  1. Rinse the rod and reel down with fresh water after each day of fishing in the salt. Have the reel professionally cleaned once a year.
  2. For me -- snaps for walking baits, tie direct for poppers.
  3. Not sure what your price range is, but if I was looking for a 2-piece do-it-all, I'd look at the St Croix Avid X. They have both 6'6" and 7' M offered in two-piece
  4. One more than I currently have.
  5. So you got Lake already. How about Reservoir?
  6. Yes, 10 lb CX Premium will do just fine on a 2500. That's how I used to fish my jerkbaits
  7. Quite an accomplishment! I got my first red/trout/flounder slam last year. Gonna give the tarpon/bone/permit slam a shot in July in Key West -- then again I've never caught a bone or permit yet so perhaps I'm being a bit ambitious. Oh well, we'll see!
  8. Why limit yourself to freshwater rods? I like St Croix Tidemasters for my inshore fishing.
  9. Slave labor from your spouse is part of the deal Expecting your friends to wait on you hand and foot so you feel special is an entirely different animal.
  10. I dunno... This doesn't sound so much like a wedding thing as much as your friend treating her friends/family as free labor. You can actually throw or attend a nice, fun wedding which doesn't have the slave labor thing
  11. I just happened to handle one of these yesterday at Cabelas. Totally random that I ended up standing there but I picked one up and I was shocked at how good it felt in hand. Now of course lots of rods feel great in the store, but this one caught my attention somehow with how light it seemed in hand.
  12. I hate you for posting this. My wife's gonna kill me when I bring this up...
  13. The tequila shot and the drop shot are two different techniques
  14. Jeff, come on. When the conditions get calm like that, you gotta throw finesse. Didn't you have your drop shot rig with you?
  15. Rattle-headed copper moccasin. Run!
  16. IIRC, snook took some time away from fishing for medical issues.
  17. windex w/ vinegar
  18. Hey guys, I know a few months back I came across a website or a screenshot of a quick start settings guide for Humminbird units but I haven't been able to find it since. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, might someone be able to direct me to this for the HB 898? Thanks in advance!
  19. You must have forgotten to send me the big box o' fresh halibut fillets
  20. Mechanically the reel would handle it just fine. But you start getting into line manageability issues if you try to use too thick a line on a small spinning reel.
  21. The basic ned rig concept of a jig head + plastic will work great, but I'd strongly recommend you beef up the hardware. I think those saltwater critters would bend out one of the hooks normally found on a ned rig jighead quite easily. As far as bass techniques that would work in the salt: topwater, hard and soft jerkbaits, jighead + plastic, jighead + swimbait, spinnerbaits and spoons.
  22. To each his own, but I tried fluoro on my cranking rods. Full disclaimer: I don't crank that much, but I didn't see any benefit from fluoro with this technique. I'm not shy about spending my money on good equipment (and my wife will attest to that...), but mono/copoly does just fine for me here. And the added benefit is that my cranking combo becomes more versatile since I can throw topwater baits with mono.
  23. In that price range, I think BPS combos are worth a look.
  24. Dude -- it's the internet. That's what we're here for
