If its XT, it is stiff, similar to Yozuri Hybrid.. Then it's going to take more practice like JF said, a softer line will help also like goti said... Try throwing a 1/2 bell or bank sinker or a old jig it will help you're learning. Practice & Best wishes..

Boil them in water, started that a long time ago.. It's been a good thing.. Straightens up plastics & defiantly softens them. I never read it or heard it. It just seemed logical. Some guys lately I have heard, microwave them! Oh the softening of the plastics was a nice surprise & not expected.

Uh, sounds like you may have spooled wrong.. Mono is easier to learn than braid, imo.. It's stiffer line, ( depending on formula ) It's just a guess, but that's my guess.

They are useful on the right water type, before I had decent electronics I would use a Bagley Dredge in the river channels and locate brush piles etc...

Personally I like shallow spools on certain reels, if you have the greenbacks, I say, why not? Shoot Hooligan a pm, he can tell ya the merits on aftermarket shimano spools!

You can also throw Trig's , senkos, or jigs.. There is a mechanical advantage in these reels which work extremely well for high resistance rigs, whether it is artificial or Live/ cut/ dead bait rigs. I own both, higher ipt/ low ipt.. Almost nothing in between. Works well enough for me.
