  1. 1. The fish should hook themsleves. Just wait for bait to disappear and not pop back up and start reeling with a slight sweep of rod. 2. Fish aren't committed to eating your bait. Switch color...if not that cadence or style of topwater can be modified.
  2. Anyone know how to make one instead of dropping $30 or more on a premade one?
  3. I have the 54. Buy it. That's all I gotta say about that.
  4. I don't want to change. Just curious how diverse the hooksets are. On Glenns video he suggests lifting quick then reeling. Like I said when I do that I feel that I'm pulling bait out of mouth.
  5. How do you all set the hook when dropshotting? I reel into the fish until line is tight and lift slowly. I also use a semi exposed dropshot hook with ML xf rod. On fishing shows, some people do it like me like Brett Hite at the classic but watching St Claire tournament many people were lifting quickly and little reeling. I've tried the quick lift before and I've lost or missed almost all of those fish.
  6. I fill a sink full of water and soap and toss my reels in.
  7. I don't mean to be rude...but there is a 4 page thread on chatterbait rods at the very top of this forum
  8. 1. Dump a gallon of arsenic in the water 2. Stop being friends with him
  9. The timber edge is usually best as it represents a depth change with cover. Often a creek bed will be on it which explains lack of timber. Think of any heavy cover situation like this, be in fields of lily pads or timber: If you were in the desert, where would you build a house? Smack dab in the middle where everything is the same or on a Ridgeline with a couple palm trees?
  10. Depends on depth and time of year. Find points and pockets and depth changes. Don't go straight for middle
  11. Mustad makes one
  12. My local store has a ton of these. TW only has plastic skirt version. Is the hair more desirable or should I cut it off and just put on a swimbait/fluke?
  13. Christie was a solid pick. J pow choked today... Bhite roared back but day 1 killed him. Elam in good position and Shimizu had a solid showing for E bracket.
  14. Anything above 10 is adequate
  15. A. J pow...duh B. Christie....Garmin panoptix is huge for this type of fishing. C. Elam...riding the momentum and has success in the north D. Hite...can catch him when he wants and he wants to make the classic E. Shimizu...good history with big lake smallies.
  16. I have ricos that I like. However...just got a duo realis popper and I like it more! Duo spits like an old Johnny Reb sitting on his porch. Pops well and walks well. Does more than the rico plus has a feather tale. The rico has a loud rattle though.
  17. I want one for terminal tackle as I read it was great for it. Can make the compartments small which is great as you don't need 2 inches for 5 dropshot weights. Allows you to carry more and keep it organized.
  18. Flat area any depth. Can be 20 or 30 feet or much more or just 10 inches.
  19. Makes a great Christmas ornament
  20. I saw that but his last facebook post was from 2013 and I'd rather just do it myself
  21. There aren't any local rod makers. I'm sure a few that make their own in their basement but nobody I can find. I'm crafty anyway and would like to learn. Give me an idea if rod building is something I'd consider in future.
  22. What size thread do yall suggest?
  23. Ran out of spin hooks today and had to resort to the palomar. No problems hauling fish over and around timber.
  24. Thanks, I haven't seen that.
