What's your favorite all around monofilament weight (for casting setups)?
If I had to pick one weight, it would be 12lb. I use straight monofilament on 2 casting setups. Trebled topwaters get 10lb test, and buzzbaits get 15lb.

Italian Food
Pesto, risotto, bolognese, I love it all. I usually opt for white dishes more than the red ones, but I don’t think there are many Italian dishes I don’t like (or any dishes for that matter lol). My absolute favorite is Carbonara, but too often when I get it it too closely resembles Alfredo. I worked as a fill in cook at an old school Italian restaurant for the last few years. The owners just retired a few months ago. My best friend was the head chef, and is ridiculously talented.

Easiest Non-Panfish Fish to Catch in Cold Water?
I was mistaken. I got a month ahead of myself. Walleye season is open until the 15th, as well as the esox season.

Easiest Non-Panfish Fish to Catch in Cold Water?
Edit* I was erroneous in my initial response! @KSanford33, Both esox and walleye season is open until March 15th. Both are active in cold water and abundant in the Mohawk. I forgot it’s only March 1st.

If you run Braid to leader for pitching….
Usually about 5’ when I first tie it. I’ll let it get down to 3’ or so before I change it out.

True Cost of Fishing Tackle
Of course I love a sale, but your statement describes me for the most part. When it’s time for a new rod or reel, its time regardless of whether or not there is a sale going on. There are also times when I grab something I didn’t know I wanted until it was on sale, but if I need something I usually don’t wait on sales. My budget is certainly not unlimited so I still have to stay within it. My money may go further waiting on sales, but for example if I need a new frog rod for July, I’m not gonna wait for Labor Day. @TNBankFishing, I’m curious where you got the MSRP vs True MSRP numbers? Manufacturer website or vendor website? Thanks.

Is rod/reel aesthetics super important to you?
I put function over form, but I certainly appreciate a slick looking set up. I do minor cosmetic upgrades on some of my gear.

Will the world record small mouth be broken?
If you asked me a year ago I probably would have said it was possible although unlikely. Now, I believe it’s only a matter of time.

Post a photo a day!
A week and a half ago I was talking about getting ready to go fishing. This week we’re getting hammered with snow

Your Starting Lineup
This is a double edged sword. If I only threw a spinnerbait when traditional thinking says it’s a good idea (windy, choppy, murky water), I’d catch a lot less fish. I catch as many fish with a spinnerbait in clear calm water as I do in choppy stained water. What the data says is often a dud in my experience, and possibly based on some anecdotal evidence that people ran with for so long it became “fishing law”. My point is if I only threw “what the data says to throw”, I’d catch a lot less fish.

New reels
The SV TW is a sweet reel. I can zing 3/16-1/4oz jerkbaits a mile with it. It has a shallow spool, so I would opt for a thin diameter mainline to be able to fit more on the spool and really get some bomb casts.

a more modern tackle box?
By storage for soft plastics do you mean storing them while you’re fishing, or storing them off the water? For on the water, I use a worm binder. It’s a 3 ring binder with ziplock bags that hold packages of soft plastics. For off the water, I store them in stackable plastic storage bins, in their original packaging. I always keep my soft plastics in the package they come in.

That should make for a happy anniversary!

Why do I struggle to find and catch fish?
This has been my experience. Gaining confidence on one body of water definitely translates into confidence on other fisheries, which in turn results in more fish, thus increasing your confidence even more. That’s why time on the water is so valuable to becoming a better angler. You can read and research all day and night, but if you aren’t putting enough time in on the water to put some context to the information you’re receiving, it won’t do you as much good.

Your Starting Lineup
What makes it worse is that we’ve had an extremely mild winter, both temperature and snow-wise, but are getting our most winterlike weather this week. Nasty ice storm last night, temps dropping to single digits, and getting whacked with huge snow storm Monday into Tuesday. Really struggling to contain my enthusiasm to get back out there, especially since my reels just arrived back from DVT. ?

Winter 2022-23
A few inches of snow and ice predicted for last night turned into 1 solid inch of crusty icy snow. Not fun with a shovel or a blower. And the next few days will be some of the coldest of the winter. Just when I was starting to gear up for an early ice out

Latest Catch Pics Thread
I’m so glad NYS opened up their bass season year round. Only caveat is from December to June it’s artificial lures and C&R only. Both things that don’t affect me at any point during the year.

I’m actually really into this. Dang. I did not need to see the this post. Thought my spring shopping list was complete but it appears not.
