  1. I like putting them under a jig spinner. I use a 1/8 model and burn it just like you would for bass. Works pretty well.
  2. That's why the shipping is slow. The compass is fra-gee-lay.
  3. Did anyone mention the Quantum Accurist? It has a flipping switch. LOL.
  4. Thanks Glenn, how many yards of the Sufix should it hold?
  5. I just got a Shimano Solstace 2500, and I plan on putting some 20lb Sufix 832 on it. Now 832 is exspensive, and I would like to save enough for an extra spool. So how do I know how much backing is enough, and when should I stop?
  6. Excuse the small size, but it was my first smallmouth. It was huge when I was 8. Not a bad looking fish though.
  7. I hate to bring back an old thread, but the line on all of my reels is lopsided. I've never really bothered to fix it, probably because I'm a lazy 14 year old. Any way, how can this effect performance? Decreased line capacity?
  8. That dog is even bigger.
  9. That's what I was thinking of. I just haven't seen any aquatic lizards around here. Thanks siebert. That's actually the only color of jigs I've ever caught fish on.
  10. That's your best option. They sell them for $12 at Academy, which beats the $25 that you would spend if you bought 5 5 packs. I also really like the Bass Pro XPS hooks. They sell them in a 25 pack for $8, and I have actually found them comparable to gammies.
  11. The American Five Lined Skink, or the kind that gets underneath your porch during the summer. There are TONS of these in the southeast, but from my knowledge they're really common all along the east coast. I know that bass can't stand lizards during the spawn, but I've never seen any of these around water. Actually, these are the only lizards I've seen around here besides for a few inch long salamanders (which aren't lizards). I didn't know if they would eat the eggs. I found a bag of lizards though that would mimic them really well, although it could use some chartreuse flake in the body.
  12. So from what I can tell I should probably just look for some different fish. They suspend when they're inactive, and more trouble than they're worth.
  13. Say that you found some fish suspending 10ft off the bottom in 20ft of water, could you fish a medium diving crank to target these fish. I don't see why it wouldn't work. I ask because we found ourselves in a similar situation this fall. This was the first place that we found a good population of fish, but we fished it for 10 minutes and couldn't get a single bite. I would have tried it, but it never crossed my mind. Do y'all think it would work?
  14. I love to fish a 1/4oz strike king black/blue bleeding bait bitsy bug jig with a black and blue yum crawbug. Kills the spots on Nickajack.
  15. If you can, I'd recommend returning it for a lightning rod or a lightning rod shock in a 7'MH fast action. If not it should be great for the lip less cranks.
  16. I think I'll wait before I upgrade. I've only had the ethos for 4 months now, and I haven't even caught 50 fish on it yet. Our bass club won't even start back for 2 months anyway, and I haven't been able to fish as often as I'd like.
  17. I feel like I would fish crankbaits more if I could keep fish hooked. The main reason I don't fish the crankbaits is because I can't keep them hooked.
  18. Thanks man. It also makes it a whole lot easier to fish when you're not doing make up work at Saturday school. Lol. I'm not really sure what I'll do. Both options seem great. You make a really good point though. However, I don't like fishing senkos on a baitcaster because I really only skip them under docks, and I just find the spinning rod to be mefficient.
  19. I get what you're saying. I would normally always go with quality over quantity, but I've actually been pleased with my ethos. I think it's just as sensitive as my buddy's vendetta. I just have a hard time throwing a lot of things. I don't like to fish senkos on a baitcaster, but I can't fish them on my spinning rod now because it's not sensitive enough and I gut hook them. I also have a hard time throwing crankbaits on the ethos since its so powerful. My hooks pop out. I throw jigs and worms 90% of the time though. So that's why I'm having a hard time.
  20. Since I improved my grades from d's and c's to honor roll, my parents said that they would help me get a new set up. Now I need to know if I should get a good worm and jig setup or get a crankbait setup and a better spinning rod. Right now I have a 7'MH Ethos/Mettle lined with 50lb stealth for my worm and jig rod and I think it's okay, but I was going to get a *** 7'1MH/Shimano Citica G7 as an upgrade. Now I'm wondering if I should get an Ethos crankbait rod since I don't have a crankbait setup and I have another mettle lying around. I could also get a 6'8 M F Ethos spinning rod as an upgrade to my cheap $50 Pflueger combo rod. I'm really having a hard time deciding, and I keep changing sides. So I want y'alls help.
  21. H2O Xpress mettle by far. I have 3 of them. Aluminum frame, good drag, smooth retrieve, and centrifugal brakes all for $50.
  22. I talk to a member of their pro staff a good deal, and he told me the same thing. The same guy says that right now, pure fishing is really trying to push their primary brands, Berkley and Abu, therefore they are selling the new all stars as an Academy exclusive. It's not any less quality, but I guess it could be considered a house brand even though it's a name brand.
  23. Fishchris doesn't go after trophies, he goes after sea monsters.
  24. I'm not really sure how else to fish these besides for a Carolina rig or like a swim jig, but I bought the baby size in watermelon seed to use as a trailer on a strike king bluegill swim jig. I figured that it would be killer if dyed the curly tail chartreuse. Any way what I want to ask is if y'all have had any luck using them as a swim jig trailer and what other ways you've fished them?
  25. I would like to know as well. I'd say that they're no less of a bluegill imitator than Matt's kick-bass (see what I did there?) swim baits, but they produce more quantity than quality. I think that they're saying it's there preferred 'gill imitator because it puts fish in the boat faster than swimbaits, the fish just aren't as big.
