Can anyone translate the power of a Kistler "light MH" to what it most closely compares to in the Dobyns line? I'm considering picking on up sight unseen but trying to better understand the power. Most of my rods are Dobyns, which is why I'm asking it this way

If you're using an ultra light combo, I'd focus on ultra light lures. To me, that eliminates crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, silver minnow and a few others. if it were me, I'd choose beetle spin, rooster tails, 2-3 inch grubs on 1/8 oz jigheads, roadrunners or a small rapala floating minnow. And of course the bobber and bait option as well

I've had the same thought that these things seem like they could be REALLY effective on Baccarac!

Recently grabbed myself a few wobble heads, a technique I've never fished before. For those more experienced with these rigs - are these a "feel" technique or a reaction presentation? Sure looks like it would be feel to me but I've seen enough comments about "fishing them like a crank bait" to make me ask.

No idea what they are, how big they get or their habitat so hard to say. With that said, I tend to think that selecting the right leader to add to your braid gives lots of versatility.

I'd go with the 4000 with 15 lb braid

There seems to be a growing trend among the inshore guys to replace treble hooks on their hardbaits with single inline hooks. I just did this on a handful of my inshore baits but haven't actually fished them yet. Has anyone tried this for any of their bass lures? If so, how'd it work out?

Negative, ghost rider. I guess I will examine the knot, but like I said it's the same knot I've used on straight fluoro. And the fluoro I'm using on the leader material is multiple weights of both Sniper and Berkley, neither of which gave me any knot problems when I used those lines straight. Regardless, the braid is off at least for now, and was replaced with straight 14 lb Sniper. Let's see what happens Thanks for the feedback everyone.

After years of fishing, I recently treated myself to my first Loomis GLX. I am enjoying it, but I've had multiple break-offs at the hook knot since I started using it, and I literally cannot remember the last time that happened to me on any other rods (normally fast-action rods with fluoro or braid w/ leader). The rod is the GLX 853c that I'm using for bottom contact presentations. It's paired with the super-fast Daiwa SV103XSL and 30-lb braid w/ fluoro leader. The hook knot breaking is happening across several different fluoro brands and sizes, so I think I can safely say it's not a bad batch of fluoro. I'm thinking that the ridiculous reel speed + extra-fast action + zero-stretch braid is just leaving me with very little "give" anywhere, and is resulting in my break-offs but wanted to get some perspective from this crowd. Does anyone else combine those three factors? If so, do you have the same experience, or did you have to adjust your hook-setting style to adapt to a rig set up like this? I may swap out the braid for straight fluoro just to compare...

I've got both the Tidemaster MF one piece spinning rod and three-piece travel casting version. Spinning version is one piece of my SE+Gulfcoast inshore spinning arsenal and the travel casting rod was purchased specifically for my bass trip to Baccarac a few years back. Net net -- I think the Tidemaster MF will suit your needs nicely. Just be forewarned that even though St Croix rates it as fast action, I'd say it is more moderate than what a bass fisherman would expect out of a rod labelled as fast. But it's still serves my purposes just fine.

Once you get the feel of things, make a cast. Then peel off another 10-20 yards of line and put a piece of electrical tape for the remaining line on the spool. If you get a backlash it would only go as far as the tape so hat makes it easier to pick them out
