TN Record Paddlefish
I believe they’re related to sturgeon as well which are also dinosaurs. In some waters they have really strict protections. What a cool fish.

Do texas rig hooks go through the bait or are they inside the bait?
Usually depends on the hook. With an EWG hook, it will rig up straighter if you go through the plastic then bury the point back in, known as “Texposed”. If it’s a straight shank hook, it will be easier to simply bury the point in the plastic without poking it through the other side.

So I finally tested the IRod Genesis III Swimbait Jr., for $150 it is a great rod but not as moderate as I’d like, it doesn’t really load up on casts well. Any suggestions for a Swimbait rod that does?
The loading of the rod on the back cast may not even be obvious to the eye. The heavier power of the rod, the less you’ll see the loading. If you expect a heavy swimbait rod to load all the way through the blank on a back cast I think you’ll be disappointed. There is a reason swimbait rods are heavier powered, and to have them load all the way up on a back cast would make them lose a lot of that heavy power that is needed to throw such large baits and to drive large hooks home.

New kind of dog and I wanted to get the real flavor on one of them. I’m not a ketchup guy, but I forgot meat sauce at the store and I had to use something to cut the horseradishy flavor of the mustard a bit and ketchup is all I had. Raw onion because of course!

Love the idea of getting some wild trout on the fly, but I know me and after a couple little trout I’ll be jonesing for that micropterus. Thanks for the insight! I actually do remember reading about the smallmouth fishing in Pigeon River. Maybe I’ll have to venture outside the park to hit that up.

Will do. Gonna be fishing a lot as well. I’m only reading about trout, but there has to be a river somewhere in the smoky mountains that has smallmouth. I may be going with fly gear only though. I have a lot of practicing to do, I have exactly 2 fish on the fly in my whole life haha

Gotcha. That’s cool. I’ll be heading to the Smoky Mountain National Park next June for a solo road/backpacking trip.

A google search brought up what seems to be their website, although it’s poorly designed and unnavigable. I’ve used their STX jerkbaits before and really liked them. Seems to be a smaller company.

Good to see that Fried is back on the hill for Atlanta tonight- Bass fishing 2023 glossary
Flipping and roll casting are 2 different unrelated things in my fishing glossary. “Flipping for Bass. As stated above, flipping is the art of using the momentum of the bait and the swing of the rod, coupled with an arms length of line in your non-dominant hand to place a bait in close proximity to the area of interest.” I’ll add one. Lateral Line: an organ on a fish that can detect movement and vibrations in the water, not the black horizontal stripe of pigmentation on the side of a largemouth- "Epic" day on the Tennessee!
52 smallmouth with a 20” mixed in? Yeah I’d call that an epic day as well.- Hook set
Braided line and an extra fast action rod will help you stick fish better. 6lb mono is pretty much a bungie cord at long distances. The slower the action of the rod, the more energy is absorbed to the rod loading up rather than the line pulling the hook.- Adirondack/Capital Region Fishing Reports
@KSanford33 nice catch. That lake has surprisingly good fishing. They’re definitely biting good around here. - The Beer Is Brewing, The Trash Is Flying, and The Race For The Pennant Is On!
