I love catching carp more than any other fish. Which reminds me, I need to hit a local carp hotspot and spend the morning trying to boat a 20+ lb. fish.

I don't know about common myths, but I have a few pre-tournament superstitions. Always take 2 peanut butter & jelly sandwiches (only eat one) with me on the boat. Always eat fish before the tournament. Before my last tourney prefish, I ate a piece of LJS fish. Caught a few that night. Ate a piece of salmon the next day, caught the hell out of them.

The reels on sale are the old models.

Take a long hard look at Old Town. I fish a Discovery 169 and it is as stable as any canoe I've ever been in.

Yep, I'm paranoid about it to the point of OCD. If I'm meeting someone at the ramp, the only thing I leave in my vehicle is a set of tools stowed in the jack compartment. When I'm pulling my boat, I won't stop where I can't keep my eye on the boat. If I have to, someone always stays with the boat.

If the line is a little older and faded, it helps to color the last 10' or so with a sharpie. Color doesn't matter, but black is a little better than pink or blue. Raul, I'm thinking an hour and a half, one broken guide, and a cracked rod.
