comes to mind for numbers..and sometimes you can whack some decent ones too. I really like a Carolina Rig for a limit of good fish. Some days its Bubblegum trick worms, lizards, Senkos, etc. I just keep rotating until something clicks. I wish I could figure that part out quicker.

Mike Long
I'd never heard of him until today, crazy story.

Understanding channel swings
I fish the entire area where a channel swings close to a bank, unless it's a straight bluff wall. I might crank down it then but focus on the ends more. I really prefer fishing the cuts/pockets that run out to a channel. Find a brushpile on that...and well then things can get real or I'll lose a few jigs and cuss...then move...lol I don't really target any deep channel swings away from the bank. Those are 30+ feet here unless you're in the back of a creek arm.

Light fluro on spinning reels
Forget the label, I've seen this wrong on different spools of the same brand before. Two ways to do it that I know. 1.) Flat on a floor, with line coming off counter clockwise. 2.) On a nail, with line coming off the bottom (on a baitcaster, the line should come off the top). Both of these work great for me regardless of line type.
