I don't even try when bass fishing. However, I (and the rest of my family) do it during NW Ontario walleye trips. Problem was that they fly into the boat so fast and furious that we had to improvise our tally process. Settled on using a grease pencil and making tally marks on inside of the boat. Wipe them each day and start over. Almost got to 1500 last trip.

There was a time when I'd drive 4 hours round trip to save $15. But that time was many, many years ago.

Me, too. It probably has something to do with my counting skills....or that I'm focusing on fishing. But, I have a sneaking suspicion that it is my subconscious fishermanbrain that screws up my ability to count.....thereby making a day of 8 or 9 turn into a couple dozen by the time I get home or to the bar.

Why do you ask, BD? Both are well established stores and get a lot of business from many of us. If you have defect problems with rods and/or reels, you'll most likely want to deal with the manufacturers anyway. One big difference is that if you have a GM anywhere near you, then walking in and talking to someone in person might make a difference for you. For me, deciding between the two has little to do with return policies....unless one proves to be a 'problem' for me or others.

Like DVT, I'm a little puzzled by the emphasis on the warranty. My $30K 2015 car has a 3 year warranty. My wife's 2014 $1700 camera came with a 12 month warranty (and is in the shop for its second post-warranty service.) I've broken two rods in nearly 50 years of fishing. One was on day one and the store took it back the same day. The other was only 3 months old....and the break was entirely my own high-sticking fault. (Note: it just happened to be a rod from a 'major' company that was sold with NO warranty....That is one purchase where maybe I should have been paying a little more attention....no warranty may have been for a reason. But I harbor no ill feelings towards the company and would buy one of their other, warranted rods any time.) Just seems to me that if a rod is from a reputable company and doesn't break within first few long days of fishing, it is probably going to be with me for years and I won't ever think about the warranty even if and when it may eventually break.

Put pink and methiolate in the back drawer a long time ago. Never got a bite on either.

I'm NOT trying to be antagonistic, but I am curious....please take no offense...Unless you're committed to a strict sponsor contract, why the compulsion to 'choose' to use only one brand (of rod or reel or anything else?) If it were me, at your age/stage, I think I'd prefer to get a range of brands. I'd get rods from a few different companies now so I can compare personal experiences and preferences long before I get set in my ways and decide to 'settle' for just one.

So, naturally, I open up T.W. and take a look, since I've not used this line. Not content to just carry a braid, a mono and FC. Nope. No less than 19 DIFFERENT Sunline fishing lines... at T.W. alone. In as many as TWENTY different #/spool size combos (Shooter.) There are over one HUNDRED different spools to choose from...just in Sunline....just in FC, mono and braid. My head is spinning

I could probably do OK limiting myself to green pumpkin. That's my confidence plastic color for all conditions. There's one big 'but', though. The major exception is jig trailers. My confidence will take a big hit until I can adjust to the loss of my beloved black and blue.

Green. 90+% of the time. I've had rare, intermittent success with pearl dipped in green JJ's, but green does the trick almost all the time. Pumpkin or watermelon....with or without flakes...doesn't seem to matter much. In my mind, flukes are about the weightless action and colors matter little.

I fully intend to. I have a lot of irons in the fire at the moment, but I'm doing everything I can to keep that day open. Looking forward to it.

I haven't seen the rez yet, but I drive across the O River a dozen times a week and I think about your comment every single time...still cracks me up....and still accurate as far as the river is concerned. I know full well that the tidal Potomac and the Occoquan rez are two entirely different animals, but.....the air temps are the same and the weather is comparable.....but I'll tell you that the Potomac bass are moving up and are hungry

I want to shout out to A-Jay. Made my first casts of the year yesterday using blade baits (with which I've previously had little success.) Using what I learned here, I caught good fish from the first cast. I only had about 30 min of fishing off a pier on the way home from work, but they were hitting it pretty hard.

Looks like that weekend is open for me. Would love to meet up. I'll be fishing one way or another.....If not on the rez that weekend, I'll put the kayak in on Occoquan River and see if the shad have run up yet BTW, the Capital Weather Gang just emailed me: "We declare winter over and spring here, effective today"

I like the handle as well. I especially like it for kayak use. The shorter-than-usual butt makes casting from seated position with a pfd a breeze.

Thinking about it. Leaning towards Pohick, however. Maybe both. Don't think Fountainhead is open til the 1st? As long is BRM is not hard water and not too muddy, it might be worth a shot.

I tried to get the multiple rod discount with different rods and was rejected. I was buying a Mojo glass and a second Rage, and was told 'no dice'. But, I think the original poster of that deal said it was for two Rages, so its certainly worth asking.

But don't try to search "bed fish"....three letter words don't play in the BR search engine. ....you might try 'bedding' or using google to search BR pages

Got it figured out. Thanks. Doing as you suggest brings up every thread with the word in content and in titles, of course. I'd been trying to filter out those threads that don't have it in title, but I've now found it. After the search completes, there's a clickable link for "xyz in titles only", which I'd missed previously.

Sure, it can work. I used it for a time. But, I MUCH prefer braid.
