Do you have (fishing) acquaintances that are a one-way street?
I usually give answers to whatever they're asking (usually a specific question with little followup) and no its not giving away the farm usually because theres usually so many factors in play that the questions people specifically ask about is just one aspect or one piece of the puzzle. If they keep asking and probe other aspects well then they deserve more info imo and a nice conversation with knowledgeable fishermen always feel good.

why do some LMB have very prominent teeth?
Reason I wear thick oversized rubber work gloves on my bass lipping hand. No more itchy bass-thumb. In fact its on the shot to the left lol.

Hurricane fishing?
Not many big bass in space I'm crazy enough too to try but the lakes I fish banks have lots of timber and hurricane force winds + flying timber = not good. No way on a boat in a hurricane lol thats common sense for most I hope.

Popping the hook when unhooking?
Only when the hook is really stuck on a hard plate and then only after angling the hook the way it went in then pop. Otherwise mostly a patient plier minimizes fish damage. I've had times when I'm standing there for minutes and almost giving up and alil more patience and its out.

Is the Fall Migration Influenced More by Water Temp, Or Daylight?
That was my understanding as well re: overnight low temps and yea bass don't know science so don't worry about your methods.

Hurricane fishing?
I've fished torrential thunderstorms (never on a boat) which can be borderline stupid but a hurricane would be way overboard. I would think the bite would be great but controlled casting would be impossible. I'd just wait to fish post-frontal on that cane.

How to fight a bass - wear out vs horse 'em in?
Horse the piggy in I no longer mess around like once did fishing mono as a wee kid on light gear. Horsing them it keeps the line tight, lets them know who's in charge so they don't fight as much, and doesn't exhaust them much and should aid in recovery cause they're not played out.

That Big Fish Something
Hi Tom, yes I see him pouring the molds and he is meticulous and logically matching the hatch makes logical sense but then in practice I also use spinnerbaits and I can't for the life of me see what it matches a hatch to doesn't look like anything that lives in the lake like Butch's molds and they still catch big fish.. obviously up here the apex bass not as large as the porkers fed on trout in Casitas with the bulging bellies.

That Big Fish Something
I tried his preferred big baits like the 10" Hudd with in-shore rods many years ago when exclusively fishing for big fish and never got bit on the large Hudd in the Northeast. I know they take big lures here too catching one off a 9" Hammer on the drop. Maybe I'll try the big Hudds again this fall.

Gliss Monotex Line ~ A Brief Review
NVM, after 1 outing 18# Gliss was starting to fray and this morning I lost 4 lures on breakoffs after my leader was lost on the first break. Going to have to goto 40# can't afford to lose lures like that.

Gliss Monotex Line ~ A Brief Review
I've exhausted my 17# Nanofil and went to 18# Gliss. I can see some slight fraying only after 1 outing. Question: I love the casting distance of 18# Gliss, am I going to lose much going to 40# Gliss? Am I wrong that as Gliss frays, its casting distance will deteriorate? How many outings usually before fraying causes you guys to replace the line?

Bank fishing vs. boat fishing
This is the way I look at it: If you know the body of water and the fishing spots which are productive for the time of year/day/ weather/conditions, can get there quickly, and can hit it from the bank, then you can be there alot faster and more often than having to lower a boat into the water. I catch alot more fish when I'm on the boat but I catch just as many big ones from the bank probably because I do alot more bank fishing due to the above explanation. On certain bodies of water, its just not feasible to reach idea spots and presentation from the bank and so the boat is needed. Most of my boating is usually in the summer months but I still do alot of slop bank fishing in the summer too which I tell ya most people don't like to do.

you working stiffs. do you play hookie to fish?
Depends on what you mean by hookie. Had a meeting at 8am. Left for fishing at 5am, caught a bunch of fish, made the meeting by a hair. How dare they schedule meetings for 8am!

That Big Fish Something
You know why people say a so and so fisherman has a gene for catching big bass? Cause that fisherman aint tellin.

I'd like some help looking for a book.
Ha ha ha. Now in these days of sonar and Elon Musk Star Trek satellite scanners, something really lost in the art of bank fishing revealed on this here book cover. None of that fancy stuff makes much a difference if you scare the heck outa the fish. I seen folks chatting up a storm and blastin music trying to catch bass. WRONG WAY. Even got waders on. How many bank fishermen do you see these days with waders on. If you see one, it may be me! BTW I learned near nothing from those beginner fishing books and sometimes not so good advise too. There are a few "advanced" books out there but you glean some here and there from this here book and that there book and piece together some good knowledge.

Cold Snap+Fall Transition
Its hard to write down an approach there are too many factors. When you begin you may just wing it like most people. More astute people take notes and review but when you have decades of experience behind you it all just comes down to instinct and feeling. You just know what you are going to try to do based on the season, weather, time of day, body of water, structure, and adjust from there. Then I do things differently if I am going after numbers or size. I adapt everything to the conditions and the season and what the fish is showin me that day and time of day. Cold snaps in general Ill avoid the shallows early in the morning but return later and fish cover if the sun is out. Its a puzzle for diverse bodies of water. Ponds are small and generally they can't hide anywhere so not as much of a challenge to me just like my brother who like to "fish" at the fish farms.

How much do weather/illumination conditions affect when you go fishing?
Anytime I get the itch I get up and go fishing. All conditions ESPECIALLY rough weather. Tomorrow morning is thunderstorm weather and I'm going out.
-
Pre thunderstorm bass fishing
Been fishin for decades in all conditions high, low pressure systems.. dawn, noon, dusk, night.. Through all that, I've also not found correlation between day to day air pressure and the bite neither. So many other much more important factors affecting their bite. Certain rains is good for during and post-frontal fishing..

Strange/unusual things you've seen fishing
Caught a lunker once reeling it in from at least 30 yards away and after taking a few pictures, weighings, measures, prepared to release when I look into the water there was an equally-sized bass ~ 20" staring right up at me so close I could have reached down a few feet to grab it. It kept looking at me seemingly interested in what I was doing with the other fish. Released the fish slowly and it closed in on it, swam aside, and the pair swam slowly away together. I like to think they were paired mates.. changed the way I look at bass.

Fishing on holiday weekends?
Fishing holidays usually only in bad weather or other conditions where most people prefer to stay home. Chatty obnoxious people scare the fish.

NJ Storm & boot-fishin'
Spent an hour fishing from the bank & mid-40s mid-morning stained water but patience brought in a pair of 16" likely males, one 12" dink and a 6" baby who took on a 5" topwater. Slow moving topwater was goin on so and left the lure on for an hour.

Beavers In Ponds
Turtles, beavers, frogs => fish (sometimes real big!)

fishing alone or with a partner?
When I'm with someone else I am really going to help that person catch fish and enjoy. I really at that point have low expectations for myself. When I am after the big un', I take noone with me except a camera.
