  1. This is a pic of someone elses, but it shows how half the seat just takes up space. This guy though I think created a hatch or something in his middle seat, which is another good idea since that part of the seat is real hollow and seems to have plenty of room to store tackle. Do you guys have any suggestions or ideas?
  2. I've got a 14' 2-person ocean kayak ambush. It's real stable, but I want a little more room to make it more comfortable, so I'm thinking about installing some kind of seat to replace the unnecessarily big seat that the yak comes with. I was thinking about: 1. installing a small swivel seat. Maybe I can glue down some wood onto the floor of the yak, and then drill into that so I don't mess up the boat. 2. get a cooler as a seat that would fit perfectly into the spot I want it, and install it so that I can take out whenever I want to but when in use it will stay put and not move around (I never keep any kind of fish but it might be useful if I wanna stay on a good bite and keep the fish in it filled with water and then snap a pic later) . Then add a backrest. here are some pix of the yak without the seat and the yak with the seat in it. the included seat takes up a lot of room, and i don't need the rod holders on it.
  3. I've rarely ever used a jig, but I really want to learn them next year. What jig (and trailer) would you guys recommend for shallow wood, docks, grass, basically an all-around jig for tidal potomac river type water? There are so many different kinds out there i don't know which to choose
  4. I'm in PG county, and fish out of a 2 man ocean kayak ambush, fishing the upper potomac for smallmouth and mattawoman creek and piscataway creek on the lower potomac. I also did one BFL and a couple of club tournaments on the upper bay and potomac last summer. I'm away in college right on Cayuga Lake in NY so i really only fish in MD during the summer.
  5. You might want to consider getting a good kayak. Mine is an ocean kayak ambush. 2 people can stand in it and fish and not fall overboard, has a batter compartment and place for a trolling motor (which i always use) to fit. you can car top it but it's a little on the heavy side and is a struggle to get it up there. but over the summer, i had a lotta fun in it on the lower and upper potomac
  6. can u use an umbrella rig in BASS and FLW tournaments, if you're casting it instead of trolling it?
  7. Main line tied to 3-way swivel which is tied to a buzzbait, and spinnerbait. just trying new ideas that will eventually lead to catching more fish hopefully. If i don't get the lines tangled on the cast, I think it will work.
  8. 40 bass is ridiculous, and most on topwater!!!! Where do you guys put in over there? I've been in that area once, and launched out of pohick bay regional park.
  9. My friend is letting me use his abu garcia ambassadeur round reel, but it doesn't have any magnetic brakes on it. Are all round reels like this? How do you guys deal with this?
  10. they've also got swimbaits and chatterbaits on sale
  11. Anyone know if this is a legit site? They have quantum accurists for real cheap, and I don't wanna get scammed on my college student budget.
  12. From another site *: 2009 FLW College Fishing There's no entry fees. The tournaments are free and open to all full-time students who belong to a fishing club recognized by a 4-year university or college (club members must also be members of FLW Outdoors). > Two-person teams will compete in each qualifying event (FLW will provide boats and drivers for each team). > Participating teams will receive a "travel allowance," and each team will have an opportunity to win $10,000 for 1st and $2,000 through 5th place. My school is in upstate new york and has a fishing club that is very disorganized, and no one has a boat. So according to this news from the doc talk section on another site, I can fish a big money tournament, on my home potomac river water, with my friend on someone else's bass boat for FREE??? This sounds too good to be true. This is the part I really like since I don't have a bass boat (taken straight from the rules document on the collegefishing.com website): "FLW Outdoors will secure professional anglers who will provide boats and act as tournament officials. These professional anglers will drive the boats. College Fishing team anglers will determine fishing locations and operate the trolling motor."
  13. cool. do u use a live or dead perch?
  14. Nanjemoy creek, potomac river 8/23/08 6-11 am lures: buzzbait, spinnerbait, t-rigged plastics, dt fat 3 cover fished: docks and laydowns I decided to go to a new part of the potomac today before i go back to school tomorrow, the area where skeet reese won on the river last year. I even recognized one of the docks i fished from the footage that they played on the elites tv show. considering that the weekly potomac river report from a DC newspaper read "All the creeks have been productive, save perhaps for the Nanjemoy," and that this was the only thing i had heard about the fishing in that creek all summer, i wasn't expecting to do very well and i didn't. i had everything i was fishing pretty much all to myself but i could only catch this white perch 30 yards from the launch on my way back in. i didn't end the summer on a high note, but at least i was able to get out on the water one last time.
  15. rondef, how long was that 7 lber u caught? I caught my first last week in pohick bay. i don't have a scale but it was 24 inches.
  16. I have a lesser expensive model (stylus 790 sw) that is shockproof (5 feet) and waterproof (10 feet). the original price for it is around 300. I got mine online for 230. I would only recommend it if you love to take underwater shots or if u are really careless with ur cameras like me(i've broken two in 2 years from fishing). But i've found most of my pictures to not be as clear as I would like them two. It has 7 mp's but my other cameras with 6 mp's took clearer shots. the more expensive waterproof ones should be better tho
  17. Cool thanks. So I should just cut the wire that's connected to the old light and connect it to the new light. should I use electric tape or butt connectors?
  18. I went to the store before I saw the LED posts, but thanks everyone. So I got a new light. I'm guessing I just screw in the new light and fuse the two pairs of green and brown lines together? Here are a few pix: busted one:
  19. here's the problem one
  20. I'm new to trailering, and as you can see from the photo i busted one of my trailer lights. Is this something I can fix myself? If so, what do I do now? for reference...
  21. is that a trolling motor on the yak!? Yep. The yak was made with the battery compartment and a place to attach the motor, but i don't think ocean kayak makes these anymore...i would probably get another one
  22. I'm in MD, but I fish the upper potomac now. anyway, here's my battleship. 13'10" 2-man ocean kayak ambush (pic with the middle seat removed)
