  1. Outboard Mechanic needed - Lake County, IL SE Wis 1986 Mercury 75hp Hopefully some of you IL guys can help me out here. I bought a boat from a friend and cleaned out the carbs, new fuel pump diaphragm, new fuel lines and filter as well as a complete lower unit rebuild (seals leaking). I am having one hell of a time getting it to idle correctly. I cannot get it to idle below 1,700rpms. I have done a link and sync but am stuck getting a good idle going. It either stays put at 1,700 or gradually revs up to around 2,500rpms. I have dissected this manual twelve ways from Sunday with no difference. All adjustment specs are spot on to the manual but I just can't get the idle down. I would like to stay away from Bass Pro Service center and Skipper Buds. I would prefer a mechanic who can take the time to show me or one who does work on the side as I enjoy anything with a motor and tend to think I am handy with a wrench.
  2. A little jb weld and you should be back in business.
  3. 1/8 oz bullet weight t-rigged on a 4/0 ewg.
  4. I have an ATI officers model that is imported to the USA. I like the feel but have had a few minor issues that I am currently working on. I had a chance to play around with an STI Spartan and really like it. They seem to get great reviews online from pretty much everyone. The Rock Island is another Philippine made pistol. I have heard great reviews...mostly because of the price point. Many people tend to change out the slide stops and safeties.
  5. What helped me was to max out the brake settings and use a heavy weight. After a few casts, I would then turn the brakes down a little bit until I was even more comfortable. After a few of those, I started to get a handle on how it operated. The biggest thing for me was using my thumb correctly.
  6. Chart/Shad BLK/BL
  7. I am hoping that someone can help me. I lost spark to my motor, replaced that switch box to no avail. Continued with diagnostics by disconnecting a black/yellow wire and now spark is back. This tells me that there is a short somewhere is the stop circuitry. I replaced the key switch and starter solenoid. The kill switch seems to be working. Manual says to look at a stop switch. I cannot find it anywhere in my manual. Is this the same as the kill switch? Any help is much appreciated.
  8. 1/8oz bullet sinker, 4/0-5/0 EWG and a flippin' tube
  9. I just ordered a SELOC for my Mercury. It looks like it does a decent job of explaining things. For my cars, I use Clymer because they are cheaper. I do have a few old sets of Chiltons laying around from my dad's mechanic days.
  10. It is sad when this is what is deterring quality teachers from this field. I am currently in the "rethink" mode of my career even though I love what I do.
  11. When I took the content test (k-9 education), it was all pretty straight forward stuff. There was nothing too complicated in it. I, like you, went into it being a train wreck and came out just fine. Granted this was 10 years ago, but I am sure it will be fine.
  12. I am a huge Cub fan and my class last year gave me tickets and a tour of Wrigley.
  13. I use 12lb Trilene BigGame
  14. Rippin rap orange bottom and demon scatter rap are my best producers thus far in 2014.
  15. I am only keeping my roboworms in shallow plano boxes. I saw a video with Aaron Martens and I thought I would try it. I don't nearly have as many colors as him but it leaves room for my dropshot hooks, weights and shakey head to fit with the worms.
  16. How about "The Irish"...jig! "Just make it dance."
  17. I normal have 0-2 Centrifugal brakes on my other reels and then adjust the mags/tension knobs with no issues. This TP I have all four centrifugal brakes on plus mags set to 4-5 then the tension knob is extremely touchy. I like the reel overall but dialing it in is ticking me off.
  18. Given that your in NY, it is probably like IL were you need a title for the boat or trailer to register. It is looking like you need proof of ownership (i.e. title?) from this NY DNR form: http://dmv.ny.gov/forms/boats.pdf
  19. I live in the Harbor and try to fish Sterling Lake at Van Patten even though it doesn't produce for me. You ever fish there? Tips?
  20. Thanks man. My uncle was telling me the same things about boaters and traffic. he actually advised me to not go on the chain. He said my time was better spent taking a drive into WI for Silver Lake and Delevan. He refuses to fish anywhere around here because of the people. He is strictly a north woods traveler and some trips south.
  21. Got one last week from Ron at Valley. It is a very nice reel but very touchy to adjustments. Any one else have a hard time getting one dialed in? Never had issues with my BB1 or PQs.
  22. Thanks guys. Where would the best place to get this sticker be? My lazy butt doesn't want to google right now.
  23. Walmart used to sell them in the golf section. Not sure if they still do or not.
  24. I had a similar issue and found out the fuel pump diaphram had a hole in it. It would play the starved for fuel to flooding symptoms. Just something to keep in mind.
