Jig vs. Plastic
Well, after reading what everyone has said about the jig bite, on the fall, I am wondering if guys like me who don't get many bites on the fall should try braid so we can watch the line better on the fall ?

Buzzbait strikes ?
I do believe it is more unique to a buzzbait than it is to a chug bug. I was fishing with a friend that throws a jig most of the time. He throws it out, lets it fall, shakes it a couple of times and then reels it in fast to make another cast. While reeling it in fast I noticed he got a good strike, just under the surface of the water. I picked up a buzzbait and threw it. Like Bobby said, they wanted it and it was a clear blue sky with the sun shining

Buzzbait strikes ?
Re: Buzzbait strikes ? "Reply #7 - Today at 1:13pm (Quote " One day I am going to write my theories on buzzbait strikes-. There is so much involved and "THE STRIKE" will tell you what kind of mood the fish was in. I have to admit I throw a buzzbait more than any other fisherman I have ever been with fishing. Sometimes they look at me and say "what the heck are you doing" and I say "JUST WATCH AND LEARN"-Didnt matter what time of day it was .When they want it -they want it. " Lately, that has been my experience also. I have been throwing it in bright sunlight, and getting strikes, and then when the sun goes down they just turn off. In poor light conditions, which is what I thought was ideal, they won't touch it. I still beleive that you can get bite any time of day with top water, if you throw it into a shadey area.

Buzzbait strikes ?
Most people say the strike you get on a buzzbait is a reaction strike, and I also think this. If a buzzbait is a reaction strike, what is a chug bug, popper, spook and other topwate bites? I am thinking that a reaction strike should be a color they can't see very good. Good enough to locate it, but not get a good look at it.

Anyone ever use one of these?
Never seen one, but it looks like a modified chatterbait to me. Don't see why it wouldn't work as good as a chatterbait.

Buzzbait color help?
Sounds like some of you guys are saying throw a black one in the daytime. Is this correct? I have been throwing a white & chartruse or a solid white in the daytime, and then only in shaded areas. Switching to black at night. Haven't had much success with the black at night, but have caught some on the white and white & chartrusse in the daytime.

What was your personal best caught on?
8 lb LM, year before last, on a chug bug. Baby bass color. It was probably in Sept. 8 lb LM, Last Fall, on a drop shot, using a watermelon candy baby brush hog.

Swimbaits at night?
Nate Thanks for the info on the hook set. I too have been trying some swimbaits, but seems like I miss a lot of bites and too many are getting off before I get them in the boat. What size and type hook are you using?

Question about top water baits
In clear water, what do you guys think is the maximum depth water that is pratical to fish top water plugs? In other words, how far up will a bass come to take a bait on top of the water?

Best sub $100 baitcaster...
Watch the flea market section of this site. I have bought a couple of good used reels and rods that I think are excellent values.

Rapala Shad Rap
This is probably a dumb question, but how do you tell when it is still in the package, if it is a balsa or plastic one?

What size and color crankbaits to buy
Locally some people are having good luck with Shad Raps and Husky Jerk Baits. I am not much of a crankbait fisherman, what size and color would you guys suggest I buy? Water is stained now, but will clear up later on. cwb60

Replacing eye on rod
I didn't make myself very clear on the rod guide. The wrap didn't break, it was the part of the guide frame that holds the eye up off the rod. Someone must have stepped on it, it was mashed down flat agains the rod and when I tried to straighten it it broke completely off between the rod and the eye of the guide. It is not an expenside rod, I just thouoght I would try to fix it if there is a kit or something like there is for tip repair. Thanks cwb60

Replacing eye on rod
I broke the eye on one of my rods the other day. It is the lst eye down from the tip. It looks like I would need some kind of wrap to replace it. Can someone give me some instructions on how to do it and where to get what I need? Thanks cwb60

Browning?
I have a browning midas 6 that I bought off ebay for $45. Seller said in like new condition and he described it correctly. I have been well pleased with it. I lost a brake shoe and never found it. Outdoor World didn't have it, but refered me to www.tackleservice.com. Tackle service didn't show the Browning on their site, but when I serched the part # Outdoor World gave me it returned it and they had it in stock. They also had Cajun 100% Fluorocarbon line. I didn't know Cajun made a Fluorocarbon line. I bought a 200 yd spool of it and if it is good will post the results here. cwb60

Tru Tungsten worm weight, line breaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try backing off a little on your drag. If you set the hook really hard, and your drag is too tight, could be part of the problem, especially if you are setting the hook with some slack in your line.

left handed rods
I'm thinking he meant to type REEL and not ROD. Welcome express 86. I think you will find this is a good bunch of guys and very helpful. Someone has been able to answer about any question I have had. cwb60

Purple Plastics
I have had success with blueberry brush hogs. That is a dark blue(almost black) with lighter flakes. I think that is very close to the same color you guys are talking about. I had good luck with them on drop shots, texas rigs, and bite the head off and use whats left as a trailer on a jig. cwb60

Browning Round Reel (midas 6L)
Just a little update on the Browning reel. It has two thumb screws on the handle side that go all the way thru and screw into the plate on the other side and hold it on. I was trying to unscrew the side plate. The brakes are under the plate. cwb60

Browning Round Reel (midas 6L)
The other day I made a bid on a Browning reel on ebay and got it. Reel came today and it cast good and drag seems to hold good. Deceided to set the brake a little to see if I could throw it a little farther. I don't see a brake adjustment on it. What am I missing?? Anyone got any experience with these? Across the top it has a plate that say MIDAS and under that 6 bearing system. I can't find a model number or anything else except on the bottom it says "made in Japan". Don't know what I got, but it seems to work good. Thanks for any information you have! cwb60

1996 Mercury 150HP pee water ???
Never tried this, but don't know why it wouldn't work, just to check. Catch the pee water in a container and put a candy thermometer in it and see how hot the water coming out is. It should be slightly cooler than the thermostadt setting. cwb60
