  1. If I were gonna get them I'd probably use my champ 734 until i got the 706cb. You would need something with a lot of power
  2. High end customizing of reels is where I lose it. Hell, I have two on display that won't see the water. Hawgtech handles, carbon handles, custom paint jobs, pixzilla 'ing equals way too much money spent lol
  3. My dx 703 was used for weightless flukes/senkos and finesse jigs or 1/4oz spinnerbaits.
  4. I use a heavy powered rod most of the time (champ 734). However, this is because it is a versatile rod originally designed for big spooks and as such has enough of a tip and bend to compensate for its heavy power.
  5. Daiwa also has a new line which is partially white as well...seems to be the new craze
  6. I was actually gonna pick up the 7'1mh pinnacle spinning but figured "why not check the used" section...saw it and said, it's gotta be mine
  7. helllooooo dx 703 spinning for $200...thank you TW !!!!!!
  8. I also prefer the palming of the lexa. Tatula has the better bells and whistles. I just couldn't use it for long and sold it
  9. The only negative I rememeber from the first generation was the braking system being hard to control. They fixed it for generation 2
  10. Man...so many choices Dx 742 with chronarch d7 w/avail shallow spool Champ 734 with chronarch d7
  11. I was told the inf735 has a softer tip and parabolic bend which would make it great for deeper applications and jigs.
  12. I just traded for one of these and can't wait for it to arrive
  13. I was lucky enough to score a used one of these rods for $180 and man am I glad. If you can't score this, try the champ 764. It has abit more power as it was designed for c Rigs. My friend was actually recommended as an a rig rod as well.
  14. It's funny, I use spinning left handed and casting right handed. I'm trying to learn left handed reels so as not to limit myself but man it feels weird
  15. I had one but for the life of me couldn't get the casting brakes dialed in. Even with dual braking, I had put the brakes up to full and tighten the cast control and even then I would get backlashes with every type of line. I wanted to love it because it was so smooth but ended up trading it off. I hope mine was just a lemon
  16. My only point in posting this and the KVD quote was that guys are using lower gear ratios but those reels have wider spools which bring in line faster than a low gear ratio normally would. In essence, they are attempting to gain line pickup and have an easier time doing it. Aaron Martens/Keith Combs just suck it up and uses the higher gear ratio. Both groups (hackney, kvd vs. Martens/combs) are going for a fast retrieve, just in different ways
  17. Ha! I'm not crazy lol. New article on another site talks about this very issue “That said, a larger 200-size reel is always going to retrieve faster than a smaller spool. I can use a 5.3:1 in a 200 EXO ower, casts farther and still retrieves as fast or faster than a 6.6:1 reel with a 100-size spool.” Greg hackney talking about his reel choices
  18. Pflueger president and tec spec elite. With discounts it was right around 100. Great combo that had done me well on the reservoirs
  19. Hopefully you guys can undo some of the damage done by the previous company. I remember reading that carrot stix were bought by (I think) a chinese conglomerate. I noticed they introduced a few new lines of rods. Hopefully someone takes a chance and we begin to see some positive changes and a turnaround like kistler was able to do
  20. "His reel is custom built to maximize the effectiveness of the plug as well. He worked with Quantum to create what he feels is the perfect deep cranking reel; a Tour KVD 5.4:1 gear ratio TKVD150PPT; but he cautions not to think this is a slow reel. “I wanted the power of the lower gear ratio, but didn’t want to sacrifice the speed, so Quantum combined the gear ratio with a spool that holds enough line to pick up 24-inches of line per turn of the handle.” He said it is also a reel designed to handle the pressure of the KVD style of cranking, with bearings that support every vital function in the reel; making them more durable." Granted, this article is from 2010,but I see where read his idea. Nowadays 24ipt is seen as slow, but combined with the speed he cranks, I'm sure those plugs are moving pretty quickly.
  21. Things get interesting here. Kvd suggested a 5.3:1 BUT he specifically said his reels were designed with a larger capacity so as to increase the inches per turn and still have the power of a low gear ratio. Keith combs deep cranks with a 7.1:1. Matt allen, a guide on clear lake had me cranking deep with 7.1:1 reels and 15lb braid. I normally use a low gear ratio but After awhile I got used to it so it can be done
  22. There is nothing wrong with scoring a deal. However, the only issue I see is the length. Sounds like a killer squarebill and Spinnerbait/chatterbait rod
  23. Rods Dobyns -12 Daiwa - 2 Shimano - 2 Field and Stream - 3 Daiko (my only jdm rod) Rainshadow Abu Garcia - 6 Reels Daiwa - 16 Shimano - 8 Lew's - 5
