I like the fight? Do you?
Pound for pound around here nothing fights, resist quite like a Bluegill or Redear.. and yes I have gear to exploit that 😁

Hmm, are you sure you didn’t write for Field & Stream magazine? 🤣😂🤣

The new Shimano Teramar
Idk, that’s predominantly a saltwater rod, but I’m thinking you’re gonna be good. I don’t have that rod now but I’ve had them in the past. Solid stix. Currently I’m using the Grappler series as well as IMX pro blue. Put on a bait and go throw it.. then you’ll have a better understanding.

The live tournament is different from the past where the tournaments were videotaped, edited then a 50 minute show aired on the Outdoor channel etc.. that was a better presentation in my opinion.

What's your 1 lure/2 color choice?
I use the 7” powerbait here in motor oil.. I been using motor oil since I discovered some guy in a bait shop selling his home made worms in a sandwich bag , back in 77 lol as I recall 20 for 2 bucks. Killer color for me but often hard to find.

Rod/reel combo for Strolling
I can always count on you for reminding me of the history of our sport, & I’m not being smart. I learned a lot as a kid fishing creeks, ponds, small rivers, took what we learned and applied that to BASS bigger waters. Then BASS MASTER magazine came out, more ideals. Then by about 84 or so IN Fisherman magazine was out. Way more exact rigging methods shown, many from the northern fisherman but also from the west. There isn’t much that is truly new, oh sure baits etc different spins on old methods etc. but mostly just someone thinking they have discovered something no one else ever has. The real advances in our sport is in the electronic sector. Swim baits etc

Thank you, Mike Iaconelli.
It’s unbearable for me too, last year it was hot but we had multiple weeks of Canadian wildfire smoke, it was terrible.

Thank you, Mike Iaconelli.
Well I’m in Southern Indiana and it’s been crazy cool here for about 5 days. Last night was 48. But the heat returns tomorrow thru next week. Be back to upper 90’s.

Thank you, Mike Iaconelli.
You always do well. Nice pictures as usual, I have a question, seeing that orange rod. Is that a SC Legend tournament glass? If so, is it the 7’ mm model? lol if it is how do you like it? I have the aforementioned rod but haven’t used it much, I’ve got a 4000 size Shimano CI4+ reel I could throw on it and try it but I dunno lol Maybe throw 1/4 speed traps, lighter crank baits or something..

Retirement...who is next?
Somebody was using cameras during the last event I’m pretty sure I heard.. Is that a thing also with the elite guys? MLF ?

Retirement...who is next?
Hey now.. I get an opinion too lol Nothing farcical about it honestly, but this isn’t Major League Baseball or the NFL. So my only point really is simple the ideal about seeing fish live and or chasing them around on a lake isn’t at all indicative of an Elite angler. The only thing it proves is the technology. It doesn’t prove they are a great/elite fisherman. Anybody that thinks FFS is hard hasn’t tried it. It’s so easy even young teenagers can learn it. See a fish, chase it down and keep casting you’ll catch them… but imo it’s ruining the sport as it once was even just a few short years ago. If you want to disagree, you’re entitled to do that. Do I think it’s going away? Nope. But I’ll be thrilled if it does. The most athletic thing I’ve seen all year in fishing was watching Johnston fish in 8 foot seas. That dude was bad ass in this tournament and deserved to win, FFS aside. Let them ditch the cheater box (lol)and see them figure out a pattern, or maybe a multi faceted pattern over 4 days like they did many years ago. You'll find out who’s Elite then. No worries though, I’m just going to keep fishing the way I always have and will catch them without FFS. 😂 I love the sport in its simplest form, but that’s just me.

Exactly, I watched Trey chase a big ole female that was cruising by and followed her ,saw where she stopped then caught her. Lake Fork.

It's not exactly whether or not someone can learn FFS, but whether or not it actually determines an elite series angler. Let’s flip the coin here, let’s see any of these guys develop a pattern without FFS, how about a multiple pattern plan concerning perhaps every day of every tournament. I would love to see that happen.. Just because an 18 yo masters the technology doesn’t make him an elite angler/athlete it makes him a one dimensional fisherman. A FFS fisherman.

I hear ya. I’ve made up my mind about FFS. As far as the brothers are concerned, not at all a fan. Won’t get into it here on this post but I’ve watched it all year and I think the technology is amazing.. but not on the elite series tournament's. As far as FFS in the sport, I’ve decided against it. As the old saying goes, pick a side , any side. But this year has got to be the most problematic I’ve ever seen in the history of the sport, and honestly it starts at the top down (BASS) Trip Weldon wouldn’t tolerate a lot of these angler’s behavior in this past season.. no way would he allow CZ and his behavior towards a weekend angler stand, no way. At anyrate it will be telling what other fisherman retire, or what ruling BASS will make. I don’t believe it’s going away though. Another old saying: You create your own monster. BASS there ya go, my opinion 😉

Right. My mistake I shouldn’t post before coffee lol. He was doing very well to begin with on Harris.. in the aforementioned area. Was that a TAA tournament? Got the Black Rifle Coffee going fellas, Sasquatch flavor 🤪

A Pro Angler Voices Concerns About FFS
Oh you mean on Harris? That area is a known community hole that sports very clear water and he was sight fishing bedding females. But yea, he won.. As far as the cheater box (lol) I have no ideal what BASS will or will not do but I’m certain that half the audience will still be angry 😂🤣

Retirement...who is next?
Yep and I know this is true but I’m still torn from a OG view of the sport. Nontheless, Johnston more than won that tournament, the dude fished in 8 foot seas, puked and was seasick. So it wasn’t just FFS that won that but grit, toughness plus ability and those are definitely OG characteristics..

Retirement...who is next?
You know it’s crazy because all these guys are OG fishermen, I mean as OG as it can get and based off the newest technique , FFS. The sport has always been interesting to follow for me however this year has just been vastly different. I’ve seen parts of all 10 events but I will say it’s not very electric to view. I think it was @AlabamaSpothunter that said there was a big shift coming in the sport and I think you’re alluding to that as well. But I’m pretty certain there is little we can do to stop the trend. FFS it seems has become the latest and greatest technique. Appreciate the info on where the anglers stand.

Bernie is a cool dude but he’s consistently around 100th place every tournament.. idk what’s up with that. It’s already vastly different even this year.. idk, if the last remaining og guys are out.. and if Davy Hite stops. I guess that will be it for me too.

Shimano Crank Bait casting reel recommendations please!
I’m using a 7’ Loomis IMX Pro blue rod with a 22 Bantam on it. Rod is a heavy/moderate fast. 6.2:1 on the reel. I mostly just do surface to about 8 feet. Sometimes I’ll dig to 14 but generally I just squarebill fish with it. Oh, Yo Hybrid or Pline generally 8 to 10 but I will throw 12 too.
