Much clearer here today. Only a slight campfire smell in the air. Wasn’t coughing up a lung today while mowing either. But it’s supposed to get bad again with hardly any wind over the weekend so I’m taking the weekend off. Gonna do some fishing, but not mowing.

They’ve been postponing MLB games due to air quality for months? I must have missed that. The last couple days are the first time I’ve seen games postponed due to air quality this season.

Good part about working for myself is that when I want to stop working, I stop. I did just that around 11:30. Couldn’t go 5 minutes without coughing. Supposed to clear up later in the week. Looks eerie and almost apocalyptic out there.

One of my favorite baits to throw in the dead of summer is a big old Culprit 10” ribbon tail. Z-Man Finesse WormZ get a lot of use as well on a drop shot or shaky head for me. Those two are my most used plastic worm.

We have an air quality alert here in upstate NY due to the Canadian wildfires. The last several days there has been a visible haze, but today it’s worse than ever. The air smells like a campfire and I can literally see smoke or haze blowing in the breeze. This is from just now: The advisory says strenuous outdoor activity should be avoided…so I’m going out to landscape and mow lawns lol…but the bills won’t pay themselves. I’m an asthmatic and I was coughing and wheezing just from loading the truck, so we’ll see how long I last. Albuterol has never let me down! How’s the air where y’all are? Any other asthmatics, and how has it been affecting you? And if you’re in the path of the actual fires, stay safe!

I think if a bass sees a frog underwater, all it will think is “food”. Frog lures aren't exactly realistic imitations of live frogs either. Although I don’t believe bass enjoy consuming real frogs, that won’t stop them from striking.

@ol'crickety I consider upstate NY a sportsperson’s paradise, with the Adirondacks, Catskills, Heldebergs, Great Lakes, finger lakes, lake Champlain, Mohawk, Hudson and St. Lawrence river valleys, and a lot of land designated as “forever wild”. I imagine the entire state of Maine as such.

I fish a wacky rig different than most I think. After I pick a target and fling the wacky rig, I let it sink, jig it a couple times, then reel in and make the next cast. I do not and will not fish a wacky rig back to the boat like a Texas rig or ned rig or most other soft plastic presentations. Cast, let it sink, pop once to twice, reel in, repeat.

For short days on the boat in warmer weather, Crocs get the nod. Plenty comfy and lightweight enough. If I know I’m gonna be on the boat all day, I‘ll wear Nike running sneakers. Yeah. I’m a coffee addict and I’d still probably prefer to drink nothing over a cup of Dunkin. Tastes like they fill up the cup with half coffee and half water. Dunkin coffee is one of those things you either love or hate. I’m definitely in the hate camp.

Put your hands up and wave like you’re trying to get their attention. They’ll divert instead of flying directly over you. Works like a charm.

The Canada geese around here drop poop like a carpet bombing run. But I’ve discovered that if a flock is heading towards me, if I put my hands up and wave they will actually change course. Don’t call me crazy until you try it, it really works!

@casts_by_fly looking good! Update on my project. We’re finally in the home stretch. Taken a little longer than anticipated but such is life. Just finished installing the last of the border. First delivery of pea gravel just got dropped off. 7 yards to start. Probably gonna need 12 or so. Gotta knock back the hedge row on the left about a foot, and take it down about 4 feet. That’ll give the garden beds a lot more sun. After the stone is installed, we’ll be picking out some furniture for it. Table, chairs etc. Bare patch of dirt on the right is where more clover and creeping thyme will be going. It started sprouting today.
