  1. I assume you celebrated by doing one pull-up for each year of ago. Happy birthday!
  2. My thoughts too. I think you get a better, salt-tolerant spinning reel at the $100 price point than you do casting. Daiwa BG and Shimano Nasci are worthy of a closer look.
  3. It may be worth checking out the Champion XP 744c as well. The Champion 704 and 734 I have are very good rods but I find them better for moving lures. Dobyns responded by adding a 744 to their Champion line, which I'm told has a faster action better suited to "feel" techniques.
  4. My setups for this include 3-power Dobyns casting rods w/ G2 Revo Premiers and a M/F Kistler KLX spinning rod w/ Stradic 2500
  5. I had a rare opportunity to get out on my boat today so I certainly took advantage of it. I hit one of the electric-only reservoirs south of ATL that I've fished a good bit to see what I could figure out. I only got three to the boat, but two of them were over 5.5 lbs A @Siebert Outdoors jig in a custom color was responsible for two of the fish, and a caffeine shad the other. Man, the two jig bites were fierce! Too bad I couldn't locate any other spots that were similar to see if it was a pattern. I think I'm gonna start replacing my flukes with the caffeine shad. I really like the castabillty and the swimming action!
  6. And there's also the chance that you wouldn't see your camo green line swimming away, resulted in a lost fish that way too. If this is a concern, then try the advice above -- a bright braid that you color the last 10 feet or so with a black or green permanent marker.
  7. You're really overthinking this i would say say that any casting distance difference that may exist between any of the reels suggested will be totally negligible, and not noticeable in practical fishing situations.
  8. Ok so I've watched this thread go on for a while without chiming in... I'm the original owner of the rod in question. While I'm sure it's the case that there are some dishonest sellers on the internet but I'm not one of them The duration of my ownership of that rod was removing it from the tube Dobyns mailed it in, putting it on the rod rack in my fishin' room, then removing it from my rod rack to ship it to Wagster. The rod never even took a boat ride or made a cast in the yard. The Dobyns replacement policy is still in effect even though he's not the original owner. Its absolutely unfortunate that the rod broke but I stand by the info I gave about the rod's history. I know no one was inappropriately finger-pointing but I wanted to add my 2 cents.
  9. If I lived on the coast in Florida, I'd quickly forget what a largemouth bass even was. Fishing the salt is ADDICTIVE!
  10. Actually I do remember seeing that video and thinking that he was overestimating those fish a bit
  11. Say you've got room for a single 3700-sized box to fill to fish ponds. No particular location, climate, water type. How would you fill it?
  12. I'd love to see those videos from HHP as I haven't been able to find anything bigger than 4 lbs in there! and I'll definitely agree on the "hot" part. I was on HHI this week and it was brutal.
  13. Can't get any pics since I'm not at home but I can say that both my 703c Revo Premier combo and my 744 Extreme HP Tatula SV both balance at the locking nut
  14. The weight of the senkos may overwhelm the 702 so check out the 703 i actually have a brand new with tags Champion Extreme HP 703s that I need to sell if you're interested
  15. Congrats Raiders fans -- your stadium hotdog just went up a dollar.
  16. I think Randall gave up the guiding game to focus on his swimbait biz. I'm not fishing it nearly as much, but that has more to do with having 3 kids 6 and under. But I think it's safe to say it's not spitting out the giant bass the way it did in the past.
  17. Remember all the grass it used to have? Yeah, it's just about all gone now...
  18. This isn't first hand knowledge, but I recall reading in several places that folks can't tell the difference, that the blanks were the same and only the grips and guides somewhat different. Summary was that the Zillion wasn't worth the higher price. In your price range, I'd suggest you look at St Croix Avids/Avid X or Kistler KLX.
  19. Yes The Owner Light Twist-lock 3/32 weighted 4/0 hook is tied on one of my rods 90%+ of the time. Senko, fluke, rage craw, etc.
  20. What I was looking for, and pretty much what i assumed. Thanks!
  21. Can anyone translate the power of a Kistler "light MH" to what it most closely compares to in the Dobyns line? I'm considering picking on up sight unseen but trying to better understand the power. Most of my rods are Dobyns, which is why I'm asking it this way
