  1. I use 6.4:1- only cause someone told me too... jk... keeps me from reeling to fast ....
  2. Stickbait, jerkbait, jig, crankbait, spinnerbait. in that order
  3. This Abu Garcia Pro MaxII (click here) in my opinion is the best bang for your buck for a starter Baitcaster. I still have one and use it regularly still. Very forgiving for bad casting technique. just dont go over 12# test or it loses its forgiveness!
  4. I got some of those also, they get stuck in rocks way to easy for me, so now they just sit in my hook box and collect rust. I primarily use 1/4 oz football head from walmart- black head with red hook- get 5 for 2 bucks and when the paint is gone I throw the jig in the trash- it's usually dull by then.
  5. TWO WORDS! DUCT TAPE! jk- I use heat shrink, hit em with the heat gun and stab em perpendicular through the worm. The bass seem just to sling em off way to easy without the shrink and I dont like the action with the o-ring. But thats just my opinion, several of the really good anglers here use the o-ring with success, maybe when the bite stops I'll try the o-ring, but until then...
  6. Right now I'm throwing Purples, watermelon reds, and pearls in the day time for soft plastics. Chromes and Ghosts in jerks, and lipless. I haven't started throwing the deep divers yet cause the catfish are spawning still (one of my superstitions and all I catch with them this time of year are Crappie). I'll bang the docks with greens and brown jigs with watermelon/pearl rage craw. Shiny Topwaters. On cloudy days I throw almost everything in Threadfin shad colors or chartreuse. and at night, real simple-ALL BLACK! .
  7. I have 5 STX's (all three speed options) and 2 of the Speed Spool (5.4:1 and 7.1:1). After much research I got the Speed Spool (and not the laser) instead of the Tournament MG based on bang for the buck . To me I couldnt find any difference between the two except the spool color . I think I wont be getting more of the MCS ( Magnetic Control System) because I truly like the dual braking systems ( MSB Multi-Setting Brake). I've found that I can get away with using the MCS for lures that have weight to them. The 5.4 is set up on my deep diving set up, and the 7.1 is on my football jig/ big worm set up. I'm in the market right now to get another set up and I think this time I'm going to get the Tournament Pro Speed Spool instead of another STX just because I think that the Lews casts a lot smoother than the STX, plus it just "feels" better in the hand, and I like the all black reel. I know that the STX 8.0:1 has 33" IPT (inches per turn), can hold 145 yards of 12# mono, the centrifuge brake has 6 points, and I can get it for $155.00. The fastest Tournament Pro Speed Spool comes in a 7.1:1 at 31" IPT, can hold only 120 yards of 12# mono, the centrifuge brake only has 4 points. but I can get it for $149.00. I'll put this on a Carolina Rig set up. When it comes to getting a reel I dont mind spending a little more cash. More cash = more bearing, which = longer reel life (Hopefully) ...
  8. Just throw it wacky. then throw it T-rig, and then throw it Shakey. see which preforms better. Fishing Tournaments is a great time to try something new. Beginners luck might pay off!
  9. YOU AINT GONNA FIND ANY NEW TROLLING MOTOR FOR 3 BILLS... YOU MIGHT GET LUCKY AND FIND ONE USED (HOPEFULLY THE MOTOR AINT BURNT UP)
  10. COOLING CLOTH AND SUNSCREEN ARE A MUST.
  11. HOOKS SETS ARE FREE!!!!!
  12. first tick, rod to 10 oclock... feel any pressure and reel down and try to pull the soul out of the fish.
  13. everyone talks about wanting to fish, but when it come time to go, they have something more important or a wife that says they cant go! I find that I spend more time on the electronics when I go out alone. Always mapping the structures i fish regularly...
  14. ROCKS BROTHER!!!! when all else fails- rip rap with weightless wacky trick worms or senkos. Not sure about your area lake temps, but your in the spawning temps here! Its that time of year when you have to work for a big girl!
  15. Guess what I'm looking for today!
  16. I use the Owner weighted hooks and 1/16th oz at the most! Dying baitfish don't fall that fast in nature, neither should a bait! JMHO...
  17. A good angler doesnt use only one bait for hours without catching something.... I personally will cast no more than 25 times with a specific bait thats unproductive. If I know that theres fish in a spot and they dont bite one bait, they will get several different baits and colors thrown at them. DONT GET STUCK IN THE RUT OF "WHAT WORKED YESTERDAY WILL WORK TODAY" Bass change their minds more than my wife does!
  18. They both have a different action. Senko (Stick Worms) are lethal. VMC has a Wacky Jig that is an AWESOME jig (I found them at Academy for 5 bucks for 4). This has become my go to set up. I can catch fish in the shallows and the deep all day long. I have found an inexpensive brand (Big Bite), 3 bucks for 10 worms and I use shrink wrap to hook through the worm. The Trick worm is a great change up, it falls slower than stick worm and I usually wait for the second "bump" before I set the hook. The truth be told I only use a wacky worm on my drop shot rig anymore ( 4" Roboworm ). The stick worm is just so effective I dont bother with the trick worm wacky style much...
  19. swimbaits. I personally use them with a jig head. if I'm swimming them up top of the column a light jig head 1/4 oz or less, Swim the bottom 1/2 oz or less. To stroke em in deep waters (17' or deeper) I use 3/4 oz. Effective bait in the summer time when the bass wont touch a jig. I very seldom swim them in shallows though. Lots of good anglers use them, I just prefer flukes for swimming...
  20. I have a 7' 3" heavy/xf fr my jig rod. I use it for my swimbait rod also.
  21. I found that the Revo STX is one of the best bangs for your buck. It comes in three speeds; stx 6.4:1, stx-hs 7.1:1, or stx shs 8.0:1. If you use Ebay I highly recommend BigFishSports! They always have the best price (150.00) and are rocket fast in delivery. If I were to buy one this morning (Tuesday) I would have it Thursday! I've bought 5 from them and have yet to have any kind of problem! They also have other brands... I know I work hard for my dollar so I try to stretch it as far as I can and I've spent hours shopping for the best price available- they are the best price I've found yet!
  22. Braid bird nests are a nightmare- thats why I dont use braid in my BC's. I'm not saying don't use it, just keep in mind that you want to use a line diameter rated for your new reel. I tried 20# braid and did nothing but waste half a spool and a lot of time!
  23. I've skipped (or misskipped) a jig into a boat on occasion and have jumped onto the dock to recover the lure. I just try to treat other peoples property as I would treat my own stuff. I usually wont try throwing anything with a weight at fiberglass or paint caus I wouldnt want someone doing it to mine. Unpainted aluminum - I try not to hit it, but sometimes it just happens. I read somewhere that boat docks that have swimming toys and slides generally will not hold bass, so for the most part I dont even waste my time with them. I have yet had any kind of confrontation over fishing a dock, but if I were to- I learned a long time ago American Sign Language (had a good friend that was deaf), and when people start getting hostile, I just to start throwing sign at them and they lose interest real quick, people dont like arguing with the deaf. They lose, I win- and havent had to say a single word!
  24. The clearer the water the deeper a bass will come out of to hit a buzz bait... I've had them come out of 12 foot of water and hit the bait.
