  1. I may have jumped the gun. I'm glad he had a good year, but I'm not convinced it was worth it. Is preseason finally over? I haven't watched more than a quarter of a game yet, but there's a few interesting matchups I'd like to see this weekend. And, about a half dozen that you couldn't pay me to watch.
  2. Not only are beavers a huge net positive for bass cover, the bass themselves know the difference between beavers and otters. I have caught bass immediately below swimming beavers. Bass always hang around beaver lodges. But I have never caught a bass when an otter is within 50 yards. Muskrats seem to have similar affect, but I'm less certain.
  3. Sort of...but more accurately it would be like you're in the market for a Malibu, so you go by the Chevy dealer and drive out with ZR1 and put three Camaros on order. Do NOT even browse through the Facebook Swimbait groups unless you've secured a pretty good line of credit
  4. He's Facbook famous. Has a knack for putting DDs in the boat, and for a not insignificant price, he'll put you on them, too. As noted in a different thread, I don't do numbers well....but I seem to recall that he has literally hundreds of 10# plus LMB catches. Seemed to get bored with that and now chases records.
  5. This, too. I subscibe to Neil Young math, "Numbers add up to nothin." Honestly, I can have plenty of fun on a 40-50 fish day. But I only measure my sucess by the biggest, or by tournament standings. I had a one bite per hour day a few months ago. May have been best day of the year.
  6. Same here. Not an exaggeration
  7. Every state finds way to put their own maddening twist on it.
  8. I am thinking they should go a different direction. I fully expect NFL to add a game to regular season. I say add a week to regular season and drop all preseason games. One or two joint practices, then Go!
  9. @QUAKEnSHAKE, my TourS3 is the same. Honestly, I stopped noticing 10 minutes into first trip out with it. Unfortunately, one of my fishing partners HAS to try to mimic the sound, 'ZZZZZZZZZZZ'...every. single. cast. Way more annoying than any reel noise
  10. What odds would I have gotten two weeks ago if I had walked into Caesar's and said "Put $100 on Vikings being only 2-0 team in NFC North" ?
  11. I was reminded of this post this morning. I unexpectedly find myself with an entire weekend to fish. I have my Hobie here which is great. I have plastics and terminal tackle and a few hard baits. Somehow, though, I have just a frog rod and a dropshot rod. Neither is terribly versatile. Going to be interesting. Will attempt to embrace the challenge
  12. I realize you are probably a ways from deciding on a budget, but even very rough number will help shape this conversation. Are we talking $2500 or $95,000?
  13. That sounds pretty unscientific. Try this proven data-gathering method; put an empty coffee can by your washing machine. When you (or your significant other, or mother, or...) find used plastics in the washer tub, put them in the coffee can and track the numbers that way.
  14. 100% worth it to me to have someone else do it. I am not mechanically inclined, nor the least bit dexterous. I have never deep cleaned a reel that worked correctly when I got finished. That said, I bet over half...maybe 3/4 of BR membership are perfectly capable and competent stripping down and deep cleaning their reels. I just don't happen to be one of them.
  15. Also, get yourself a fish grip and tether it to your kayak handle. Then, you can put the fish in the grips and toss it back in the water while you get your board and camera ready. That way, the fish will still be there when you go back for her.
  16. I'm getting spoiled. A good day is multiple 4s. A great day is one 6+. Of course, it is always relative. One Saturday in July I only had five fish on eight bites all day, longest was 18". But it was a great day, since the 58 other competitors had smaller total length (5 fish bag).
  17. @Pat Brown concur with all. I was just very excited to be pulling 4 pounders out of laydowns yesterday. 23# bag without chasing bait all over the lake, fishing the way I want to fish....I was thrilled.
  18. Doldrum switch in NC flipped sometime Saturday night. Got 'em good on wood and points yesterday for first time in months. However, best was another 5+ on Super Spook.
  19. MLF let the Albermarle cat out of the bag
  20. @Tennessee Boy, my assumption has been "I saw the fish on FFS immediately prior to the cast and/or during the cast/retrieve." but, yes...plenty of room to maneuver around that question. sort of like "Were you sight fishing that fish?"
  21. And yet, only yesterday their press release about crappie brakes said nothing about ffs: "There has been a rise in the use of electric motors mounted to shallow water anchors, which makes the enforcement of current rules (like long-lining and trolling) very difficult." They must be back-tracking on the "we don't trust our pros not to troll with them"
  22. Blows my mind that NFL won't offer an ala carte system that let's you buy individual games. Yo ho. Yo ho
  23. I have to think the boat manufacturers are relieved. Not many boats designed for additional hundreds of pounds of weight and 3 or 4 square feet of screen-induced air resistance; all in front few inches of the boat
  24. I do wish they could have found a plain English way to limit the capability instead of proving list of 'authorized transducers'. Could make it more difficult for newer or 'outsider' companies to get a foothold in even legacy sonar
