  1. I used to catch EVERYTHING with nightcrawlers crappie, pumkinseed, bluegill, bass, perch mostly Just dont like sittin there waiting for a bite.. I need to do something, feel like I'm hunting not trapping..
  2. First spincast was an old black Daiwa .. last spincast is a Daiwa .. current spincast is a Daiwa Dont know why everyone was ever so in love with even old Zebcos.. they were made better back in the day but they still had alot of jams. I have an old Zebco Omega from 20+ years ago and compared it to the Daiwa Goldcast of couple years ago.. no comparison. I would not ever fish with that Zebco .. doesnt cast as well and jams up like most spincasts do.
  3. I think its your experience telling ya to sit tight.. mine does that at times too and I usually listen unless I'm just going there to experience nature and soak up the scenary. If its sunny out (been lotsa sun in NJ lately) hot and humid and 3pm hottest part of the day lugging around a heavy kayak for some potentially slow fishin.. errr
  4. fall transition? the fish are already in some early form but itll definitely accelerate within the next 2 weeks or so
  5. I have the 8' Phenix M1 Swimbait H and was going to get their top of the line swimbait rod which looked lke a pretty pool cue but backed off and never looked back cause the M1 is more than enough for me. Definitely go H for the 8" swimbaits.. I dont think the H is really that heavy.. its more somewhere between a MH and a H Super light super strong And yes Phenix has excellent customer service.. but take care of the rod cause if you damage it you pay the shipping back and forth which can cost alot of money. I'm also in the camp of horsing the bigger bass in AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.. theres no playin with these boys.. they easily use the heavy swimbaits to toss it at any opportunity.. lost enough big fish giving them too much time to shake those huge heads
  6. Yup I wear big loose oversized one from Harbor Fright so I can slip it on like lightning and grip the gals
  7. Ya I throw the huddgill with my flipping stick and it slings it well .. I have no desire to throw it on my swimbait rod.. and no reason That said.. the 2.5oz rat on a frog rod is kinda of stretchin it.. you may end up damaging the rod over time
  8. I dont like the keel weights on my worms I just feel the fish may be able to see them as a bit unnatural I work worms generally superslow I am paranoid about fishes going up to them and closely inspecting them
  9. Be even more interesting if you tested the various colors across the most fav classes of lures to see if theres any fav color for each lure class then check out if the color matched in any way with local forage
  10. Labor Day Largie 21" alil over 5 lbs Got up real early on the holiday expecting to land the large ones early but only hooked the dinks til around 8am when she woke up.. Always nice to wake up on a holiday aside a big gal.
  11. Central Jersey here.. fishings been as good as last several years. Numbers have been good as well as size. Lots of 4's and 5's .. only down is this year is that have not broken 6 lb yet but the seasons not over.. a good time window is coming up which is end of summer and fall transition. I've only taken my boat out a couple of times this summer.. been able to reach fruitful deeper waters from certain parts of steep shorelines with long ripping casts and also taking big girls from the thick stuff. Been playing around with different presentations and new lures and I'm finding well its really come down to that if you can find the bass and at the right times.. itll bite just about anything. Bass behavior dont vary that much year to year unless the lake experiences drastic changes..you need to adapt to the conditions which may slightly change year to year.. the bass are mostly always hungry
  12. I think as long as you didnt traumatize him hes back on the prowl within 20 minutes or so esp if his stomach was empty and usually have a tougher time as a one-eyed jack Boy he had a bad day tho didnt he
  13. Its summer the bigger fish didnt jump into the transporter room.. they are generally deeper during the day or in the thickest weeds Either approach requires finess style approaches .. dropshot & slowly punching the thick stuff & frogs Even when you dont pull them outa the thick stuff many huge heart stopping blowups
  14. Its pretty hard to be the next Kevin Van Dam.. if golf or anything can save $$$ on college thatd be my pick too I like fishing as a recreation not as my job but thats me.. but as always follow your heart..
  15. Yes they catch fish but you will pay cause they are soft esp the tail section Panfish have taken off those tails easily and short biting bass dinks as well Keitechs made a great bait and ensured themselves lots of $$$ too cause you will buy pack after pack and need to
  16. I agree with Raul.. subsurface lure are more effective .. but topwaters are F-U-N !
  17. I keep occaisional small bass around and have to release them when they grow too big they grow pretty fast and sure do eat alot..
  18. The spook is easy to walk but the rapala skitterwalk is as good a walker and I can really bomb that thing
  19. the wife would kill me if I ever spent close to that on a sport which makes me no money
  20. A fish from a private pond or a hatchery is much less a challenge to catch. I fish for a challenge.. if it were that easy I'd go do something else. I dont fish for survival.. if I did maybe I wouldnt think this way.. I never really cared about peoples PB also.. that to me is not an overall judge of how good a fisherman is in my book.. and that is also a measure of fat fishes. PB is just ego candy. Thats just one data point.. and a data point from a private pond? Sorry cant compare that to a more challenging situation on a pressured public lake. No knock on Bill D.. hes gotta shoot a show and show hes catchin bigger fish easy..
  21. Most baits I get and are not impressed with eventually get their day and given enough casts in the right conditions do catch fish. Obviously some lures will catch fish at better rates. There are very few lures I have in my stash which havent caught since I take some out with the intent to give half the trip to this lure given the right conditions for it. Im surprised tho the SK coffes havent done it for ya cause they are quite effective
  22. It matters in braod daylight in that they can see the line since they have excellent color vision in some parts of the spectrum the inexperienced fish wont care the experienced fish may associate it with danger depending on its experience with it and run this applies to hooks as well you wanna take the chance.. go right ahead.. its a free world to believe whatever u want
  23. I havent bought a bag of plastic since last year.. trying to spread out my fishing into hardbodies and spinnerbaits (as always)
  24. I need a body of water big enough that it has enough variety of structure in it.. shallows, deep, flats, ledges, channels if a small 30 acre pond has that then I'll be on it.. otherwise it needs to be bigger
  25. I dont buy anything expensive unless its been touted over and over that it catches fish by a bunch of fishermen all over the internet. The worst is having an expensive lure (esp a big expensive lure) sit at the bottom of the lure pile with a bunch of more effective cheap soft plastics on top!
