I mostly use yellow. Whether I can see the line is the most important factor regarding color...to me, anyway. I have used pink and lime green with good visibility results, also.

Tom, I, too, am happy you got out. Thanks for posting. The above made me laugh because I accidentally found them in shore brush two days ago myself. Badly overshot a cast to the drop off and landed in less than a foot of water in moderately thick brush....and got slammed. 5 hours into a relatively slow November day and everything turned around because of a bad cast. Never expected them there.

Picking nits.... I've had a challenge finding messages. Maybe just my phone (Galaxy S20)... or just me. But when this opens, I discovered, by chance, that it can be slid to the left to uncover messages. Not sure if its a sizing thing, or if maybe some indication could be placed to indicate that there is more 'hidden' content available....or if its just me, I'll have to remember how I got there.

Nice! I've launched my yak at Hopyard in past years and really struggled in that neighborhood. @TOXIC, are you making long runs up and down from there?

Is it a shallow spool? If not, my bigger concern (than slipping) would be having to put 300 yards of 8# braid on. If spool is shallow, then like @roadwarriorsays, 'no knot'.

1. More better homework prior to getting on new water. 2. I need to rewatch some G-man videos on PMA. I got taken off my game for way too long by missed/lost fish. 3. I may need to set an alarm at certain times in tournament day. Perhaps divide the day into thirds. In a typical 8 hour tournament I, too often, get to about hour 6.5 and realize I hosed my game plan and I spend the last 90 minutes flailing. 4. I say this every year, but I have to improve my boat positioning. Fishing from a kayak has unique challenges, but I get impatient often and compromise my casts with bad angles.

I fish from a kayak and usually limited to eight rods. I'll pick the eight I think will best suit the expected conditions. And the I pack 10 to 20 times the amount of lures I could reasonably expect to use. I have carried baits out in probably a hundred trips this year that I haven't used once....but...I might need one tomorrow...lol

May need to consider the source. You can spend a lifetime fishing the Potomac and nearly always have 3 FOW within casting distance (if you have a 1/2 oz tied on, anyway:))

Tom, I'm not sure if its a Potomac thing, but I wear 'em out on blade baits here, but cannot buy a bite on a tail spin. Threadfin shad seem to be the predominant fall forage....but there's probably a hundred other species of bait in the river, too

No. Not really. I fish them in the rez, George....which is one big brushpile in places...lol. I lose plenty of them. I just make the pops off the bottom a little gentler in places and hope for the best. Fortunately, if they aren't driven into the wood, the weight helps free them after you get behind it

What? Cordell? I suppose because they're often cheap, people may avoid them....I'm sorta guilty...same with Super Spots...

One of my favorite times of the year. Description is spot on for here. Timing is just a hair early. They aren't jumping on it yet, since the weather has been so warm, but it won't be long. BTW, @A-Jayhas posted a great video...if i can find it,, I'll link it here

It definitely gets bit, but I get frustrated that I have very low ratio of landing fish with it. TBH, I am just not very good with keeping bass on any small hooks, I guess. But setting the hook and keeping them pinned with 65 is a real challenge for me.

Put her on fish. I know that's easier said than done, but the first couple hours...or trips...or maybe months...should be about teaching her without sounding like you're teaching....and always put her in best casting position to catch fish. If she takes a break and goes to her phone or book, than accept it and relish that first cast to the lay downs. Ten years ago, I got lucky and put my wife on a nice 3 or 4 pounder in first two hours of her first trip. That was all it took.

You said it better than I could have. I use a St Croix Rage 7'1" MF for cranks and traps under 1/2, and it is perfect. Unfortunately, it is a bit underpowered for larger baits. I have handled, but not used a Cashion Elite Crankbait rod, and it felt perfect. If anyone has experience with the C90573B, let me know what you think. I probably should go and look at current gen St Croix....whatever has 'replaced Rage SC III's

I kayak fish and take eight rods. I typically have 13 or 14 in my car to choose from when I launch. And another dozen in the house. And yet....nearly every time out over the last few months, I have felt that I need a new rod for some application....that I just don't have the right stick for what I'm trying to do. I think I'm going a little nuts. Here's some specific times where I felt I needed something different: 1- Dragging 3/4 c-rig on sparse (sandy) points maybe 18-23 FOW 2- Dragging 3/8-5/8 trig big worms same as above...(DX 744C is good, but not quite right...so I leave a jig on it) 3- 1/2 oz traps on points from 8-18 FOW 4- Putting 3/8-1/2 spinnerbaits and chatterbaits well under docks and overhanging limbs 5- Long chatterbbait rod for bombing casts across flats and submerging grass 6- 4 inch paddle tails on 1/4 oz weighted hook, or trig 7. - 10 ft squarebills - Big buzzbaits over mats It could be an expensive off-season if I don't decide not to be so picky. I have rods that once were fine for these...now none seem right. If you have found the perfect rod for any of those, let me know.....some upcoming sale is going to be ugly....maybe Kistler's current one. The priority is probably a single graphite rod for 3 and 7. I've grown to really dislike glass

I just looked at Gammy hooks. You are correct that they now sell them with eye aligned with hook...and they now have keepers. These are new to me. When I started using weighted EWGs, these are all that Gammy had...eye 90 degrees off, and you had to add a hitchhiker ...but I made due...and learned to love weighted hooks....once I tried Owners, I never looked back

Finally getting close again. With the uncertainty of the postponement and COVID still around, the field looks to be closer to 400 than 700. Still a lot of yaks. Anyone else here still going? I'm guessing water temps in high 60s, so probably a lot of transition/scattered bass hunting shad, but maybe not in back of the creeks yet....really looking forward to it, but still anxious about crowded fishing conditions
