The Tamarac Canal Thread Got Me Reminiscing.
great story gar. i too remember when university drive was "west". my dad bought our first house in margate in 1969. my best friends dad was a guide at lox and we would go and fish from the shore and collect cans that actually had a return value. he would often take us out for an hour or 2 just to find more fish for his next guide. some of my best fishing was when my friends and i would ride our bikes out west to the sunrise musical theater and fish those pits. we used to catch toads. another spot was cypress creek and lyons. behind the mister grocer. monsters. man was i free back then. great times.

Shimano Grease ?
i just watched a great video on you tube on how to service your shimano reels. it is a piece of cake and i serviced all of my shimanos. my question is this: will it harm the reel if you do not use shimanos grease? i went to my local bait/service shop and they sold me some grease that they use on ALL of their services including shimano. i am amazed at how easy it was to do a complete service.

Alley
nice rob. i just wish fwc would shake the people down who EVERYBODY knows should be shaken down. try the big snakes, they have been working on the outside edge of the pads by letting them slowly fall of the ledge.

Alley
got a late start this morning and hit the water around 10ish. fished the alley and had a great session. we had 20 pounds by noon. it was sweltering hot with no wind. tore 'em up on snakes on the ledges. caught about dozen fish this size. off the water by 2.

Holiday 7-13
fished from 7-3 and caught 'em pretty good. it was hot and so was the fishing. caught fish in the center canal, the miami canal and the L68. our five biggest would have gone between 22-24 pounds. here is a 6.4. the water is up, but the fish are still in the canals.

Holiday 7-6
mike it was great to see you as well. yes the hicks won. i spoke to mikeybalz via email and he did not do too well on the alley.

Holiday 7-6
fished a firemans tourney today at the park and came in third. we had 18.7 and my firefighter friend lost at least 5 pigs in the pads. he was using spin gear and couldn't get the fish out of the pads. we caught over 70 fish and my hands are tattered. the water has come up at least a foot and a half. 26 pounds won and 19 was second. a super fun session. the park still has a ton of fish.

Having No Luck At The Lox In S Florida
it's summer time, so don't get too discouraged. as said before, the spillways all hold fish. my 2 go to baits in summer at lox are a big worm with a 1/2 oz tungsten or a big spook. i have also had success with a scrounger at the spilways. i fish my big worms on a shimano curado 3.8:1 ratio. this reel forces me to slow down. if your are not hitting rocks, you will not get bit. the first and second spillways and all of the cuts in the canal have produced big fish. the water has come up, but unless you have the setup that shane has, don't even try to get skinny. if you put in at lee road or the 20 mile bend, pop r's, lipless cranks and spooks will work.

Low Water In The Glades
fished lox tonight from 3-7 and it was a struggle pulling the boat out. i had to get out of the boat to push into the spillway area. talk about sketchy. there are at leat 12 gators there over 8 feet. it was still on and we crushed them. i guess that will be the last time i put in off of lee road. i fished holiday saturday and it was super low. all of the cuts going south are totally dry. from one to the wier was dry. be careful when going passed the weir, it is only about a foot deep with huge boulders on both sides. i saw an fwc boat whack a rock hard trying to go through it. we had seventeen pounds and finished 3rd. saw a ton of big fish in the pads, but couldn't figure them out until it was too late.

Hot Enough Fer Ya?
the hotter the better! 3 main reasons: 1. a lot of guys hate fishing in the summer here in florida. 2. the older folks DO NOT play golf after noon. which means 18 holes in less than 4 hours! 3. the beach is LOADED with these------>

It's About Time Florida Stepped Up To The Plate!
guess who owns the company who does every thing you asked? you got it....... rick scotts wife. he is basically asking welfare recipients to come up with $10-$30 to pay for the test. if they are clean, they get half their money back. i guess mr. scott doesn't care that a mother of 5,6,7 or more kids has to take a day off of work (if they have a job) and find coverage for their kids while they go to the clinic, and get a ride to the clinic or wherever the test is being given. this governor is a joke.

King Of The Glades Classic
thanks for the props guys. the jerks who came in on us weighed in 20 pounds with a 6 pounder. as they were approaching, i put a bait about 2 inches from their bow and said "2 cast lengths is the rule". they simply laughed and moved in on us. the sad/ironic thing about those pieces of crap, is that my partner turned one of those guys on to that spot and they STILL jumped us. un-freeekin-believable. i took it hard sunday night, but yesterday i went surfing with my kids and today i feel much better. it is amazing how surfing and my kids can put things into perspective. hopefully this experience will make me hungrier for next year. dale i will pm you later he spot i was at. i also know where the top 3 boats were. fyi- my old club is having a little tourny this saturday at holiday park. it is only $25 per man and it is from safe light intil 3. if you are interested pm me asap, so i can get enough permits. there will be a bunch of super cool anglers and some of their wives fishing. a non stressful fun day at the park. there are lots of fish to be had. let me know.

King Of The Glades Classic
saturday night was the meeting for the kotg classic. there was originally 5 locations to choose from, but 2 of them the water is so low that they were nixed from the hat. the 3 remaining locations were sawgrass, belle glade (lake o) and loxahatchee. when we got to the meeting all of the 20 boats had to choose a take off number. i was lucky enough to pull boat #3. after some talk by the td, he said this years classic will be at.................LOXAHATCHEE! we were to launch out of the 20 mile bend ramp (the one off of southern blvd). i was friggin stoked! my partner and i have been on some toads for about the last 3 months. needless to say i could not sleep a wink saturday night. sunday comes and we get to our spot first. 2 other boats showed up and tried muscling there way in, but we did the best we could to block them. one of the boats had respect and left. the other was a complete scumbag and stayed there the whole time. every thing we caught fish on they retied to the exact same baits. trying to keep the energy positive in our boat, i did my best to block out these clowns. we boated every fish we hooked and had between 25 and 27 pounds. here are the results: 1. mark sommer and jon farmer 28.6 2. todd kersey and mark rodgers 28.16 3. greg swinea and don demont 27.24 4. bruce austin and mike ryan 27.07 we ended up in fourth. i am 100% convinced, if that piece of $*** did not come to our area we would of had a great chance of winning. i could have protested and won, but why waste the energy on someone so negative. i cannot stand people who cannot find their own fish. imo it is weak, it lacks respect and just isn't right. i could and would NEVER do that in a tournament. nonetheless, my partner and i had a great day but we came up just a little short.
