  1. I don't care for martens mainly because he whines so much
  2. I only use the swimming fluke not the straight tail. I struggle like hell trying to hook a fish on these things though. 3/0 wide gap for a swimming fluke jr. 5/0 for the bigger but I've been using screw lock hook on them lately
  3. Denny brauer is my favorite him and hank Parker are the nicest two I've personally met. Talked to hank and his quite wife for quite awhile a few years ago at the classic about his son driving nascar. Denny is just the man he fishes the way I fish. On the flip side Roland martin was a ***** and I would have fought Boyd duckett at the boat ramp in demopolis one day
  4. it's in the 40's right now in central alabama with a high only in the mid 50's.so I'm bundled up in front of the fireplace waiting on winter to be over.
  5. I've been debating on having all of my reels one way or the other and I've got more curados than lews. I bit the bullet and and got 6 Powell rods to replace my old rods I was using a mix of shimano compre's, quantum kvd, st croix mojo and a bass pro flipping stick and I really enjoy all my rods to feel more or less the same when I pick them up. It gives the illusion of knowing what I'm doing too haha
  6. I'm retiring my quantum energy pt and I've got several curados and a lews speed spool. I can't make up my mind if I want a lews or another curado. I know some people don't like the curado g but I have had 0 problems out of them. Probably going with a curado because a couple of local stores have them for 99.99 on clearance but does anyone know how well the lews stand up over time? I know Shimano's are built to last but it's a toss up on which one I enjoy fishing with more.
  7. So about those jerk baits......
  8. I've always wanted one of those spinning rods where you tape the reel to the handle. Tennessee grip maybe?
  9. Keep it. We just tell each other what we want and the other goes and gets it. Like Christmas I wanted a new mountain feist to squirrel hunt with.she wanted a m&p shield 9mm. Both happy both great gifts. Valentines day she got a dozen roses and ammo I got a new curado. Her birthday she got a deer rifle My birthday I got another curado and a pair of L.L. Bean boots. You may start to notice a pattern when I buy her things she wants it's also something I can go play with..... Maybe she won't catch on
  10. My thinking is I like a soft rod for crankbaits just because it's easy to pull a hook or the fish to get leverage on a big crankbait if there's even the smallest amount of slack and throw it. But if I can keep the bend in a softer rod when he jumps the rod is still staying loaded up.
  11. He's the guy that was using straight braid and a stiff rod saying he can bury the hooks deeper? I don't buy it.... But just try it and see how it works
  12. Excalibur xr50's in citrus shad. As a matter of fact 98% of my crankbaits are that color
  13. In my experience any shimano from the citica on up will last you a looooong time before it needs any work. In my experience a shimano might not feel as smooth as other reels in the store but once you are actually fishing with it the reel is hard to beat.
  14. So you are saying that carrying a pistol is a bad thing, concealed or other wise?
  15. They wouldn't give them away with a 100 dollar reel purchase if that was the case
  16. Looks like a tampon to me
  17. Man I bought one of those 6 foot medium action mike iaconelli Abu Garcia spinning combo's about a month ago when I was out of town on sale for $25 and I love it for throwing a 1/16 ounce crappie jig
  18. I bought a lews speed spool and I got a few citicas for 67 at the classic it's a toss up the lews throws farther and is smooth as butter but the shimano's don't feel that smooth until you put line on them and start fishing them then they are awesome. Tough call on returning the lews and getting a couple curado's and going all shimano
  19. My dad and the guy have the micro guide carbonlites and about half the eyes have popped off of them on my dad's and my buddy had the insert pop out on about the third eye up. They now sit in the corner gathering dust. I'd go with the veritas my partner has a couple he flips and pitches with and likes them. I've got 6 of the Powell diesels and like them alot
  20. I opened the door for a couple of people and they looked at me like I had two heads. I will say south eastern Missouri wasn't bad.
  21. Alabama should be on your list. I live in tuscaloosa in the center part of the state. Nicest people you've ever met been to Missouri duck hunting everyone we ran across was a peckerhead once we got up that way. I'm 2 hours from any lake on the Tennessee river. Alabama, tombigbee, and coosa rivers are an hour away the warrior runs thru the middle of tuscaloosa. There's more variety In fishing than you can imagine within 30 miles of the university (center of town) you can catch 5+lb spotted bass in deep clear water. Drive thirty minutes to the east and you can catch big largemouth In shallow swampy backwater. I know of two 10's and a 15-1 one caught within an hour of tuscaloosa last year
  22. I've got a 7'2 shimano sellus Mh worm and jig rod I throw soft swim bait and big flukes on but they are nowhere close to 3 ounces
  23. Get the $99 lews speed spool from gander that comes with a free store brand rod and go fishing
