Mountain fly trip
Thanks all! Paul, if I was living back in Colorado (which I might go ahead and do) I wouldn't bother bass fishing! Northerns, Muskies, and high country natives would occupy my life I think. Plus I miss shooting Elk!

Mountain fly trip
I'm not. But I'm learning. Just a great break from all the crowds, heat, and monotony of summer time bass fishing. I'll get back to bass fishing for about a month and a half next month, then I think its gonna be stripers, steelhead and trout until february. This year round bassfishing that i have been doing got old!

Mountain fly trip
Well I have only bass fished three times since the beginning of July, so I thought id throw a report up of the fishing I have been doing. Left about 9am wednesday with my girlfriend for the Tahoe area for two days on a fly fishin mission. Started out at Red Lake and caught a nice ~13" brook trout, lost another similar sized one at the bank, and missed a couple. There was a huge algae bloom and it was very windy so we headed up the hill to Woods Lake. A few rises and small cruising brookies with only one unlanded bite on a midge nymph/indicator rig. Said f that and headed back down to Wrights Lake where I knew the fishing would be easier and wind wouldnt be so much of a problem in the morning and evenings at least. Arrived at dusk to a gorgeous sunset on the mountains in the Desolation Wilderness and fish rising all over. Waded out to a cool casting rock and had a hook jawed brown trout around 15 inches hooked up and landed and I missed three or 4 more on tiny size 22 dries with 2lb tippet. Woke up in the morning to very little surface activity which I found odd, worked hard for about an hour and a half with only two missed bites to show for it. Went and woke up my girl and inquired whether she would enjoy a hike. She foolishly said yes. . Packed up camp and made a quick drive to the trailhead. Our target was Twin Lakes in the Desolation Wilderness. It is a 6 mile roundtrip hike with 1200 vertical feet of altitude gain. Pretty rugged country. Found this little spring pool with a couple 6 inch fish in it on the way up After an hour and forty five minutes we made it to the lower lake after much whining and near puss outery from my girl. What a breathtaking place! So is the upper lake which is mere feet above the first, kind of a weird reverse infinity pool effect while standing at the lower lake with the upper one at below eye level. I found the fishing for little brookies to be pretty easy and exciting on dry flies. You could watch them appear from the bottom in 10+ feet of water to rocket up and smack the fly. Many many misses and about 10 or so of these little dudes before we made the trip back out. Lot of fun, havent done something like this since i was about 14!

Guard your secret baits.....
I would be willing to bet that I have baits that catch me fish that nobody on this site has Raul. There absolutely are baits so under appreciated or rare that the should receive the status of secret bait. I'm with the other posters in the fact that I will not flat out lie about what I am catching them on....unless it is a swimbait. If I am at the lake and anybody asks me if I am catching anything, I always say no. The absolute funniest example of this was this year fishing with JUST, had a trout fisherman troll by the offshore ridge I was fishing and he saw my bait. Him:"You ever catch anything on those?" Me:"Never". At that precise moment I set the hook on a 10lb10oz fish that he watched all the way to the scale... he didnt say anything

^^^^^^ CHECK IT OUT ^^^^^^ <------
I am no longer going to open threads which I feel have had their title constructed to garner more views, like this one. How about making a concise title that foreshadows the post to follow? I mean, however sad a state it may be in, I have a life. I don't want to read every thread on here. I skim; I look for threads whose titles suggest humor/interest/relevence. Basically the ones that dont suck. When I see something annoyingly vague titled and in all caps with asinine symbols all over them like they were constructed by a chimp with diarrhea, I want to scream. Up until this point, my curiosity would often get the best of me because I would use the theory that it must be really funny/important/interesting/relevant, so the OP made it even easier to find! Finally after months of tireless research, I have determined that 94.723% of the time these threads are in big letters and gaudily bedecked with symbols only to mask their suckiness. For all humorous/interesting/important/ and relevant threads, please follow the following guidelines to garner the attention of those of us who are not interested in interpreting your hieroglyphic thread titles: Capitalize in Heading and Title: * First and last word * Nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives * Subordinating conjunctions (for example: before, after, when...) * Hyphenated compound words * First word following a colon Do Not Capitalize: * Articles (a, an, the) * Coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or, nor, so) * The word 'to' when it precedes a verb * Prepositions with fewer than five letters. There is a second thread title option that I would now like to discuss. For people, who like myself, are concerned with only the content of the thread, try this: leave everything in lowercase letters omitting all symbols including arguably proper ones such as apostrophes and hyphens. Furthermore, no real punctuation is necessary excepting in the rarest and most interesting of occasions... the exclamation point. Should my next study reveal that the exclamation point is being overused it shall be summarily added to my do not open list. At this juncture I would like your attention to be directed above. In the previous paragraph you will likely notice a very interesting jewell of the literary world, denoted by three consecutive periods. This is called an ellipsis. Historically used to indicate missing text, it is more informally used to denote a pause in the speech of the writer. While I find this a great tool to relay comedic timing, or for generally dramatic effect, it has sadly fallen to the realm of the incompetent. The ellipsis is a precious commodity of our great language, please refrain from misusing this great literary tool and also attempt to limit its frequency within a post. Too many of these pauses will make you seem a dolt to your learned audience. Thank you for your time, Fourbizz Director of Pet Peeve Research Crotchety University

Looking to get an airbrush setup.
I have the Iwata HPC+ and it is awesome. I will second the general "bigger the better" idea in lucky's post. Unless its in the house, a nice 3-10 gallon compressor would be sweet. After ruining my THIRD airbush compressor, I moved my paint booth out of my fishing room and set up a workstation in the garage. The 110 gallon compressor makes things a bit easier, lol.

Powell rod owners???
They are a bit tip heavy, especially the 7'0 and 7'3 casting models. I have a 702ml, 704C, and a 734C. Good rods for the money, in fact at the the new price point (130-170) they are the best in that range imo. You might consider looking into one of the 6'8" if you want to lean away from a tip heavy rod, or a 7' IMX or GLX.
