  1. Butch is a very humble gentleman and a good saltwater fisherman. I am lucky I've got to meet and fish with him although it was on the ocean.
  2. So green pumpkin, black/blue, and then a shad color of your pick. Trailers, Zoom flukes work, I use the Strike King blade minnows as well as the Rage Menace Grub. Agree 1/2oz is a good all around bait size.
  3. I believe he did show some class. You defending the actions of an adult who cut off someone, name called with kids in the boat, is hard to take. The lack of understanding and knowing on the water etiquette and rules doesn't give this so called coach any pass. He should know, he should conduct himself as such. Ignorance is no excuse. You cut me off I'm gonna drift in on you, cast, let you know without words you're a schmuck. He new he was in the wrong by not looking up. Can't defend poor judgment in adults. This adult made himself look bad, his on the water actions in front of the two kids should be addressed by the directors if he's found out. Those two boys deserve better then a name calling coach who doesn't know how to act on the water.
  4. Well unfortunately it happens a lot, been cut off multiple times. I was 50ft from the point I was going to fish and working my way that way to a dead end pocket had a boat cut me off and start, same day think I got cut off 5 times. Broke a guide that morning, watched my son miss a 8+ on a topwater I had tied on but he wanted to use(it was his 2nd cast). Whole morning went bad and was in a tournament. Chalked it up and put the boat on the trailer. Just because you have the money to buy a boat doesn't mean you have any common sense or idea how to operate one. They don't know etiquette, are selfish, I've asked to come thru areas that are narrow with guys fishing and ask if I can come thru on the trolling motor even if I was on the big one prior idling back in sloughs. Actually told a group where I saw some fish on the livescope when I had the trolling motor down. It's all about communication, fished community holes with 4 boats at clear lake no issues, we all worked around one another and caught fish. The kids in that video new it was wrong. They may have even known who it was. Some parents get too wrapped up in their kids sport and become that word he called Todd. It happens at baseball, basketball, football, etc. Some people just don't have manners and never will. They are just selfish hateful people. Thank goodness they are the minority.
  5. Use them on a chatterbait, buzzbait, swing head, swimjig, punch, neko (use kietechs like this too). Only thing I haven't done with them is dropshot or weightless trig.
  6. I 2nd that. Best thing you can wipe your boat down with. And you can add vinegar to your live well and kills zebra and quagga mussels without harmful chemicals to your live well system.
  7. So I love frog fishing, I've used 7' mh rod before and did okay with it. I now use a 7'3"h and have been for last 7yrs. Now my son who is 16 throws a 7'h (Berkley lightning shock) which is good for him, he's not as tall as me and let's him get leverage. The reason I moved up to the 7'3"h was lost fish I couldn't get leverage on. A 7'6" is too long, so swapped to the 7'3" and well fell in love with it. It does everything I want it to do and more. Now for my rod of choice, it's a Falcon Amistad Special in the old bucco line and have a replacement in the new sr. The 735 is heavier action then yours which is a 4 power. The problem with a 7' is you may need to move up in power but you'll loose some of the action as where a 7'3" can have the same tip action but shut down and give you the leverage to move bigger fish out of heavy mats. You may need to find a rod 1 power higher that will give you some tip action in the 7' length. But then if it's not a dedicated frog rod and limited, fish what you got. I did but loosing a few 4+ pound fish made me switch.
  8. So you can get rusty fishing. 5 years is a long time and bodies of water change. So go into it with an open mind. Learn even when you don't catch. Fishing pressure has increased as well so you have to adapt. The great GMan once said fishing is the losingest sport you will ever play. One day you can't do anything wrong, the next you can't do anything right. Each time we need to learn which fishing only 3 times a year is well......ya ain't gonna learn much. Put time in, ask lots of questions (here is a great place to do that) and don't listen to dock talk. Only thing that does is frustrate you or possibly lead you in the wrong direction. But don't give up. Get out there and learn and then pass that on to your little ones. And kids don't care if it's a 4lb bass or 18 of those 10" bass. If they are catching fish they are happy.
  9. All my reels have braid. Think oldest is from 2014. Only change it when its low or gets frayed. Been using PLine TCB 8 last 8yrs and doesn't fade as bad as Power Pro or Suffix did.
  10. Purchased 3 Deps Grand Slitherk frogs. 2 shipped from Japan and one off ebay. Avg cost per frog.....$37 each. Gotta love frog fishing.
  11. So have 3 of the older 1st gen carbonlite baitcasters. Used and still use one of the older crankin rods, 7'6"mh. Was my a rig rod for years now throws 6xds. Have a few of the older extremes both baitcast and spinning. As for use, I wore out the anti reverse bering out on one of the carbonlite bait casters. As for the rest, well the extreme bc reels are retired after 2 seasons (still in excellent condition), the crankin stick is still in the boat, and still use 2 of the carbonlites. Most of this was all bought between 2012 and 2014. That should tell you something about durability.
  12. 6" roboworm. Can do it all with that worm
  13. 10.9 caught on the s-waver 168 in light trout.
  14. Shhhhh......it's a secret. Heddon Baits Torpedo line, the tiny, baby, and full size.
  15. I did really good last year targeting suspended fish with live sonar. Were they active? I don't know but if I got their attention and they choose to eat what I present to them then obviously they were active enough to take advantage of a feeding opportunity. We seem to put a lot of thought into what fish think. I walk by my fish tank my fish are instantly "active" although moments before they weren't. Present a fish with the right feeding opportunity it will be active.
  16. So I fish the a rig starting when the water hits 54 all the way up till spawn, some in the play spawn and then chasing suspended fish. Then again late fall when the temp hits 60 and falling. As for heads I like the 6th Sense swimbait heads 1/8 size. Bait wise I throw 4" shad style baits, and if I go finesse, Keitech ball heads 2/0 1/8th with a 3.5 swing or 3.3 fat.
  17. So offshore fish unlike a lot of shore related fish are grouped up. Yes you might find small wolf packs of bass up shallow, but then those fish are feeding in a group. They aren't the lone fish we catch a lot of the time bank beating. Certain variables play offshore, mood of fish, location of bait, depth, wind, weather, etc. You hear guys talk about getting the offshore schools fired up. You play to the competitive feed instincts of the fish when you can get that group of offshore fish firing. And unlike shore related wolfpacks, you may have 100 bass in that school instead of 5 or so. So yes they can fire at different times depending on variables of the location offshore.
  18. So not a lot of posts in S. Cal Los Angeles North Orange County about bass clubs. Well I am member of the Orange County Bass Club. We fish 10 tournaments a year. Don't need a boat, if you have one great. Travel around S. Cal as well as further destinations around the state as well as out to the Colorado River system. Putting a welcome out to the community members on here if you're in the area and interested reach out and leave a comment or a msg. Meeting are 3rd Monday every month. William
  19. Yep, from the lbc... lol
  20. Yeah me too. I want the 360 but I don't need it. My livescope system ran me $2200 for the whole thing. And well worth it and changed the way I fish by giving me more information and confidence to fish deeper and eliminate water quickly.
  21. I run two 27 series cranking due to electronics. I have a dedicated perko switch for the buss that my electronics hook into that is connected with 8 guage wire to avoid any power loss issues. So my main power and electronics aren't tied together and have the cranking power to turn over the 250 on the back after fishing all day and running 4 units if I forget to put the 12 in the console on stby.
  22. So I would wire your black box into a separate switch if you haven't already. I have the livescope and have mine hooked up to its own switch to turn off and on. As for wire guage. Think about that main wire like a hose. The smaller the wire the less voltage that runs through it. I run a dedicated buss for my electronics which comes straight from the battery with 8guage. If you don't have enough you'll run into low voltage issues and if you happen to keep your active target on during the summer on runs you can overheat the transducer (can happen with the garmins). I switch mine off everytime I make a run to keep it from happening as so I don't have to worry about on the unit.
  23. I'm not sure if you can link the TIs together so I'm still running my older hds gen 2 units. I did however upgrade and purchase a garmin livescope system.
  24. I would say the Pompador Jr. I tried it one summer day and caught a fish on it the first day. Since then it has produced quite a few times and is a killer for smallies.. thing is ugly as all but gets crushed.
  25. Love this lake, but definitely isn't an easy lake. But have had epic days on it. The largemouth in that lake move A LOT. That's all I can say.
