kayak hole question
I dunno....I suppose this might be true to some degree. However, I've never considered the need to plug the scupper holes in my Wilderness Tarpon. I think that enough water may have come up once to dampen the bottom of my pant leg at the cuff. I'm not real big, but close to 200 and carry as much as 50# of gear.

Andy Montgomery blew my mind!
Spent much of yesterday on the water working on skipping docks, applying what Andy said/demonstrated in the video above. Two things stand out as having been particularly helpful. First was turning the mag brakes way up.....maybe it was overconfidence, maybe it was just machismo...I'm not sure...but I would never turn my brakes on very high...and seem to admit that my thumb wasn't good enough. But, turning the brakes up to about 3/4 of full made a big difference in my confidence to really toss it under there. Second was the flick of the wrist that looks like skipping a rock. By rolling my wrist 90 degrees (maybe a bit more), I was able to launch the jig close to the water, but with a pretty flat trajectory. I only got in trouble a few times, but nothing too bad....nobody came out with a weapon drawn, or anything

Northern Virginia (Nova) Fishing Discussion/reports
That's crazy, Quanjig. I couldn't buy a bite out there on Saturday. Didn't talk to anyone that could. I will say that yesterday on the Occoquan River was much better.

Northern Virginia (Nova) Fishing Discussion/reports
guess it depends what you're used to....from my perspective, there isn't a whole lot even in mid-summer....and a lot less right now. Maybe a touch surprising, with the warm spells we've had. I was only a couple hours south of here and one lake had June-like grass already.

I pay $11. But....I have motor, batteries, PFD, military discount....and have Fairfax County residency I think you're probably looking at $40...maybe a little more for non-res, boat with motor and battery. I'd give 'em a call: T 703-250-9124 E fountainhead@nvrpa.org

Northern Virginia (Nova) Fishing Discussion/reports
Rented jon boat from Fountainhead on Saturday. Gale winds, inactive bass, and a mud-puddle of a rez made for less than satisfying day. Vis was all about 6 inches. Should be clearing up somewhat by now, though....hopefully

Andy Montgomery blew my mind!
Mastering docks, to me is huge. I'm lousy at finding fish a lot of times. Lots to learn about reading structure, breaks, where bass relate to weed lines, tidal effects, etc. But docks.... Easy to locate and almost always hold fish. When I can present to dock bass that most anglers are missing, I have great days.

fire extinguisher
It would appear not. From: http://www.fishandboat.com/Boat/BoatingRegulations/Documents/BoatingHandbookChapter2.pdf Motorboats less than 26 feet in length, powered by an outboard motor and not carrying passengers for hire are not required to carry fire extinguishers unless they have one or more of the following conditions: • Closed compartments under seats where portable fuel tanks may be stored. • Double bottoms not sealed to the hull or not completely filled with flotation material. Note: Open boats such as jonboats where an after-market solid wood or metal floor is installed and is not com- pletely sealed to the hull are not required to carry a fire extinguisher. • Closed living spaces. • Closed storage compartments in which flammable materials are stowed. • Permanently installed fuel tanks. Shore fishing Nothern Va help???
Welcome. I'm not going to be much help with the shore fishing. I spent some time looking in past years, but with little luck. You can rent boats at a few places, however: Hunting Run, Fountainhead, Pohick, one or more marinas on Anna, Brittle, kayak at Fountainhead or Occoquan Regional park, ....there's a park up from the city on the Potomac that used to rent boats or canoes and kayaks....and one or two others I can't think of at the moment.

Question
I've been fishing just a few years fewer than Catt..... Regrets, I've had a few....But then again, too few to mention But, you know, I remember nearly all of those I lost or likely lost. I appreciate your concern. Don't lose it. But not worth an ulcer, either. Do your best to care for them and you'll be fine...so will the fish.

Firefox
1. I read the pins and the locked topic regarding logins. 2. I do NOT have ads blocking the login/sign-in/sign-up buttons 3. I MAY have ad blockers in place, but I'm not admin and can't change them even if I do I am unable to log in on one of my computers. The buttons (sign-in and sign-up) are not blocked, but both redirect to homepage: bassresource.com...NOT to a sign-in window. Sometimes, I can hunt around and find a different button (not the one in upper left...maybe from a button for flagging or messaging or something else...I don't recall.) So, it is possible to login without changing ad blocking anything, but it is extraordinarily difficult and is NOT a problem for any other site or forum that I've found. Sorry if any find this post duplicative or exasperating, but I believe it is different than the 'button-blocking ad' and other issues. While turning off ****ing software/options MAY work for some; for others it is not an option. Thanks.

How much influence on content, if any, do sponsors to this site have?
I understand and appreciate the humility, Glenn. But, while we here are a bit biased, I truly think that this is one of the most informative, if not THE most informative bass fishing information repositories on the internet. No surprise that those influential to the bass fishing universe would acknowledge and appreciate you and your efforts.

Shad run in VA
Been out on Occoquan river in kayaks 3 of past 4 days. My wife caught a few shad (5, I think was the most on one day.) I only got a perch --- couldn't get a shad bite, so I hit docks and cleaned up on LMB while she fished for shad. Nobody's catching a bunch of shad yet. We're still probably a couple weeks from them getting thick up here.

oops...butting out....I misunderstood and wrongly assumed the nature of the deleted thread. sorry

Regrettably, BR search doesn't do three letter 'words'. If you try google and put "bassresource.com: xtb vs ytb", I'm guessing you'll get closer to where you want to go

I'm sorry I missed that one....In a perverse sort of way, I kinda miss some of the old feuds between them....but I AM a fan of the positive vibes here.....even if I serve to accidentally sabotage them now and again
