Sounds like the issue I had ... Seems to me that Abu Garcias are very hard to keep tame. Just dump it and get a Shimano.

To keep bottom contact with a higher ratio reel you have to just reel slower and compensate with a heavier head. This system works great. Tight lines

I think your fine man I threw my California swim jigs and the big river2sea spittin wa frogs last year on a medium heavy st. CROIX legend extreme. That 704 should handle it just fine.

What kinds of lures are you having problems with?

Lipless crankbaits are extremely effective in the grass remember that! I've found in my experience that a trap is much more effective in the grass. Retrieves can vary from chuck and wind to more of a yo yo deal.

Throw the black one during low light periods of the day such as early morning, night, evenings. I would throw the white/chart during the lighter light periods of the day. Hope this helps.

I use 80lb Sunline FX2 with my Tatula and I've had 0 issues with grooving or anything like that.
