  2. Baby Brush Hogs, Hula Grubs, Incredi-craws….T-rigged, C-rigged, and hula grubs make great smallmouth baits on a bare 1/2 football jig head.
  3. Was fishing on a rocky bank as a kid with my father. He was about 8-10 yards down the bank when he tells me to “come here”, for no apparent reason. He would often prank me (throw a bug at me or dead fish or something), so I thought he was gonna do something like that. I smiled and asked him why, and then he got serious and told me to just listen. So I walked over to him, and then he turned me around and told me to look right where I had been standing. There was a timber rattler sitting on a rock a few feet behind me coiled up. He didn’t tell me why at first because he didn’t want me to turn around and startle it. Good on ya pops! So yeah, watch for snakes! Even my fellow northerners, timber ratters are out there and they are venomous.
  4. Just a little homestead on a lake in the mountains. Somewhere I can grow my own food, live off the land, fish whenever I want.
  5. My truck has a big tank. It takes a while to fill up and sometimes I get impatient. Especially after a long day.
  6. @T-Billy wasting no time getting on the muskies.
  7. 15 years later, yes I still use XL. 8 and 10lb, but have used every size from 4-12. I don’t think there is a more user friendly line.
  8. Yep. There are only so many ways you can mold plastic. But every way will still catch fish.
  9. It’s an exciting lake to fish! I stayed there a couple summers during the big algae bloom but it didn’t seem to effect the fishing. Just turned the water the color of pea soup. And it keeps the recreational boaters besides fishermen to a minimum. I hope I can get back there soon.
  10. I definitely plan on throwing one when the ice is gone. Only started using them midway through last season but they seem like they would excel in early spring when the water is still cold.
  11. Don’t remember the tree, but that lake is something. About a dozen times I got to witness massive sturgeon skyrocket out of the water 25 yards from the boat. Hooked into a couple mystery fish that completely spooled spinning reels. Never got to seen them. My buddy hooked the biggest bullhead I’ve ever seen on a chug bug of all things.
  12. And from everything I’ve heard, drinking black coffee can actually lower your risk of death.
  13. Time to sow some seeds. Spring is almost here.
  14. About a decade ago I was fishing on Black Lake in northern NY. We came across a little hump on the depth finder. Nothing crazy, it just went from a 10' flat bottom to about 4-5' with some grass. So we started fishing, and the smallmouth must have been stacked gill to gill down there because we started catching them non stop. 12" up to 19". This tiny mid lake hump must have had hundreds and hundreds of bass on it. Any cast that didn't produce at least a bite was surprising. Each fish would have 2-3 followers. I was throwing a DT-6, but it didn't matter. Anything you dropped down they would demolish. One of the craziest days of fishing I've ever had.
  15. Sunday morning breakfast. Hash browns, eggs over easy and some wheat toast.
  16. A 6’6”-6’10” M casting for jerkbaits and topwaters. A 7’+ H casting for fishing in heavy cover A 6’8”-7’ ML spinning for finesse stuff like a wacky or Ned rig These are just a few places I would start if building an arsenal from scratch.
  17. Lizards are my number one C-rig bait. My favorite are Zooms. Regular and magnums. I also throw them weightless when pond fishing. They can clean up like that. I like the small Zoom lizards for this.
  18. I use a lot of colors that imitate perch, bluegills and pumpkinseeds. Mixes of blues, green, oranges and blacks. The color Green Tomato from Strike King is my favorite, but Siebert Outdoors makes a lot of colors that are great for imitating baitfish of all kinds. I’ll replace my Strike King spinnerbait skirts with Siebert skirts a lot.
  19. I use quite a bit of Lew’s products. Out of the ones you listed, the only one I have experience with is the Speed Spool LFS. For $50, that’s a steal. Even at the MSRP, it’s a great value. Doesn’t feel like a cheap reel at all. I’ve never been anything but happy with Lew’s. I plan on getting the Custom Lite sometime this year. From what I’ve heard and read, this real is a must-have.
  20. Year after year I’m surprised at how fast we go from frozen lakes to post spawn around here. That’s why I have such FOMO during the pre spawn period. I think my odds are best for a new PB, and great numbers. I’ve had more days where bass just recklessly slam everything you throw during the spring time than any other season. Once I see bluegill and pumpkinseed spawn colonies I know the bass are mostly in a post spawn state, and it seems like it happens earlier and earlier every year.
  21. Low 50s water, windy and overcast? I'd be throwing a spinnerbait all over the place. Given the water clarity and overcast sky I'd probably start with a silver and gold double willow.
  22. I use all stock hardware on them. Its one of the easiest baits to walk in my opinion.
