  1. If your budget is lower I would recommend a 6'0 medium light shimano sojourn and a shimano sienna fd 1000 or a 6'6 medium sojourn with a 2500 sienna fd. That way you'll have a little more power for those big smallies.
  2. If you have to ask, you probably are.
  3. Thanks. I knew it was strong, but I didn't think that it would be that strong. Sounds like my next line.
  4. Have y'all tried rigging them just on a keel weighted ewg. I like a gammie 5/0 ewg with 1/8 weight. Makes it fall fairly horizontal and has less to hang up on. You can swim it, crawl it, whatever you want.
  5. I agree. If you even have some leftover on an old spool of mono it would work for now.
  6. I can't tie it in 6 seconds, but I have no reason to tie it in 6seconds. I'd rather spend 5 minutes tying a knot and have it tied correctly than tie a knot in 6 seconds and tie it incorrectly. It takes me about 20 seconds to tie a palomar, but I can tie it on the first try. An improved clinch takes me a minute because I can't get it in the small loop. If you can tie an overhand knot than you can tie a palomar. The palomar is actually the first knot I learned to tie. I've never tried to tie a knot at full speed any way, as I don't see a reason to.
  7. I know it's super strong, but how strong is it?
  8. Don't worry they do, but I can spit that hook like a bass spits a jig.
  9. It's ok. I also think that an experienced angler should just disregard IM ratings and that they aren't really important. Just as important would be the guides and most important of all would be the balancing point (see ***). I was just trying to say that if someone who doesn't know anything about fishing rods goes into a store knowing that they want a rod made by one company they can use the rating for help choosing.
  10. Thought is a bad word to use there. I mean sum it up basically.
  11. I'm not exactly sure what it stands for but I believe it means intermediate modulus. I know it's a measurement of how dense the modulus is. An IM8 blank will have denser graphite and weigh less than an IM6 therefore being more sensitive. Basically, the higher the modulus the stiffer that graphite will be. So with this stiffer graphite, the lighter the rod can be. A downside of the denser graphite is that it can break easier. It's really hard to brake a quality rod if you're using it how it's meant to be used and most rods are broken from people just abusing it. You can't sling your fish in or high stick with this thinner blank. That right there is why a person in my church bass club broke 2 loomis' s in one day during our June tournament. You can't compare one blank to another manufacturer's blank since it's not really a scientific measurement like an inch or a gallon. I know a lot about my favorite sport for a 13 year old... just can't afford it lol.
  12. I'm not a big jig fisherman, but I use paca chunks, a lot of the yum grubs and craws from the $1.96 box at Wal-Mart, and if I want a big package I will use either a pit boss or craw fatty. Only colors are natural colors or blues. I mainly use green pumpkin and sapphire blue.
  13. I've always thought it's what grade of graphite the company's using in the rod. Each company grades their graphite differently though. I mean obviously an IM8 Lommis blank won't be the same as an IM8 Shakespeare blank.
  14. Mine was when I was 8 on a purple blue flake worm I got in my brand new Shakespeare R2F spincast combo, I thought that it was the coolest rod that any one ever had. I was ready to be the next Bass Master with that combo. The funny thing was that I had no idea what I was doing. I just cast out and swam it back. I still have that combo in my dad's garage and the worm is in my nightstand drawer. The bass couldn't have been much bigger than like 10' but to an 8 year it was wall hanger size.
  15. If it's anything like high school (I'm only a freshman) it would be like this for me: Studies Fishing Church Studies Fishing Studies Fishing Sophomore Girl's Freshman Girl's There's two B. Monkies. One of them's the bait monkey and believe it or not it's the cheap one .
  16. There helpful for someone who is new to buying a quality rod but doesn't know what to look for. When used to compare rods from the same manufacturer they're actually really helpful. For example, some one could go to Academy and see an ethos or their camo rod for the same price. They could look and see that the ethos has an IM8 blank while the camo rod has an IM6 blank. Someone who doesn't know how to test a rod may not be able to tell the graphite quality with out the IM rating. Now you can't use an IM rating to compare one company's rod to another company's rod.
  17. Am I the only one here who thinks that fluoro is harder to tie knots in than braid. I mean all you have to tie is a super simple palomar knot for braid. It's easier than an improved clinch. And to the OP I've seen way to many swivels bend while saltwater fishing. Why on earth are you using a steel leader?
  18. I've caught some nice dinks with that reel. Lol.
  19. That was my first baitcaster and as of now only baitcaster. I bought it on sale for $40. It's a good little setup, but you will have a hard time casting it. I use mine a lot but it's started to sound geary. I've had it 3 months, used it in the salt, and still haven't cleaned it, so that's probably what it needs. The rod is ok, but the lure specs are way off. It's rated for 1/4-1 1/4, but I wouldn't through any thing over 3/4 on it. I know in your other post you asked about using it for T-Rigs and spinnerbaits. This would fit the bill real well. Your able to get some accuracy with it, but also sling some baits out a pretty good way. You probably picked the best two rigs for a multi-rig rod. Spinnerbait rods and Texas rig rods are probably the closet to the same as any other two rods. I would say that for a lot of guys they're the same.
  20. That may be what I get. I'm already sold on the ethos.
  21. Hate to bring this back but how about the mettle?
  22. No because braid breaks a lot higher than it's rating. I'm not really sure why they use a lower rating on the box . I just want to ask why are you respooling any way?
  23. I know that line color matters, but I'm wondering how good this would be for texas rigs and jigs if I didn't use a leader? How much would this turn fish off when fishing pretty clear water around grass? It's just the rest of an old filler spool I found in my closet. It's 14 pound.
  24. I think they do help with a clear spook jr just so that they have something to aim at.
