I’ll never flip a jig without hearing “rate of fall baby, rate of fall!”
  2. I hear ya, Joe. I also started a new job with new schedule. It’s sapped my energy and I haven’t been out fishing as much as I need.
  3. Cal Raleigh is the first American League player to hit 60 home runs not wearing a Yankee uniform.
  4. We’re not supposed to throw spinnerbaits on calm days. I do it anyway and catch just as many as traditional spinnerbait conditions.
  5. I think every single rod I own has a slight curve if I look down it. Unless it’s egregious, it’s usually something I pay no mind to.
  6. I love when a big bass tail-walks across the surface. If it results in a thrown hook, I prefer them to not breach, but if they do it’s always exciting.
  7. When all else fails, just tie on a heavy 1oz willow-blade spinnerbait and find a drop off and just chuck and wind over and over up drop off.
  8. @TnRiver46 looks like coontail. Also milfoil can look similar out of the water. One of those I would say.
  9. New career, new schedule, new truck. There’s been some good and bad. And some neutral. It’s been one hell of an eventful year though.
  10. A few weeks ago I saw a bald eagle attempt to grab a Canada goose out of the air. Goose was flying high over the lake when the eagle swooped out of its nest and went for the goose’s neck with its talons. The goose evaded and the eagle didn’t make another attempt. A couple years ago I saw a snapping turtle so large that I’m convinced it was a non-native alligator snapper that somebody had a pet and released, and not the 12” common snapping turtles that I see all the time. This one was over 3.5’ from nose to tail, and the shell was the size of a d**n sea turtle. I noticed it floating a couple dozens yards away, and thinking it was driftwood I took my boat over to it. When I got to it and saw the size of the creature I couldn’t believe my eyes. I got out of there pretty quickly. Never saw it again despite fishing the lake many many times. I’ve seen sturgeon that had to be over 100lb breach and fly 6’ into the air. They look remarkably like sharks when they do that. I’m forgetting some stuff im sure.
  11. With my team out of it, I wouldn’t mind seeing Seattle get their first ring. Especially if they bounce the Astros in the process. Anybody but Philly, though.
  12. @rangerjockey I was being sarcastic because I’ve never actually seen him near water. Whenever his videos show up on my feed, he’s sitting in his car whining about something. Sorry OP, didn’t mean to derail anything.
  13. Since when does Randy Blaukat fish?!
  14. My cork game is far from on point. I like a little character in my cork.
  15. @gim You should try weed whacking it! Nothing like dog poop mist.
  16. I’ve caught bass up to 23.5” in NY. That fish weighed 6-3. I routinely catch bass up to 22”, or up to 5lbs. The larger bass I catch usually have huge heads and long bodies.
  17. I’ll tell the story of my domestic PB from my favorite lake up in the mountains. It was early fall of 2017. I launched my boat in the cold, foggy, mountain air at sunrise. The lake was empty, the only sounds heard were the steady “ploplop” of my trolling motor, the cry of a loon, and the gunshot from a distant hunter. Besides a couple pickerel, nothing was happening as I made my way through a few of my favorite spots. Eventually I came to a point that looks pretty textbook as far as bass habitat. A steep, >45° bank that dropps to 20’, Lily pads against the shore, and a couple floating docks in the vicinity. I picked up my spinning rod and flung the wacky rigged senko just on the edge of the lily pads and let it sink down the steep bank. It didn’t take long for my line to jump and start steadily streaming off my reel. I reeled up the slack and set the hook into something I immediately knew was large. The fish peeled drag at first and pretty quickly got itself wrapped up in the rope of one of the floating docks. In a moment that I don’t exactly remember how went down, I was able to free the line off the floating docks and gain control of the fish only for it to bulldog and bury into the pondweed under my boat. Applying steady pressure, eventually I was able to lift it free, and into the cradle of my waiting net. One look at the fish told me it was certainly my new domestic PB. It measured over 23”, and flashed 6lb 8oz on the scale before settling and locking in at 6lb 3oz. It had the frame of a fish that could easily go over 7lb. It was a bit on the lean side, but still healthy and heavy. With a belly full of perch or eggs, though, I can only imagine. After releasing the fish, I needed a couple minutes to collect myself. When I resumed fishing, I continued catching them on a jig in the shoreline timber. Was a good day of fishing. Wishing you well on your surgeries and recovery!
  18. I look at that as more of a suggestion about the diameter of the line, and they use monofilament as the example. I could be wrong but I don’t believe it would relate to the breaking strength of braid.
  19. Only jigs in my box are Siebert Outdoors. The Brush style head is my favorite.
  20. @TnRiver46 those longears are one of the prettiest fish that swims.
  21. Back in the day, stuff was designed so practically. I’m not from “back in the day” unless you include the 90s, but I’ve seen so many pictures and old advertisements of such practical features that things cars, appliances, and furniture came with. You don’t see it today. Stuff today is about how much redundant technology that nobody asked for can be crammed into a new product. I just bought a new truck, and all of the damned bells and whistles it came with and none of them really do much besides make noise and light up at you. I don’t need a single one of them. Thank god for the cup holders I guess. At this point it’s the only car feature from back in the day that is still put into new cars.
  22. Rage swimmer
  23. Siebert Outdoors. Carries more than just jigs.
  24. Traditional thinking in bass fishing says that overcast days should be better fishing than sunny days, but this runs counter to what I’ve experienced my whole life. In my thousands and thousands of hours I’ve spent fishing, I’ve never noticed a correlation between overcast or cloudy days and better fishing. I would agree with what’s in that book. Sunny days seem to be better fishing for me. And not only that, sunlight specifically can really turn the fish on and sunny spots I’ve found hold more fish than spots the sun isn’t hitting. This is even more true during colder months of the year. Another thing to consider is that sunny days often are a sign of stable weather, while cloudy days are often a sign of a front moving in or out. Stable weather usually is better for the fish. In my opinion, the cloudy day and better bite thing is one of those old pieces of traditional knowledge that can’t get proven false so it persists, which is a lot of traditional bass thinking. This is why I think so much of traditional bass knowledge runs counter to what I actually experience on the water. Tradition means nothing to me
