yea i haven't caught too many pickerel, but the ones i have are probably dead right now cuz they swallowed the bait and really took it deep. MDangler14, there definitely are some huge pickerel (huge everything really) in that lake. I once saw two guys in a canoe there almost land a pickerel so big that it looked like it could have been a record northern pike. I just saw the head and it was massive!

Here's a pic of a probably citation sized pickerel i caught in maryland. I never hear of anyone eating them. Anyone know how they taste?

I too hear that people catch giants on the potomac this time of year. A guide told me that he caught his two biggest potomac bass in the month of february

top five best fishing shows out there right now 1. a day on the lake 2. Bassmaster elite series 3. the bass pros 4. north american fishing 5. lindners angling edge The only thing wrong with a day on the lake is the fact that they only do a few episodes a year!! and it's only gonna run on espn from january to march!! I don't understand!!! anything u guys think should be on this list instead of the ones up there? My honorable mention is bass edge and "world's greatest fishing show"

I went to a fishing expo with my dad a few weeks ago and showed him a lure I was about to buy. He showed the the warning about lead and birth defects in california that is on just about every product in every tackle store. I told him this but then thought "am i crazy for using this stuff and not even thinking about lead poisoning or birth defects." what do you guys think?

lol Something else I was just thinking to consider is catch some bluegill or crawfish, add a little water, put em in a blender, and you've got your attractant to soak you plastics in

I read a bassmaster article that said you can soak your plastics in the liquid from sardine cans instead of buying expensive attractant. Anyone do something like this?

Congrats I have a similar situation in my hood, but i think my lake is actually stocked with fish. (i wouldn't know where else bass and catfish would come from) but anyway I fish there anyway and so do a few other people and neither me nor anyone else have experienced policing about the no tresspassing signs. I would put my kayak on the lake and wouldn't think i would get caught but as a 19 yr old who uses his parent's car, my dad won't let me take the yak on it unless they open it for fishing. so I really want to present a case to the community like your son did. These suggestions on this post seem great. again congrats

Ok so I have a big green 2-person kayak built to hold a trolling motor, the only thing is i've put dents in my moms car trying to take it on and off the car because it is so heavy, and i just found out that it exceeds the weight limit for my roof racks. a trailer hitch and trailer costs a little too much for me, a college student, so i'm thinking about just buying a spot for it at a lake to store it (i've seen dozens of kayaks along the shore at loch raven), and then just using it at one lake all summer. can anyone think of any other options??What would be the best lake to dock my kayak?

except the price? I know fluoro is supposed to be more invisible, more abrasive-resistant, and has lower stretch for better hooksets

I'm thinking about getting some new shades too but i now have some xlj half jackets that i bought off ebay and have been using since the spring. u can change the lenses in them and they are sturdy. i stepped on em once, the lenses fell out but i put em back in and the glasses were fine. they are great but i just don't like the look on me that much :-/

interesting posts we've got going on here. what if i pust some dead trees, birdhouses, old and busted canoes and whatever else I could find and place them in different spots in the potomac river, and 10 years later, i still remember all those spots and catch fish on all of them and win 100K in an elite series event?

This collegiate bass fishing sounds exciting!! I would definitely try to register to compete if I had a real boat and it also sucks cuz i'm in college up north :-/

I'm thinkin about gettin my third baitcast setup soon. The two I had over the summer i used 14 lb silver thread on a 5'6'' rod and 17 lb vanish transition on a telescopin flippin stick. So what should I do for the third setup. I'm thinking that I'm gonna go: 1. Flippin stick with braided line-never used braid b4. should i use a fluoro leader? what lb test? (I fish the potomac river so a lot of grass) 2. 5'6'' rod with 14-17 lb mono (or fluoro?) (for making short casts w/spinnerbait around lilly pads) 3. new rod 6-6.5' with daiwa magforce reel with 12 lb somthin What 3 baitcast setups should cover the all around bases?

i've got a large car toppable motorized kayak but i want to take it to the next level with a bass boat or just even a jon boat. I was thinking about buying a old used jon for a few hundred dollars, a jon boat already set up for around 1200 or a used bass boat for about 2000. I've got my own job and stuff but the thing is my parents say that if i can afford to buy my own boat, i can afford to help pay for college. so the money im making will have to go to tuition. but i still want that boat. so what do you guys suggest i do to get a decent boat within the next few years or to convince my parents to let me get one, besides getting a scholarship (easier said than done, but i'm trying)?
