Nice to finally fish again!
Well it wasn't a picture perfect day, but it was darn close. After long wait for the Michigan bass season to open my wife and I finally got out to fish. It was about 60 degrees and sunny, but very windy, the water was very slightly stained. But the best thing is the boat didn't leak and the motor ran just fine. What a relief. (It's always and adventure when you run a 1968 boat and motor) My wife and I headed to the Mio Pond like we do for the first fishing trip of every year. And what seems to be another tradition , she caught the first fish of the year. On her third cast with a Bagley small Fry (bream) she had a nice smallie on and had him all the way to the boat and he came off. Two casts later she had one again. This one she handled very nicely and brought her first bass of the year to the boat. Probably about a pound and a half. How awesome is this, 6 weeks ago she gave birth to our first child and here she is back on the water showing me up. What a trooper. I on the other hand got skunked. We were only out for an hour and a half because of our babysittter's time schedule but it was great to get out and even better to watch my wife catch a nice bass.

Fishing Golf Course Ponds
My buddy was a superintendent at a course as well. We fished his course all the time before the golfers got out there and there were some pigs. Just ask, the worst that could happen is they say "No". Then what are you out? Nothing.

Worth it or not?
Thanks I'll definately keep it in mind when I go. I guess my big concern is getting ripped off and then not having the money to get a motor at all. If it was someone on here I wouldn't hesitate, but this is just some random guy. I found a local guy who has a minn kota 40 with battery he "only used the motor 2 times" and he wants 300 bucks. I may just buy new for peace of mind even though it will be a lot more money.

Best spinning reel value
Pflueger President, has been a great reel for 2 years for me, and affordable

Worth it or not?
That's what I'm worried about. Is there anyway to tell if a motor has a lot of life left? Or any indicators that they are on their last leg?

Worth it or not?
Found a guy who has a 48 lb motorguide foot controlled (5-7 years old) paired with a hummingbird wide 100. He claims both are in good working order he is asking $225. The same motor new is $340. If I get this deal I still have money to buy a deep cycle battery. The question is do trolling motors wear out? What should I look for when I go check it out. Would I be better off buying new? Does anyone have a H-bird Wide 100? Is it a good unit, I have no clue. Here's the ad http://detroit.craigslist.org/boa/317140661.html thanks in advance Logger

How about some good recipes ?
I know its not in season but hang onto this recipe for woodcock. It was the most surprizing recipe for a bird that normally didn't taste good to me. This is terrific. Breasts of 4 woodcock 3-4 shallots 3-4 sprigs parsley 4 TB butter 1 TB flour 1 egg yolk beaten 2 TB Maderia / Shooting Sherry salt and pepper cream cheese Finely chop woodcock breasts, shallots, & parsley. Saute' in the butter. Then mix in the flour, egg yolk, and Maderia / Sherry. Salt and Pepper to taste. Transfer to a food processor. Run in food processorwith cream cheese until it is the consistency of pate'. Chill overnight. Serve with crackers as an appetizer.

Ike - Opinion update
Couldn't have said it better Norm. I respect him, but less of his antics is better as far as I'm concerned.

Where would you start looking?
Hey guys I have an online map of the Mio Pond where I spend most of my fishing time. Take a look and if you can tell me where you would focus your smallmouth fishing according to the map.The old river channel is approximately 19-22 ft. I understand its not a terrific map. Our season opens saturday and I am assuming that water temps may be around 45-52. The water is rediculously clear. There are lots of stumps throughout the lake as well. I would like to see if you guys see something I don't http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/SPATIALDATALIBRARY/PDF_MAPS/INLAND_LAKE_MAPS/OSCODA/MIO_POND.PDF

Need lure suggestions for river Smallies
As strange as it sounds the best technique I have found has been a chartruse tube weightless and just cast up stream and let it float down and just gently reel the slack up. The river I fish is 8 feet at its deepest, slightly stained. I usually fish under bridges or around any pile of sticks /logs I can find. I picked this up from a guy who works at Gander Mountain who lives on that river, I never would have thought to fish weightless lures in that fast current but man does it work!!

the pennants are in view the trash is flying 2007
Tigers had a rough one yesterday after coming back from 7 runs down. But beware Chicago, Gary Sheffield is starting to find his swing, and if our bullpen could get their crap together we are going to be very, very tough to beat. What's the deal with the league's big hitters Pujols, Texeria, Giambi, Sheffield, Frank Thomas, Berkman all hitting under .240?!!!

Are you surprised ???
The Michigan state record is 11 lbs 15 oz. That was set in 1934. I have seen lots of 7's and 8's but 10lb are almost unheard of up here, we just don't grow them that big up here very often. At least that's my excuse.

Any other carpenters in here?
I am a teacher but I work summers with my buddy who is a contractor. We did remodels and roofs last summer and we have home we are building this summer, the owner just signed the papers. Built my own home 3 years ago.

He's a pro now!
I can't wait until my son is old enough to take fishing for that exact reason right there. Great story.

kvd spinnerbaits
I only throw the strike king spinnerbaits also. Chartruse/white and tandem willow leaf blades one silver 1 gold. They can take a pounding, I have caught countless pike and a muskie on the same one I am still throwing.

Well it looks like I will be going back to school.
Just get it done. I didn't love going to school but I knew that it was necessary to do what I wanted and make a good living in my field. Bottom line. Good luck and don't get frustrated by all the admissions paperwork and crap.
