  1. Mepps plain and with. Great for smallies at river I fish in. Sizes 3 and 4. 5's at times which get bonus size bass and occasional northern and muskie. Gotta have em around.
  2. I have both myself. Love the 6'8" mxf for the drop shot, that's all its used for. Real soft tip but handles well when hooking onto some. Crucial mh 7' is used with weightless worm, t-rigging, flukes and spinnerbaits at times. Good purpose rod. I'd get it if you asked me. If you liked the other Crucial this one shouldn't be bad either.
  3. Had been a while since I had kept up with my bass fishing equipment. So I stocked up with: Lowrance HDS 9 Touch Dobyns dx744 Shimano Ci4 Shimano Chonarch 200e7 Shimano Curado 200I PG Stocked up on plenty of jerkbaits, square bills, jigs, restock on some plastics and medium diving cranks. Still need to get Dobyns 705CB and lowrance hds 7 touch, which was to be bought to begin with. Oh yes, need to add some smaller version lipless rattle baits. This does not include some of the muskie lures I had added as well. Just a small amount though. The thing that amazes me is my wife see's some of this but does not have a clue on the total amount I've spent. :)
  4. Know I've seen questions about flourocarbon line thoughts and recommendations recently. My curiosity is to see if anyone has used P-Line's Halo line and hear comments on this one. Been using their FlouroClear because of the price, in the past few years and hhaven'tseen any negatives with it. Tend to try to use one specific line for all set ups and am looking to try this line this year. Looking for it to be limper, strong with knots and easy to cast with. Know there are some that tend to be a little stiff and and can curl up.
  5. Deja vu. Have a Crucial 6'6" MF baitcaster which I tend to use for jerkbaits. Along with topwater and smaller cranks when at local river. St Croix 6'8" MXF spinning rod is my other jerkbait rod choice. Feels a little stiffer but does good for this technique for me and is used a higher percentage of the time. Use 8# flouro on spinning reel and 10 # rod on Crucial casting rod.
  6. Mine are either a Shimano Crucial 6'6" Med fast and St Croix Avid 6'8" MF. Use lighter jerks on Crucial. Like shorter rod as others mentioned in not being restricted with rod position. Downward sweep. St Croix is sweet as well. Can't wait for the spring smallies
  7. I'm a Surgical Assistant for an Orthopedic surgeon. There's nothing better than to be on the water and escape after endless hours of work. Of course with permission from the wife and the allowance she gives me..
  8. KVD just dominated all the way. Enjoy watching him always. They had mentioned his moving around and learning key spots that could be winners when the moment was right. And the sun did come out and thats all she wrote. Done Noticed the spinnerbait size and took a second or two before he would start burning it.
  9. Welcome to BR. This is definitely a good site for following up on whats new and happening. As well as Q&A's. I was stationed by Frankfurt for some time and I cant tell you how many times I would see a river and wonder if one could fish it. Heard of zander being good which is related to walleye. Anyways welcome and trinken das bieren mein freund.
  10. Everything should communicate via NMEA connection when connected in that manner and with compatible connectors.
  11. Majority of the time I use Palomar knot. Spinnerbaits use Trilene Knot and at times will use loop knot when tying direct to lure without split ring.
  12. Boy, I'm glad I saw this notice On this forum Just ordered a Chronarch for myself Now we just gotta get this winter season out of here....
  13. You'll be hearing many suggestions like checking livewell hoses & vavles to possible backsplash having water leak in if sealed with caulk. Filling boat with water and checking for leaks. Hope you do find something easily. Have a Tundra which had water leak. Drove me crazy. Finally rechecked everything from top to bottom again. Then the worst was found - corrosion along port side of hull. Now I have to take it to Missouri hoping they will do a proper repair job. Right now Tracker is not my choice for any future boat. Wish you the best.....Good luck.
  14. Good to see another person from the area. Still somewhat new here and has been nothing but great here. Good folk all around. Dave
  15. Well wondering which rod to buy. This has come down to the Dobyns Champion 705CB or the Champion 705 Glass. Mainly for shallow, jerkbait and medium depth lures. Will get majority consensus from this to help with decision. Have noticed from past that glass rod is a good choice but with me never having used one I just want to have clarification. Thanks Dave
  16. Wanting to get a feel on these Cashion rods and having micro guides on rods. Looking for crankbait rod and been eyeing a Dobyns. Know theres different opinions on both.
  17. Stopped by at Schaumburg show. Not bad. Talked to plenty of reps about there products. Found some jerkbaits and medium sized cranks. Price shop first although most didn't carry to much of a selection with certain brands or choice of colors. Will be going back since im not finished. Have some kind of problem and that's not having enough lures. See ya'll there Oh yeah.....The Man - KVD
  18. You could most likely find a Calcutta 400B at 150.00 TYD. Could get you started at least. Dependable reel.
  19. I use my 6'8" Avid med/xfast action St Croix paired w/ Shimano Stradic 2500 spooled with 8# PLine. Last year I was trying 20# Braid and 10# leader. Was so so, not use to fishig braid on spinning gear. Guess I have to get used to it. I'm one to always use as light of line as I can get away with. Generally catching Smallies with this technique. Use Smithwick and LC jerkbaits.
  20. Other than Musky show this is one I've been anxious to attend. Curious as to what most of you are looking to add or resupply yourself with for upcoming season. Maybe get an idea of what is commonly used around this area. As for me im focusing on jigs and plastics. Usually fish Lk Geneva, Delavan and Fox River for a quicky since it's blocks away.
  21. Used the Boomerang Tool while fishing with someone last season and at the of the day I was convinced that I needed one. Now I have 3, one in my boat and others in tackle bags. Best cutters I've had.
  22. Just ccurious with the tension issue. Wondering what reel and if it may be tension spacer being worn.
  23. Well guess I have to apologize for not introducing myself when signing up. Growing up in Texas and fishing as a kid with lline on a bottle to my first Zebco combo. Relocated to illinois after the Army to be with my father who was fishing in the area. Well like most all here I love to fish, fish and fish. Starts with walleye in early spring when ice starts breaking away to bass with the warming trend and from there on anything goes, even Muskies. Always learning and soaking everything and this sight is helping alot. Glad to be here. Fish on my friends, Dave
  24. Jerkbait, rattle trap, tubes, grubs, spinnerbait, finesse jigs and cranks. Rapala jointed shad raps, grubs and rebel craws for my local river fishin'
