Best Medium Heavy Casting Rod Recommended?
I'm a Kistler fan. My #1 MH rod is their Helium 7' MH/F. I own many Heliums and KLXs, which weigh in around 3 1/2 ounces each. The KLX is a mod-fast blank, which you could also say is pretty universal, and maybe a better choice if you're using one rod for T-rigs and moving baits. Kistler's build quality is excellent, and they're made in Texas. I called Kistler one day to pay for a custom order I had in and Trey answered the phone, a nice 'small company' feel. Best of luck picking out your new rod!

What a pain in the gas
It’s business as usual for me. I’ll just work more if need be. My Father was stationed at ROTA in ‘91 - 92. Gas was $7 per gallon over there then.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I fished Ponkapoag late this afternoon. Numbers were good with a mix of LMB, picks, and yellow perch. Most fish were taken with a yellow perch Rapala lipless, with the rest eating 3.8" Fat Swing Impacts (black and Ayu) and a green pumpkin swim Senko. The two biggest fish were a LMB @ 1.76 & a 2.28 pick. It was almost calm when I launched and got pretty windy as dusk approached. Water temps ranged from 72.x to 74.x and air pressure was 30.3. Another fisherman was leaving while I was. He said he caught a 4 pound LMB near the launch area.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I'm lucky. I'm on the coast, just south of Boston, and am generally 20 degrees cooler than 'inlanders'. Why I don't fish for stripers more ???? That's a whole other thread! Good luck out there!

Will High Gas Prices Affect Your Fishing?
I doubt it. At the most I'll take my kayak more than my boat.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Welcome to the forum @Sputterbug. I dropped into Whitmans Pond for a short stint late this afternoon. Picked up a 1 pound Larry on a bluegill Rapala Skitter Walk and lost another at the boat. Nothing else. Water temps were 66.x and the air pressure was 29.7.

How much money have you spent on your fishing addiction?
Thanks, I don’t feel so guilty anymore. They are, however, great rods made here in the US!

How much money have you spent on your fishing addiction?
Including my Ranger RT178 , FeelFree Lures, 20 Kistler rods, all the previous rods, the many ‘high end’ reels found on clearance, a few JDM reels, all the lures TacticalBassin made me buy …. ??? Probably pretty close to what we paid for our first house…

Thanks, and we'll get out on the Ranger then.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I fished Ponkapoag late yesterday afternoon. Two small LMB and a handful of picks. One bass ate a Falcon Lake Craw Rage Bug and everyone else took a bluegill Rapala Skitter Walk. The highlight was seeing an Osprey take a bluegill out of the water in front of me. The bass bite's been tough lately. They must be 'resting up' for the spawn. Most catches lately have been on reaction baits. Water temps at Ponkie are 60.x - 61.x. Air pressure was 29.9.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
This passed weekend's trip to Cape Cod was semi-productive. I fished Mashpee-Wakeby, Long Pond, Santuit, and Wequaquet. I took a skunk at M-W and LPH. Santuit coughed up one LMB and two picks. @JG233 and I spent Sunday at Wequaquet, which was a pickerel fest, though I managed one small LMB on a jerkbait early in the morning and a small SMB late in the day on a drop shot. I saw only one bed at LPH. Nothing else at the other waters. Reaction baits, Ned, and drop shot produced most of the fish, and I thew the kitchen sink everywhere. I had a few decent picks, but overall size was small. Winds Friday and Saturday were tough. Sunday was beautiful. Air pressure was 29.9 Friday and rose to 30.1 by Sunday afternoon. Water temps were 56.x at LPH and M-W, and 58.x at Santuit and Wequaquet.

Glad to hear. @JG233 and I were there last week or so and couldn’t buy much of anything. Seems like reaction baits are the only thing working as of late.

By kayak, I’d recommend Snake pond in Sandwich, Hinckley’s and Sheep in Harwich/Brewster. Cape Cod is full of kayakable waters. Just pick one and go for it. I fished Mash-Wake and Santuit yesterday. Waters were 56.x & 58.x, respectively. There are some beds too. Good luck.

What's your FAVORITE rod in your arsenal?
Kistler KLX-TCRWJ-70MH (7’, MH/F). It’s called a jig & worm rod and just feels right with almost any bait on it.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I spent the day on the Ranger, splitting between Great Herring and Billington Sea. Both were a grind. The highlight reel is short: My first cast at GH was a 1-8 SMB on a bone Whopper Plopper 110 (my first topwater fish this year) and a 2-3 LMB at Billington with a perch Vision 110. Numbers were OK, with a mix of SMB, LMB, Yellow Perch, and one pick. One SMB ate a 4.8" Keitech Fat Impact. Everyone else needed coaxing with some type of treble hook bait. My perch Vision 110 proved most valuable today. Water temps at Great Herring were 56.x - 57.x and 58.x-59.x at Billington Sea. Air pressure was 30.2 in the morning and 30 in the afternoon.
