Great question. I use both a lot.....and somewhat interchangeably. I guess one of the big differences for me is the weights I am using. I typically use 1/16 & 1/8 weighted hooks (Rage-Rigged) for what I think of as 'light pitching'. I like the way the weighted hook presents in a mostly horizontal fashion. Comes through wood and grass well. If I'm doing more hopping or dragging, I prefer the bullet weight. Not sure I can explain why very well, but the feedback from bottom and cover is better with the weight out front, especially if i am using tungsten. Try both in a variety of situations and find which gives you best feedback, snagless-ness and hooksets.

Well said. As Catt also points out so often, the most important tool in bass fishing is between your ears. But when a bass fishing outing or situation gets particularly challenging....and I can't reason my way through it....the tool between my ears gets short circuited. PMA erodes and can go so far as give me what I tend to refer to as a 'crisis of confidence'. Helps to take a step back and blame the bass instead...

Yes. Clearly everyone will weigh deciding factors differently. Consider some of these and maybe you will better frame your question: -Up front budget -Sustainment budget -Storage capabilities -Transport capabilities -Maintenance aptitude and desire -Where you plan to fish -Prefer to fish alone or with someone There's probably a number of other factors that others found important to weigh

I have found that I have to be extremely careful to cut the tags as close as possible with light lines. It doesn't take much for that tiny bit of fluoro tag to catch a guide when casting and ruin your day.

Search "wind knots" in quotation marks. Are you using a leader?

Ordered a big bunch of tungsten weights from omfishingsinkers last week. Was pretty excited to receive them today. OMFS usually takes 5 or 6 weeks to ship. Figured they must be using a US distributor now. I checked my emails and found that I'd ordered some on July 12....forgot about it and ordered again last week....Oh well...I have been going through them pretty fast, anyway...lol

It has caps attached to the bracket-holder thing, but none on the cables. I talked to Garmin C/S and they were great. They explained that generally, the holder part would stay in the mount, and people just pop the head unit out, and then the cables would stay plugged in. But I disconnect the cables, and put the head unit (still in the mounting bracket) inside my vehicle. So the caps don't do me any good. Garmin C/S sent me some caps, but they don't fit cable connectors....they are the same as the ones on the mount.

Thank you. Cursory googling led me to think that it is important. But, I know less than nothing about electric stuff....I couldn't tell from the interwebs if dielectric grease was a solution, or more for just corrosion prevention.

Wet electronics connections are driving me nuts. I'm looking for tips, tricks, hacks, suggestions. I have a kayak wired up with a Garmin Echomap Plus 73sv. If it has rained in the last day or two, I sometimes cannot use my graph for an hour or more...until I get things dried out. The cable connectors don't have caps, like my old Lowrance units did. I talked with Garmin and they intend for you to leave the bracket on the boat, and just pop off the head -- the bracket connections have caps. So the cable ends are sitting exposed to the elements, as the yak is on my car, uncovered most of the year. Even worse, the fuse housing, internal to the kayak, also gets moisture inside of it, and that is even tougher to dry out. I can probably put electrical tape some plastic wrap around the fuse. But, I'm not at all sure how to protect the cable ends when not in use, short of baggies and rubber bands. Any suggestions?

Most of my favorite reels have Smoke in the name. I actually think that I benefit from Quantum's 'lesser profile'. I have about a dozen and never paid close to MSRP.

Absolutely love L'Via L'Viaquez, but I had trouble getting into much else from them....I recognize the talent and appreciate what they did...just couldn't grab me like that first song I heard by them.
