I won't disagree with Wilderness and Pescador recommendations. As to the question about the big two brands...IMO, no such thing. I can easily think of at least a dozen brand names that I'd be willing to recommend....Jackson, Hobie, Malibu, Vibe, Wildy, Perception, Ocean, Old Town, Feel Free, Eddy, Native, Pelican...I'm sure there's a couple big names I haven't come up with yet. Some of these brands have models that are remarkably similar...as if they share molds...anyway, my point was that you can't easily narrow it by brand. I'm the opposite of @MassYak85; I wouldn't consider a sit-in. Not denigrating his choice at all...just telling you that you probably should sit in some different options before making a decision. I haven't sat in one, but I know two Ghost owners who love them.

Actually, this is not at all insignificant to me. I tend to leave a DS rod rigged for extended periods and it is unwieldy. Add me to the list of charter members of the 'Move it too much club'....I do not have the patience for dead/very slow presentations....but I'm working on it.

I agree with above...except the 43 part I don't follow professional tournament fishing, but I admit that I enjoy reading about it, and the personalities in the magazine. I can't say that I really learn much of anything that can't be learned from this site, but rereading, reinforcing the ideas and hearing them in different ways is always good. But, honestly, I get more than enough value in my subscription from two things: DOTL and the blue bags. The bags are the perfect size for my primary kayak hatch. And Day on the Lake is easily my favorite part of the magazine...learning how a pro attacks a new lake is informative....and admittedly, when a pro gets absolutely humbled by a new lake, I'm always a little heartened.

I think that small is OK...you can still get on areas of the Potomac and Anna when weather is decent. But, if it were me, I'd include a small HP outboard, even if you just plan to add it a little later. Having a 9.9 will make a world of difference around here.

I don't like buffs, mainly because I don't know how to fish without a cigar hanging out of my mouth. So, I wear Columbia PFG hoodies. Not terribly expensive and fairly comfortable even on the hottest days. I run a 1976 Johnson 6 on a jon boat just like yours....I've never clocked it, but it seems about identical to your vid.

I've heard 'newer' zman stuff....the Freedom, Custom, Elite, etc are good lures....the Original just didn't do it for me....could well be that I'd already heard it sucked, and thus never fished it with confidence or consistency....I'd get hits, but never could get a hook driven home. May also have been my rod...or line.....soooo many variables...not the least of which are the ones between my ears

I've shifted from 90/10 spinner to 90/10 chatterbait over the last couple of years. That is due in no small part to a couple of factors: 1. I'm fishing the tidal Potomac a lot and sliding a chatterbait back through that narrow 8-12" window between weed tops and surface is, much of the time, much more effective than any other presentation. 2. My early chatterbait experience was with orig zman, and I never once got a good hook-up with them. Since I've started using @Bluebasser86's chatterbaits, it's a whole new world. 3. Another big change for me was when @00 modsaid to try SKRT Structure Bug as trailer for my chatterbait (and actually, most generously sent me some.) That, and the Culprit-Incredi-Craw are the only trailers I use for bladed jigs anymore. Spinnerbaits still get thrown, but it is more likely dirtier water, deeper water and choppier water that dictates when.

I've switched to shrink tubing. But, there always used to be tons of options on ebay from China. Just gotta watch for shipping costs and time. If you're willing to wait a few weeks, I'd bet you can get hundreds of rings and a tool for less than $10 shipped. Oh yeah...also check the ring sizes...IIRC, some just came as 'assorted' sizes.

I fully respect that you respect them. But, I don't think that YT has ANY responsibility to pay somebody because they did something hard. Even if they bring eyeballs to their channels, few advertisers are going to pony up if its kids watching. I do some stuff that is hard sometimes. But, if I filmed myself doing it and put a video up, I wouldn't be angry if YT didn't want to pay me. You don't have to like the (somewhat) free market, but it helps to understand where the available dollars come from and why they get distributed like they do.

I'd love to hear that solar has improved the past few years. I used to have a 5 watt (I think...maybe 7.5w) panel, but it took most of a week to charge a 1/2 drained, size 27 battery. For maintaining charged batteries, they're probably decent enough, but it was way too slow for me.

The best thing about trying Stren, for me, was that it helped teach me how to identify very high memory, unforgiving, cheap line. Now, I have something to compare better lines to.

Spinnerbaits don't spin all the way around (just the blades.) So, there's no good reason for a swivel, or snap of any kind. Tie your line directly to the bend.

IIRC, Scott Martin has a couple very good vids....one just on rigging and a couple on punching...I learned as much from his as anyone else's

What's a Utube? Kidding of course...but, I admittedly know nothing about any recent changes in advertising for the fishing YT DIY'ers. I do suspect, though, that as an emergent commodity/service, things are going to shift and settle when money is in play. The market will find a way to reward those that produce videos that become 'in demand'. Those that are dismissed by a large segment of the population won't get much (any?) Google is smart and will find a way to move from random matching of advertisers and viewers. Disney commercials will end up on kids' programming...BPS will end up on fishing programming and quality content providers will get compensated. Hopefully, poor content quality providers will not. I never understood the intense negative reaction towards disliked content. No different than TV, or movies, or radio....or any other entertainment medium....if you don't like it, why watch and complain? And if someone else sees fit to pay for that content you dislike...well, more power to the originators. Capitalism is a cool concept.
